A Merry Scottish Christmas (2023)
Scottish...really?
This was my second time watching a Hallmark movie. Like the first one I watched, my teeth ached at the end. Way too much sugar! It was definitely a light-hearted movie. No rain, clouds, snow, dirt of any kind. No dust in the castle, just bright clean Hollywood props, although some of it was actually filmed in Scotland. I did see the town of Inveraray. The mother would NOT be a Duchess. She would be Jo Morgan, Lady Glengrave. Her son, Brad, once he became the Duke, would be His Grace, Brad, Duke of Glengrave. His wife would be the Duchess. She would be addressed as Your Grace. His sister would be Lindsay, Lady Glengrave. I believe this is correct.
What on Earth?: America's Swamp Castle (2021)
Wrong Roosevelt
In the segment about the dust bowl of the 1930s, a photo of FDR was shown, but the commentary says Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the president during the 1930s. Theodore Roosevelt was the president from 1901 to 1909.
Silent Night: A Song for the World (2020)
What, no Enya?
I loved watching this program. Silent Night is my all time favorite Christmas song. I was disappointed that Enya wasn't part of the cast. Her version of the song is sung in Gaelic. It is by far the most beautiful version that I've ever heard.
John Carter (2012)
What was the director thinking?
I've read the book series many times and seen the movie atleast 6 times. How can anyone think they are making a movie from a novel and not even come close to it. Other than the names of the characters and the place names, nothing else is from any of the books. Why would Stanton change everything? The original story is perfect. All he had to do is follow the book and he would have made a beautiful, stunning movie. With today's special effects, he could have brought ERB's Barsoom to life and told the story in amazing detail.
On the positive side, he did do some things that warrant recognition. Although I would've loved to see Lynn Collins the way Dejah Thoris is portrayed in the novels. I can understand why all the Barsoomians are not nude. It was a great idea to add the tattoos instead of nudity. The photography is fantastic as are the costumes. The CGI is outstanding. The Tharks are truly brought to life.
All I can hope for is if there ever is a sequel, someone else will direct it and stick to the novel.
Jamestown (2017)
What a joke
Since I live across the James River from Jamestown, I figured I would watch this show. I am a history buff and love well made shows of historical subjects. The first time I watched the show I wondered if I was watching a music video. I kept waiting for the music to start. I thought what part of Jamestown did the producers research for the show. I watched about 5 minutes of it and switched channels. Now, a few months later I tuned into tonight's episode. Well it hasn't gotten much better. Since when did women of the early 1600s wear a low neck dress that showed cleavage? And the out spoken women...serving drinks in a bar. Not in early Jamestown.
There needs to be a disclaimer stating that "the following drama is made by someone who has no idea of the hardships the early settlers endured. The producers have done hardly any research of the real Jamestown and the people that lived there." The producers, writers and director should apologize to the residents of Jamestown and the descendants of the early settlers.
The Age of Innocence (1934)
Set in the 1870s?
I just watched The Age of Innocence and although it is a good movie, I wish it were made in color. The Ladies costumes were great and Irene Dunn looks amazing. I have one question, did men in the 1870s wear clothing that were styled much later? John Boles' fedora and suits stepped right out of the 1930s.
