Clarkson's Farm (2021)
Refreshing!
In a word-refreshing! We'll be the first to say that not only are we fans of Jeremy Clarkson, but also fans of the original BBC series. Top gear, Grand Tour, etc. That being said, we loved "Clarkson's Farm." Not only is it a small, inside look at what British farmers deal with, but shows you Clarkson at his best. Complaint? One, the series wasn't long enough! LOL.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Almost A Masterpiece
No matter how many times you watch this movie, over the course of time(16 years at time of this review),"Batman Begins" still holds up today. The movie is well cast and the two Oscars won are well deserved. Director Christopher Nolan's realistic approach is really a breath of fresh air. Heath Ledger's performance of The Joker is stunning and what I always thought he would be in real life. Aaron Elkhart as "Two Face" is nearly as incredible. I've been a fan of his ever since this performance. If you happen to be one of the very FEW who haven't seen this movie, you're missing out.
ZZ Top: That Little Ol' Band from Texas (2019)
Nice Documentary But Falls Short
Like many, we've longed for a detailed documentary of ZZ Top. Now after 50 + years of existence, we finally have one. Banger Films(Metal Evolution, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, Iron Maiden: Flight 666, etc.)have a great track record for doing these kind of documentaries, so we were looking forward to seeing this film. We thoroughly enjoyed this film for the most part and learned a lot about the band's early days. It gives the audience a look at the band's history before all three members come together and what each member were doing prior to the birth of ZZ Top. The documentary also touches on their first album, production, the MTV days, etc. Where this falls short is it discusses nothing after their "Eliminator" album. Nor does it touch on their personal life, ie-family, hobbies. There is so much to be told after their Eliminator days, yet nothing was mentioned. It really starts out incredibly well but finished with a whimper. If you're a fan like we are, you'll enjoy it, but you won't know a whole lot more than what we already know for the most part. We expected more from director Sam Dunn, he has never let the audience down, until now.
#cats_the_mewvie (2020)
If You're a Cat Person
First of all, when you see other reviews, be prepared for the Internet "trolls" who will completely s@#t on this neat documentary. It discusses cats and their huge influence on social media. Great stories about memes, cat welfare, special needs and more. If you're a "cat person," we highly recommend it!
Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017)
Smurfs: The Lost Village-A REAL SMURF MOVIE
Finally, the Smurf movie we were expecting years ago. I'm sure the makers of the first two Smurf movies with live action had good intentions, but they simply ruined the idea. It simply didn't work. This movie had CGI completely all in, what we were hoping to see in the first place. The animation was brilliant, had great color and texture and a good story. It's just a "feel good" film and here's hoping for sequels to this version. If you loved the Smurfs from your childhood, this is your movie!
Walk. Ride. Rodeo. (2019)
Walk.Ride.Rodeo. Meh.
We were looking forward to this movie and we could really relate in a lot of ways. It's a sweet, simple movie and inspirational. BUT, it was too condensed with very little details, it just seemed to "skim through. The acting was *meh* and no one is getting an Oscar here. It's not real bad per say, but it just screened like yet another Hallmark movie(yawn). It's an OK movie when it could've been so much more.
Conan the Destroyer (1984)
Only If You REALLY Love Conan
First of all, whether John Millus was available or not, if he wasn't directing this film, it shouldn't have been made. It's obvious why in this film. I think John Millus truly understood the character and to do the sequal without him is ludicrous. Second, no disrespect to Tracy Walter, it just didn't work in this kind of film. The special effects were also off, mainly the monster in the end, but also the wizard. Just down right unbelievable. Arnold Schwarzenegger holds his own with his portrayal of Conan, at least, he's consistent. Love the story, not the script. Do not watch this movie unless you're a devoted Conan fan. Otherwise, they damn near ruin the film, hence, why you haven't seen a sequel over the years. We'd like to see the coveted and anxiously awaited,"King Conan" with Schwarzenegger, but now that John Millus has passed away, it's up in the air if anyone will put up the money for this particular film.
