Good movie.
2 June 2021
I don't want to spoil the film so if you like horror thrillers just watch and enjoy it. I thought it was a very solid movie all around. Can't really say much more than that so ignore the negatives and just watch for yourself. Don't let others tell you that you won't like something, only you will know that.

A beautiful symphony of decay.
23 May 2021
This is the zombie film I've been waiting for since I started watching them as a kid in the 90's. Thank you Zack Snyder.

It's gorey, it's absurd, it's beautiful, and it's fun.

How did I not hear about this movie when it came out.?!
18 May 2021
Wow. I went into this movie expecting little and boy was I pleasantly surprised. I don't know how I never knew this movie existed until now but this is a great movie. It's so good compared to most of the trash that comes out. Why are so many other Blumhouse movies marketed and receive so much fanfare but I heard nothing about this movie?! Forget the Annabelle movies, why wasn't this marketed to all hell?! This is the best Blumhouse movie I've seen so far. It's not perfect and I see other reviewers saying it rehashes things that other movies have done but honestly every idea has pretty much been done to death and there are little to no truly original ideas left.

It's a great movie all around and it did a decent job staying interesting which is hard to do for me since I have been such a film buff my whole life and have seen every premise played out. I'd give it a lower than 10 score but I have nothing negative to say about it honestly. Don't go in expecting a masterpiece and just enjoy the film. It's hard to find decent movies like this made anymore.

Refreshing horror movie.
8 December 2020
For starters the bad reviews on here should not be taken seriously. Thi si an all around great movie that turned out really well for what seemed like was going to be a low budget horror film. It has solid cinematography, decent acting (The reviewer that complained the actress mostly spoke in one word responses has clearly never had a teenage daughter lol), and well done practical effects. The story albeit predictable at least for someone who has watched thousands of movies like I have, still was fresh and fun. I don't want to say much without spoiling the movie but it is a great suspenseful movie that keeps tension building nicely. If you appreciate horror thrillers that aren't big budget Hollywood movies with crappy CG effects than you will likely enjoy this film. I am so glad I watched it.

Do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

I'm glad I didn't trust the reviews. A solid modern sequel.
30 October 2020
So I am going to go out on a limb and say that clearly a lot of the negative reviews are I am sure from people who didn't like the movie but were definitely not the target audience.

I will do my best to avoid any spoilers.

Let me preface this review with the statement that I did enjoy the film and like it a great deal. Kudos to all those that were involved in the project on doing your best to capture the magick that made the first film great. :)

The movie was well made, well acted, and captured the spirit of the original while making it fresh with a modern perspective. Also it was nice to see Wiccans shown in a more realistic light as in that it's about positivity and not about Satan or hurting people. Witchcraft has nothing to do with the devil people, that is Christianity! There is no devil in our religion. The one thing I do not like is that it felt heavy handed with women good, men bad. A film representing Paganism of all things should be about balance and equality so the sexism is pretty misguided. I mean where in the $@&* was the male witch representation in this film? For trying to be modern and diverse they should have had a male witch somewhere in the film or at least referenced. I am sorry but being male and Pagan who grew up in the 90's when the original came out I understood that male witches were too tough a concept for people to grasp back then but it's 2020 so don't make Paganism into some sexist gender war. The movie felt like it's messaging was that if you were male you had to be LGBTQ to not be evil and that kind of sucks. It's bad enough that Witchcraft gets demonized and mocked by those who don't understand it but to have The Craft sequel in 2020 still give us no love well that is just a damn shame. Now that my rant is over, once again you guys did a great job and I look forward to more films from the crew involved. The actors in the film did an awesome job and I hope they all have bright futures ahead of them!

Blessed Be!

A boy and his dog survive a world of monsters!
24 October 2020
One of my now all time favorite films! It does a great job of keeping a consistent entertaining pace without dragging on drama or romance thankfully. It's action scenes are brief but fun while inspiring a sense of wonder with it's fun monsters. They crafted a world I want so desperately to learn more about! The creature design wasn't very fantastical and that is actually quite good as they are supposed to be mutated versions of Earth's flora and fauna. The movie is visually a treat to look at with some beautiful locales used for the movie that give you a true sense of exploration like any good adventure film should. I found the story to be quite heartwarming and not because of the romantic nature of the main story but the more important side story, a boy and his dog surviving the apocalypse. Now let's hope the Monster Hunter movie will be as good!

This is a film I hope gets more entries and I will be gladly buying it on Blu-Ray the first chance I get to support the studio.

