Venom (2018)
7/10
Confusing but funny
20 October 2018
As a lot of people have pointed out, this movie is not perfect. Yes, I would have preferred a more violent, arrogant and vicious Venom for older audience, instead of this softer version. I also didn't like the animation so much but the movie was surprisingly funny. Some of the dialogues were pretty clever and brought possibly different sides out of him. Tom Hardy made also very different, but decent performance in this movie.

All in all, I left the theatre quite confused, but I would like to see its sequel someday. Just give it a chance and maybe you will find Venom (2018) at least entertaining.

Pomposity became the destroyer of gods and kings
6 January 2015
Exodus: Gods and Kings has had very bad luck during the whole filming time and now when we see the final result we see its effects. Ridley Scott has had critics because of the lack of middle east actors/actresses in main roles. But still the movie isn't not so bad. It has very much potential but lost it before half way the story. The movie starts slow but when the first battle has been won the story really begin. And if the movie would have been only a history film I think it could have been very good film. The relationship between Moses and Ramses was interesting and if Scott had focused more on it than describing their use of power by using force this movie would have been completely different. Exodus: Gods and Kings are not Ridley Scott's masterpiece(for me it is always Bladerunner) but he can play well with the visuals. However they are one of the movie's weakness because this film has way too much special effectives on it. Too much war scenes, I would prefer this movie just be a drama film because Moses was not a warrior, he was a speaker and believer/prayer. And for me it almost looked like he had copied some of the visual effects/meanings from Aronofsky's Noah like when Moses was buried under mud in the scene of the burning bush etc. The acting in the movie was good. Christian Bale played his role pretty well (few scenes were bad still) but overall he made the film worth of watching. Actor who played Ramses was not bad, he started well but his character stayed only lazy, cruel and careless. But I must say that Sigourney Weaver could have been out of this movie because of her role. It was so small and she didn't talk much and was she in more scenes than 5 in this movie? Such pity, it really smelled more like advertising this film than acting. But I think the movie is not so bad than everybody says but it has serious flaws on it. But nowadays every time when you're making movie about religious story you will get bad reviews. But that I can't understand that if he starts the movie boldly for making us to believe that Moses didn't believe religious things why he couldn't keep that up in the end of the movie? He was criticizing but suddenly in the middle of the film he stopped it. WHY? Wasn't he brave enough? If he had been, I would have given more stars for him.

And Stallone goes again...
17 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure do this have any spoilers, but I put it on for safety. I have seen "The Expendables" and "The Expendables 2". I liked the first movie. The sequel was horrible. The third was nice surprise. All of you who will want to see a masterpiece of storytelling etc. - this movie is not for you. And those who want to have just fun- I recommend that you will see this movie. New actors like Wesley Snipe and Antonio Banderas AND Harrison Ford were really good. Mel Gibson in the main villain's role was awesome. I really enjoy when Mel acts. Unfortunately it happens very seldom nowadays. BUT! The plot is simple: the movie's theme was (surprise surprise) revenge to ex-expendable. To do that Barney(Sylvester Stallone) has to change his old crew to new and younger group. But we all know that it'll need more than that... the joking theme in this movie is aging and being replaced- they get few brilliant jokes from it. I liked this more than "The Expendables 2" because this has much better plot and well timed comic. Thanks to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipe and Antonio Banderas who will share the comments. I found him hilarious. Someone could find him a pain in the ass. I don't like the younger group but I understand why they are in this movie. Harrison Ford surprised me in this because at the beginning he seemed to be a little stressed but he found his style later. I think this movie didn't need Jet Li but more Arnold. It's little sad why Arnold has so little screen time but I suppose it's what Stallone wants. He is the boss and if someone hasn't noticed he has the most screen time. SO- if you liked the two movies before this, go see this one. THIS is good sequel and if you want to see the best together, you know what to do.

Smart action film. Very enjoyable
3 July 2014
Simple plot, great actors and well timed comic. Those are all you need for a summer blockbuster. Nowadays movie world suffers from inflation of robots (like Transformers) but Edge of tomorrow gives us hope that maybe good science/action films are not dying extinction. Tom Cruise is Cage who doesn't have any kind of military training but still he ends up to be in the front line of the final battle( which reminded me a little bit of Battle of Normandy). Of course the thing is not so easy and because something happened to Cage he will get to ability to start the same whole day new again and again and again... Only one who can help him to save the day is Rita, the hero of the Verdun strike. How many versions you could make one of your days if you could live one day again and again in your life? Hundreds, thousands, maybe millions. Edge of tomorrow shows us those options. Finally it's like game: you do it again and again until it will work out. You get frustrated, angry, hopeless, hopeful and finally empty. When you think it more it's a horrible ability. You never get rest, you can't end the cycle. Your only choice is try again and again. I liked very much of Tom Cruise's performance. It was funny to see how his character developed during the film and this is only my opinion but I think he has now much more charisma than when he was younger. He doesn't overact now also. I have never before seen Emily Blunt's acting but I read that this was her first action film and she was really good. She wasn't a cliché military woman: her performance was delicate and her and Cruise's chemistry was great. The were also surprisingly funny together. But why I only give this film 8/10? I really wanted to give 9, but it has little flaws. First of all Cage has to die several times. How he still doesn't have any mental problems is big question for me. I think anybody will be very traumatized if he sees himself and people who he cares for to die again and again. And the ending was little hasty and easy compared to planing how they could win... but it is great movie. You can watch it 2D or 3D. In both versions the visual design is great.

