The Boys (2019)
Slick and disgusting
The Boys is a very well produced but ultimately sickening production. I stuck with it to the end but felt more betrayed than entertained when the final credits rolled. I can't believe I'm the only person who isn't impressed by F-bombs every other word. F*** is SO overused in this show. But, more than that I just don't think it's funny to see someone's sweetheart exploded and him left holding her amputated forearms. I don't think sexual molestation is good entertainment. I don't think it's funny to explode someone by packing C4 up their rear-end. I don't think a close up of unwanted forceful sexual penetration of any kind makes for good TV watching. Into the bargain the show portrays organized religion as a front for a cynical, manipulative, predatory gay man. Of course, if you don't care about any of that then enjoy the mayhem, bad behavior, slick production values, and cynicism.
SS-GB (2017)
You'll need to turn on the closed captions
Atmospheric and interesting but spoilt by the gravelly mumbling. Turn on the CC or you'll be constantly going back and replaying what the main character just mumbled. Shame really. It could have been really good.
Babylon Berlin (2017)
Wow
This is really well done. It absorbed me totally. The acting is great. It seems to be historically accurate in terms of the turmoil in Germany at that time. The costumes are perfect. The sets and outdoor scenes are totally convincing.
