Saw IV (2007)
You'll have to see it twice...or more
24 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Saw 4 appears to pick up exactly where saw 3 left us. With the death of the famed Jigsaw killer. However, this film is not a sequel in the direct sense and involves itself more in following the events leading up to Jigsaws death, told through flashbacks, however a confusing and somewhat-shocking twist at the end of the film changes the significance of these flashbacks.

Although I can't really say what happens in this film. (As the entire SAW series is based on everything being a potential clue) I will say that the traps match, if not top those in the previous films, maybe not in ingenuity but in brutality and suffering for the test subject and that the film is an adequate addition to the SAW series. The downfall is that there are numerous storyline running at the same time and these story lines all have their own flashbacks and back stories which intertwine and get very confusing. This movie could have been longer and allowed for more explanation...but then it wouldn't be SAW, would it? Overall Saw 4 was a compelling, but confusing film and will have to be viewed many times to truly understand the many clues and story lines that interplay. All i have to say is BRING ON SAW FIVE!!

The best sequel ever
24 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
After Speed 2 i thought all Sandra BUllock sequels were destined to be a flop, but after viewing miss congeniality 2: armed and fabulous my views were totally changed. After 5 years Sandra bullock shows her acting prowess by easily fitting into the role of Gracie Hart. The opening scene is similar to the original with Gracie stuffing up yet another operation for the FBI. The remainder of the movie is completely original and hilariously funny. I have to admit that some of the humor is very forced, like when Gracie tells Fuller that she "might consider a tic-tac". But Sandra's acting and producing skills are proved in the dramatic and heart pumping finale where Sandra and Regina king are hilarious in drag singing a classic Tina turner song. Stan Fields and Cheryl Fraser are hilarious as the two hostages and there kidnappers make the funniest hostage video ever. Ima Flammenbaum is the best undercover character ever to appear on the silver screen. Overall this movie proved again that not all sequels are crap like Speed 2 and Legally Blonde 2. They can all be masterpieces like Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous

The Ring Two (2005)

Bring on The Ring 3
24 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
When i went into see this movie i was expecting a tacky, stalker thriller with b-grade actors running away from killer ghosts. But i was surprised at how eerie this movie was. It had a really good story line. A perfect follow on from the original. The return of the scariest character ever to be introduced to the cinema "Samara Morgan". This movie was not only a teen-horror flick but it had a heart. The quest of Samara trying to find a mother touched me in an eerie and haunting way. This movie had a lot of jump out of your seat movie, but it didn't have the air of mystery that the first movie prided itself on. I missed the green-wash look of the first film which made it kind of sterile. Whereas the first movie made me never want to be alone in a room with a television this film this film didn't really cause me to be afraid after i left the cinema. The first film was very real and played down on the supernatural elements whereas this film is playing it's "the dead never sleep" card out loud and proud. THis supernaturality made the movie eerier and scarier than the first. The scene where Aidan is found in the bathtub with the water on the roof was very haunting and i give snaps to the special effects team for this. Using a different actress for Samara definitely changed the feel of this movie and made the undead girl seem a lot more real. This was the scariest movie i have seen since the ring 1 and I can't wait for the ring 3.
