The Taking (2014)
Even Horror Movies Need Great Acting
What bothers me the most about mainstream horror movies is that the crew forget how important acting is. How important conveying the feelings and emotions are. If acting becomes over-reacting and unbelievable it will be useless.
I watched the taking of deborah logan as someone mentioned it along with The Exorcism of Emily Rose, I really liked that movie because first and foremost the acting was supreme.
Apart from poor acting, characters and the plot is flawed.
Why I say so?
A small girl in the hospital dealing with cancer I guess is not afraid of an old creepy woman and goes along with her without protestation?
A weak creepy woman bites a big hospital guard on his neck and escapes from the hospital. Come on, the guy could push her away with ease.
At least in the exorcist of Emily Rose one starts thinking and doing research on how it all happened to be. Was she really possessed or was she mentally ill?
In the taking 2014 you start to believe that you are dealing with a mental illness until the show turn into a cliched zombified case of possession that everything turns back to normal when you set the bones of the guy who's possessed the creepy old woman on fire.
I don't know.
If you want to see how a proper movie that deals with mental issues is made watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose. This movie is good only for 45 minutes.
In This Gray Place (2018)
Great Idea On A Loose Foundation
I want to like this movie but I cannot. The idea behind this movie is a good one but it's been made and played by an thoughtless and emotionless crew.
The movie starts good but then turns terribly awful when you realize that the screenplay has many inconsistencies inside it.
Hey, if you want to prove love, beauty and meaning inside a room, do not bring the police in. We all know the Police is not that dumb. We all know the Police acts better and faster than that. We all know the Police can check the phone conversations when they have to. So, please try to PROVE LOVE BEAUTY AND MEANING in a better CONTEXT. Terrible screenwriting.
The acting is not believable.
Watch this movie so that you learn how to make better movies. Do not make the same mistakes.
Devil's Tree: Rooted Evil (2018)
Don't Fall for the Rating and Fake Reviews
This movie is awful. The acting is artificial. There is no feeling in actors' voice. It seems like the actors are merely reading their lines so that the scenes finish sooner and they can receive their money or whatever and go home.
Not only the acting is terrible, the whole movie is a crap. In the first 10 minutes you'd already know and guess 80% of the story. Super crapy scenario that doesn't consider any realities of today's life. Yes, if you are writing a story that is happening in 2017 or 2018 you need to be more realistic about every detail you will use in your movies.
I wish IMDB had negative ratings as I would want to give -10 to this movie.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
Dark Comedy
I read some of the reviews and I wonder why people are so serious about it. This movie made me laugh more than it made me thrilled or scared. It also impressed me and made me think a lot about what I was seeing, hearing and witnessed in the end.
The acting is very good. The humor and satire in the movie is extraordinary. The cinematography is excellent. What more do you expect? Do you want to watch a action-filled cliche horror film with lots of CGI and a nonsensical ending? Or do you want to think about a movie and want to watch it again?
Director Yorgos Lanthimos makes different movies which I enjoy because they dwell on the human condition in a satirical and funny way.
Don't miss the comic dialogs and acting in this movie and don't be so serious about it.
M.F.A. (2017)
Good Acting, Poor Story
I liked the movie only for its soundtrack and great performance by Francesca Eastwood. As for the story, it's totally unfair, unjustified and biased.
Would I suggest this movie? Yes, because even if from a male perspective the story is unfair and hugely exaggerated, it still delves into the feminine mind of the director and has its own merits. The story contains good surprises too.
6 out of 10 because it could be a more realistic and balanced movie .
The Devil's Candy (2015)
Tense, Clever and Good
From the beginning, this movie starts to show itself as different. It starts with creepy murmurings of the Devil and a loud distorted guitar chord which has a frightening feeling to it.
All of a sudden, I got more serious regarding this movies- I need to know what will happen next. Well, most of the horror movies are jokes compared to The Devil's Candy.
Don't get fooled by the title and the cliché poster. Don't miss this good movies. The direction is clever. The acting is great, it makes you follow every second. It has a good and logical story to it.
I give 7 to this movie because still it has its own weaknesses. At times, you can say that the good acting has become overacting and caused excessive, unnecessary distress. Or you can say that the story portrays the Police as bunch of losers... But anyway!
Kudos to Shean Byrne.
Annabelle: Creation (2017)
How Low Can We Go?
"Why? Where are we going?
Where are the good screenwriters? Where are the good directors? Where are the good actors?
Where is meaning? Where is understanding? How low can we go?"
Throughout this crap movie I was asking myself such questions as above. Where is The Exorcist (1973)? That movie still gives me the creeps after knowing every inch of it and you know why? Because it has meaning. It has feeling. It has understanding. And above all, because it respects the audience as intelligent.
Annabelle Creation gives you thrills but only with cheap tricks and a ridiculous scenario that has so many holes in it. It disrespects your understanding and considers you a stupid person.
Where are the days of The Exorcist? Is there any hope?
Only 2 stars because of good acting by Talitha Eliana Bateman as Janice.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
It's a disgrace to the original Alien i & ii
What a terrible movie. The acting is pathetic. The story has nothing to offer.
Let me explain:
The crew are on their way to an important mission on a big spaceship. There's nothing wrong with that, but when terrible stuff begins to happen to them, they lose their posture and concentration and become like kids crying and shouting out of fear. Shouldn't these people be experts in their own fields, having gone through lots of practice and preparation for their mission- mentally and physically? The acting is very lame and superficial, you won't believe any part of it. If these people are on their galactic journey, should they behave like pussies in the face of calamities, making WRONG decisions that will cost them their lives.
The movie begins with this awkward dialog between a Robot and its creator. I read the whole movie from that stupid scene.
The only positive thing about this movie is the great acting by Michael Fassbender.
