Strings (2020)
Effective romantic drama with an artistic flair
Two writers from different worlds come together to inspire each other and possibly find more in this romantic drama. Written, directed, and starred by E.P. Macalma and Rebekah Hart Franklin, and it's easy to see that they both laid it on the line for this project.
Beautifully shot by Pascal Payant, with a constantly moving camera, you get swept away and led on a dream-like experience, as we are never too sure if we are experiencing what is real for Kat and E, or if it's just part of each of their fantasy.
Being from the minds of two writers, it's strongest when we are getting the voice overs from our leads. Where a movie with can over do it with flashbacks and voice over work, this actually excels with it as it taps into that dream feel.
While I was taken aback by a dizzying 360° shot scene midway, it was more than made up for with one towards the end. And coming in at just under 57 minutes, the story doesn't allow itself to drag on.
12 Kilometers (2016)
A prelude to greatness
Beautifully shot despite the dark environment, this short takes us to the literal depths of Russia as a team of drillers and scientists are about to tap into the sound of the planet. Without revealing all of his cards, Mike Pecci and team have us anteing up to see what else he has in store.
Raising the Stakes (2005)
And to think these boys aren't even out of high school yet...
Yes, these overachieving li'l (well maybe not so little in Zane's case) bastichs put together a rather amusing little flick.
No, it isn't Citizen Kane, but what it is is a rather amusing buddy vampire flick. Not too many of those now. A few of the jokes do fall a little flat, but the majority of them are right now.
Zane and Josh, the two lead actors, obviously have been friends for awhile, because they didn't have to act too hard to make that obvious in the film.
All in all, a rather amusing ride. And it helped me come up with two drinking games that will be sure to send you to the emergency room by movies end. Any time TJ Rogers says the word "F*ck" you take a shot or drink of beer. OR any time somebody says the word vampire. Note: This second option WILL result in alcohol poisoning for any involved.