Speed Racer (2008)
Speed Racer: Right Idea, Wrong Time
Gotta say being a fan of the Japanese animation classic from 1967, I was definitely interested in this film. After watching, I thought the film was cast very well and appreciated the idea. Unfortunately for fans it was a bit of a letdown. It had a lot of CGI, which ultimately was what was needed but the graphics were too cartoonish. Whether or not that was the idea or not, it did not suit the film whatsoever. The technology was not up to par when the film came out. We would love to see it get a reboot with the current CGI available today(2019). The film did have its moments, especially with the cast in it, but Hollywood took some liberties it shouldn't have such as the car. On the outside it looked pretty good, but other details were disappointing. It's definitely worth a watch for diehards but this film falters due to the CGI of the time.
Hell or High Water (2016)
A Real Movie With Even More Real Actors
It's been some time since we've seen a movie like this. A simple story with good guys and bad guys with a good excuse. Nothing fancy here, you may even guess the end, but it won't disappoint. Jeff Bridges plays an ideal Texas Ranger that's at the end of their career. Gil Birmingham is the other Texas Ranger that's counting the days his partner(Jeff Bridges)retires. Chris Pine and Ben Foster are fabulous playing the brothers on a mission. Long and short, the film and the cast deliver.
Iron Fist: The Fury of Iron Fist (2018)
Is it me, or is Davos being a weinee?!
Davos is back among other issues. One thing is for sure, he's jealous of Rand(aka Ironfist)and being used as a pawn by the Meachums.
Blue Bloods (2010)
Blue Bloods(TV Series)
It's refreshing to see a tv show such as Blue Bloods, make it this long. Just finishing its 8th season, it's a show full of talented actors, actresses and writing. It's full of family values, faith and action. Every episode stands on its own. How the show OR the talent never has won an Emmy, is astonishing! I also love the fact that every episode ends with the family gathering for Sunday dinner, praying. How's that for modern television?
I Feel Pretty (2018)
I Feel Pretty Too!
Look, this movie won't win an Oscar, let's face it. If you're an Amy Schumer fan, chances are you either like it or love it! It's a cute movie with a simple message, with confidence, anything is possible. I'm usually not one to go out of my way to go to a movie theater to see this kind of a movie but glad I did this, it was funny and quite cute and the perfect vehicle for Amy Schumer. If you're not a fan, you might not get into it. However, surprise yourself and give it a try. Don't pay attention to a few of the low ratings, they're posted by folks who don't get it and love to post. Surprise yourself, try it.
The Lone Ranger (2013)
Adding Ego To Insult
I was thrilled when I read there was actually going to be a new, big-budget Lone Ranger film, especially since the last attempt at this franchise failed so badly. However, I was a little reluctant when I also read that Johnny Depp was to portray Tonto. Don't get me wrong, he's an exceptional actor BUT, he's also very eccentric.
Your first sign of trouble is when "Tonto" gets top billing over the lead, not good. If you are thinking about watching this movie-don't. I tried every which way to like this movie and just flat out couldn't. "Tonto" practically spends the entire movie making the "Lone Ranger" look like a complete idiot. There's nothing romantic about the movie or anything that made us love this classic hero and his faithful sidekick, which, by the way, this movie centers around. This was obviously ego-driven. Adding insult to injury, the movie lost millions.
There are some good moments, the story has potential, but every time there seemed to be a chance the movie would get better throughout, it took a turn for the worse. It insulted the legacy of this beloved character(Lone Ranger), it also insulted my intelligence.
The Grand Tour: The Holy Trinity (2016)
Grand Tour Pilot
I was thrilled that this came through for Clarkeson, Hammond and May! Their chemistry is undeniable as is the case here. I was glad it had the same vibe as "Top Gear," but a little different. I've read some reviews evidently complaining about that but guess what? I feel the real fans wouldn't want it any other way. I'm looking forward to the next episodes, but my only complaint is,"Where's The Stig??" Hopefully that will come back because it was also part of the charm for me as well as hysterical! I do miss where it's in England. I wish these gentlemen lots of success and happiness. They still got it in my opinion.
