A look at .... I'm not sure. A sociopath?
24 May 2022
Nice cinematography. The rest was slow, boring, irritating. A shame, really. The entire family seemed accepting of the behavior of their coming of age sociopath. Or was the kid "on the spectrum"? I don't know. A pretentious movie that I guess was supposed to have some deep meaning, some kind of statement on society today? I don't know. The great reviews struck me as the equivalent of wine snobs trying to elevate the description of Two-buck Chuck.

I couldn't finish watching
13 September 2020
The acting wasn't great, but the lead female was horrible. Maybe she was directed to be a ridiculous drama girl; in that case, she got the ridulous overacting part right. I thought this must be a first film for the high schoolers.

Are people really this stupid?
14 April 2019
Yes, this was more like 28 Days Later, (which I loved) but, good grief, some of the characters were so stupid I was yelling at the TV. I WANTED that woman from the first episode to get caught by a zombie. And, yeah, the road rage driving was ridiculous and then, when the survivors of the two vehicles from the chase sequence were in the same diner, the guy being chased never asked the other people why they were chasing them. I couldn't finish it, and I suggest you save your time.

Dead? Not dead? Undead?
2 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I wonder how many reviewers who gave this movie glowing reviews were women? As a woman, and a woman who likes most zombie, vamp, werewolf movies (and I don't include the Twilight series in that genre), I was offended by this movie. Continual rape and torture of a female, even if she's (kinda) dead, is not something I want to watch. Sure, there's all this lofty talk of "peer pressure, the effects of apathetic and absent parents, and the apathy and angst of teenagers"... as if this raises the level of the movie, but it's just another variety of torture porn, which I don't understand and don't enjoy. I realize sexual abuse and torture happen in real life, but I don't want to watch movies about it. The only movie I found more degrading and unsettling was Ketchum's "The Girl Next Door." I can read reports on humans degrading other humans; I just don't want to watch it.

Pulse (I) (2006)

Not so horrible for a Saturday afternoon
13 August 2006
We went to see PULSE yesterday afternoon (got to the theater too late for DESCENT). I have not seen the original KAIRO for comparison. So, it's not the worst movie I've ever seen, and not the best. Yes, it was slow to start and get to the point. But IMO it had a creepy, dark atmosphere (god, if I lived there I'd want to commit suicide in any case), the visuals weren't bad, and it had a few good scares. Unfortunately, it also depended on VOLUME to enhance the scare. If you're more of a gore fan, then it's probably not the movie for you. The movie may not be worth the price of a ticket, but I think it's worth a rental. Eh, I'm just your average moviegoer and don't watch movies to analyze them to death. I even liked The Grudge. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
