Spanglish (2004)
Please stop making movies like this!
Please stop making movies like this and sell it to the innocent people like a masterpiece! People are full of hamburgers, French fries and Coke already, stop feeding them with junk stories. Ple-ease! Save the world's mind from stupidity! There're million great stories around and Hollywood for some reason is spending millions on films like this. And then markets it to the rest of the world! Who ca-aares?!!! Stupid picture! No story, no acting, no emotions, everyone is dead and fake in this film! The actress (Spanish) is fake, Tea Leone looks horrible and miserable, she hates this part, Adam Sandler is flat as usual, he plays the same role all his life and gets millions for that. 2 stars out of 10 for cinematography and production design. The script, acting, directing are just childish.
Childhood (2001)
Amazing film-making.
I've seen this film at the Cannes film market. There were a ton of trivial films presented at the market with the same story in almost every other picture, but this independent film stood out. It's been shot, I'd say, as a classic, slowly, carefully, beautifully. Tara Fitzgerald is great in this film, powerful performance. The lead actor has no dialog whatsoever, however he delivers a powerful and convincing performance. Cinematography is breathtaking. I was mesmerized by this film and wasn't able to watch anymore films in that day. This little picture is a classic, unfortunately I couldn't find it in the video stores and too bad it didn't get a wide release in the US. I'll give it 9 out of 10. Thanks.
Sweet Dreams (2000)
Excellent film!
Excellent film! I've seen it at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. There were many more films that I've watched during my stay at the festival but the images of this film just stuck with me for a long time after the festival's end. Shot in black and white and developed probably in color cause the images came out somehow sepia-brown. No dialog whatsoever, very intense. It reminded me of the best European cinema before the digital age. Such an emotional labyrinth! I truly believe this film deserves an Oscar and I'm surprised that it hasn't been nominated. A true gem of film-making. The boy is excellent, cinematography is superb and the director did an amazing job. 10 out of 10!!!
