The Girl with Brains in Her Feet (1997)
This movie touched me
I just saw this movie for the second time today, I can't sit still to watch many movies, but this one I can. I have always missed the first five minutes, which I think are very crucial, given I have just seen the last 90 something minutes. This movie draws you in. The girl, Jack is so lovable and beautiful (don't worry I'm under 18) that you can't help but to keep watching and rooting for her. The movie takes place within a month. In this month Jack is training for a athletic competition, and she wants to "grow up" before it. She deals with many cold issues in this hard month, sex, drugs, racism, abuse and puberty. The movie is set in 1970s England. My cable company listed the movie as a comedy-drama. I don't see the comedy. Thats OK, because the music and lighting made up for it. It is so beautiful. The ending did leave mean wondering.. what? It was so quick, and it leaves you with a few questions. But after you see it it leaves you thinking.. wow. The title is on point, but a bit long. I would have probably gone with "The Cold Month" Also I can't tell who this film is aimed at.. My first guess would be 11-14 year old girls, yet all the cussing.. maybe adults..? Overall this is a great movie, everybody should see it.
Chasing Papi (2003)
Chasing Papi Review
I can't sit still to watch many movies. Yet, this one I could. Reason number one, three hot latina women. I love latina women. Reason number two.. ehh none. It is pretty entertaining. Each of the three women have very distinct personalities. One values beauty, the other education, and the other culture. Also each one is from a different city. The man, Tomas is dating three different women. Somehow all three women end up at his house, when he trys to explain his situation, he falls out under a tranquilizer pill he took before. Then the women see a 4th woman looking in the house, and think she is a 4th woman. She is really an FBI agent. The movie's good points are some animated cut scenes which you cant tell if they are geared for kids or adults, some Spanish words. I enjoyed that given I am almost fluent in Spanish. The end gets somewhat cartoonish... I won't spoil it. But if you like Spanish culture, or pretty latina women, you should not be bored with it, also it is kid friendly.
Real Women Have Curves (2002)
Review of Real Women Have Curves
This movie is about a young latina girl who just graduated high school. She got a full scholarship to a prestigious university in New York City, yet her parents want her to stay in Texas and help the family. This movie is about her summer after graduation, and all the growing up she does. She realizes her mind is worth just as much, if not more, than her body. She learns to stand up for her beliefs. I like the slices of latino culture throughout. America Ferara is a very pretty young woman, I like how she is so serious, and she can do romance, and anger. I love the factory scene where she lets her mom have it. But, I should not discuss that. Go see it.
