Enterprise (2001)
Under-rated and my fav ST series
Just binge-watched STE on Amazon Prime after not having seen the episodes since their initial airing and color me impressed. The cast is uniformly excellent. Scott Bakula in particular is impressive as his Captain Archer transforms from wide-eyed explorer in Seasons 1 and 2 to hardened warrior in Season 3 during the Xindi story line. T'Pol ,a Vulcan with aroused emotions as the series progressed, is also interesting and she is sexy sexy sexy in her cool detached way. .And Dr. Phlox as the outsider looking in on this human exploration endeavor adds a lot with his observations and also his code of ethics. Upon my binge-watching review, I think STE is deserving of critical re-analysis and greater appreciation
Wanda (1970)
Amazing Film
TCM made its debut showing of Wanda tonight -- which also happens to be the day Barbara Loden passed away in 1980. Coincidence or not, this film just blew me away. No doubt the cinema verite feel -- and sense of grittiness -- is enhanced by use of the hand-held 16mm camera and having the print blown up to 35mm. That grainy enlargement process just adds to the feel of the dying rust belt goal region around Scranton circa 1970. The image of Wanda, dressed in white, walking through the barren landscape of mined out areas and the piles of black coal and slag around her, is surreal. It's a jarring image, an angel gliding amidst decay. Is she flotsam on the ebb tide, with no course or direction? The fact she participates in the hostage taking of the banker's family shows she has some resolve, when called upon to make a choice. I could watch this movie a dozen more times and find something new each time. The long-gone scenes of Woolworth's and other extinct businesses just adds to the melancholia for me. A must see, and re-see, and I wish Ms. Loden had left us with more films she directed.
Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw (1976)
30 years later, still a drive-in classic!
Lynda was an awesome physical specimen in her prime, as this movie captures. Good action flick, good nudity, good 1970s drive-in movie. Lynda is not back in emoting, certainly not as wooden as she was in the first Wonder Woman episodes. Marjoe Goertner is adequate, how he starred in Earthquake latter on is beyond me. And Lynda's sidekick girlfriend is CUTE. It's got the 1970s look from the film stock they used, which is cool. Its sad how gravity has taken a toll on Lynda's awesome physique. Pop in this DVD, watch her undress and it's 1976 all over again. And that's a good thing, as far as Lynda's bod is concerned.