Traditional but new
27 April 2014
I loved Sam Raimi's Spiderman and Spiderman 2. Unfortunately that third movie was bad. Too much villains, too much everything. I was little nervous to see this 2010's Peter Parker. I hadn't seen the first one. So I went in to the movies and was pretty glad when I came out. The movie was pleasant, not perfect but worth of your money. Although the ambitious plot is this movie's weakness. First the visual styling were great. I really enjoy the cartoon like environment and Spiderman's climbing/flying in the sky. Andrew Garfield was surprisingly good in his role. I liked his arrogance and how he mocked his enemies. He brings also little energy for Peter character, more enthusiasm but in my opinion you can't compare Toby and Andrew. They both are great and unique. The enemies were alright but I think they had more potential than writers gave to them. Especially I liked a lot of Jaime Foxx's performance. You could empathize his character and the way he will be changed to super villain, I was positively surprised that they had tried to work out something accident styled situation which would be the reason how he will get his powers. What about Harry... I think Dane Dehaan made it alright. Compared to William Dafoe he didn't shine but I think the problem was the writers. Because there were so many enemies they didn't get a chance to change something more. But the acting was good and I loved that the director and the writers were surprisingly faithful to the original story. It was pleasant and even if I lost little of my enthusiasm in the middle of the movie I really enjoyed the end. It was exciting, and those who are very keen on to the cartoon details will be satisfied. If you have time, I recommend you go to see this movie.

Under the Dome (2013–2015)
5/10
Rubbish unfortunately
25 April 2014
When "under the Dome" adds' came to Finland I was excited. I had read the novel, the reading experience was good, so I really waited for this serial. How disappointed I became. If you like the story I highly recommend that you stay away from this. It has nothing to do with the actual book! The base story is almost completely different and the actors and actresses! They are worthless. But is it their fault or the writers'? I made me watch 2 episodes and it was enough. TV-crew has changed and inserted some crazy stuff in the story and all the characters are almost unidentified. That wasn't the story I had fallen for. The worst thing was that they had made Junior some kind of loser who only wants to cage his girlfriend. Where was the terror?! How Stephen King allowed and produced this remains a big question for me.

Haven (2010–2015)

Interesting village and folklore mixture
24 April 2014
I missed the first season so I started to watch this on the second season. I was little scared to see what kind of show this would be because we have seen how many Stephen Kings stories just didn't work out really well. For example I hate "the Under the Dome"- TV-series, it was just too much for me. Maybe it was just because I haven't read the book behind this story but I think now they did pretty good job. Haven is intriguing, funny and changeable. Its characters have become more deeper and more and more I watched it I get used to the main characters. But most of all I loved the idea to mix folklore, history and little village together. The combination is fascinating and it express very good what is the King's strongest point (in my opinion): describing little area's inhabitants thinking when they get into distressing situations. So I give nine to it (even if I think eight) but because this is those rare TV-series of King which have been made good and it has a wonderful soundtrack, I'm nice. Nine.

Noah (2014)
9/10
For a long time a magnificent performance by Russell Crowe
19 April 2014
I admit: when I first heard that there would be a movie about Noah I rolled my eyes. Even when I saw the trailer, I didn't get interested. I'm not a religious person, so the problem wasn't that the director would shame the biblical story. I was worried because I didn't believe that anyone could put life on Noah's character, that old good uncle kind of character. Luckily I went to the movies and I saw that all my doubts were wrong. Russell Crowe has done great work and I sure hope that he will get rewarded for this film. His Noah is HUMAN: imperfect and selfish, and the way Russell Crowe expresses his changing feelings... It was so good to see him acting so multiple feelings, not just stone faced warrior stuff. The story was better than I had expected so I don't have problems with that. Of course some scenes were too much( the have to be religious stuff) and I loved that the director was brave enough to test this ancient story's borders. But my stars come for Russell's acting. I enjoyed this film and it has been a while when I had to watch the movie so excited wondering what will happen next(even when I knew there would be a happy ending). So If you are a Russell Crowe fan and you're not too religious person, go see this movie.