Decent action crime film adapted from graphic novel.
8 June 2020
I am not entirely sure why there is such extreme negative criticism of this film. It is a well made film based on a graphic novel that is in a style of classic American crime and action films with a dystopia police state future. It reminds me of films like Shoot 'Em Up, Crank, Death Race, and Children of Men. It is great to see studios putting effort and budget into adapting non family friendly graphic novels.

People really need to realize that giving such harsh reviews unnecessarily to films adapted from graphic novels will only discourage studios from adapting more comic books/graphic novels into film.

Aside from a few slow moments in the film it is actually a decent crime action film that's well shot, well acted, and you can tell they took it seriously. Also Michael Pitt was great in this film and feel he was the stand out actor in his role.

I've read a lot of negative reviews based on police brutality and riots being in the film which is the dumbest excuse to give a film negative reviews. So you're telling me that the people who started making this film years ago were trying to make a film that was what, mocking our current state of the country?! Good movie, don't over think things and just enjoy a cheasy action movie.

Wow, what a waste of time and money.
2 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
For starters I watched this entire film and thankfully din't pay to watch it either as I wouldn't want to contribute to the people who thought they were making an art film. By a waste of money I mean that making this film wasted investors money. I see on here that some people are dismissed for their negative reviews because they just don't like the rape and incest in this movie but I could care less about that. I enjoy Handmaids Tale and damn near every episode has a rape scene but is still artistic while sending a very clear positive message.

This film on the other hand has a dumb message and was clearly made to satisfy some old dudes kink fantasies. Don't people realize that you can just watch porn for free on the internet?

This movie pretends like it is art because the movie is about rape and drugs are bad MMkay?! Seriously... The movie pretends like there is some unexplained apocalypse so these sibling hide in a cave where a gross old guy makes them have sex and do nasty stuff for him to stay there or something dumb like that. A bunch of weird crap happens and in the end you find out they are just heroine addicts who were strung out in an abandoned building while the real world still exists or something stupid like that. I honestly lost interst half way through out of boredom so it wasn't even succeeding at being shocking. My interest was at least held through Serbian Film because it was shocking and interesting in a way that held my attention while that movie also had a stupid message hid behind sexploitation it was at least made well.

So the message is drugs, rape, and murder are bad mmmkay and people do messed up things for drugs or something... Well duh. If you wanted to be a real artist you would just film a bunch of real junkies blowing a dude in an alley to score crack and then film real addicts strung out and homeless while someone overdoses. Film a real person overdosing until they actually die and put it into Cannes as a documentary and you will have made real art with a real message. Not this exploitation crap that wasted my time. It isn't fun to watch, it isn't a new message, nor is it an old message presented in a way that is shocking or filmed in a way that entertains.

Honestly I just wasted too much time rambling about a boring movie with some incest. If you like sexploitation than you will enjoy it. Otherwise it is just kind of boring. I will save you time and money...

RAPE, INCEST, MURDER, AND DRUGS ARE HAPPENING IN THE REAL WORLD AROUND YOU EVERY DAY!!!! OH NO!!!!

It delivers on the title.
7 February 2019
There were babes and there were blades so it delivers on its title. I found the babes to be babely and the blades to be bladey. The acting is what you'd for a low budget film called Babes with Blades but the fight scenes were fun and I liked that it actually shows you the action unlike big budget productions that always do tight shots with quick shaky cuts so you can't tell the actors aren't actually doing any choreography.

It makes me wish stunt women like Zoe Bell or even Cecily Fay would be the new Captain Marvel or leading female superhero in the next big budget Marvel schlockfests so that at least the action scenes wouldn't have to be pure CGI and stunt performers, Anyway, if you're looking for a movie to have a few drinks to with your geeky friends than this movie will serve you with some silly fun and cool fight scenes while people cosplay.

It Never Comes at Night
30 December 2018
This is the best example of a trailer being better than the film itself. Every "tense" moment in the film is in the trailers and it all escalates to absolutely nothing. They say there is an apocalypse, but you never see it. They say there are monsters, but you never see them. It Comes at Night is a weak family drama that tries to pretend to be a post apocalypse horror film but just isn't.

The acting, directing, dialogue, cinematography, score, etc is all well done and they clearly wanted to make a good movie which on a technical level they achieved. Sadly, if only they had a better screenwriter it could have been a great film. I really wanted to like this movie and I enjoyed it all the way up to the credits until I realized that there was no pay off or climax to the film. The best way to sum up this film is pointless.

The story is nothing original but it hits every note with perfect pitch.
17 November 2018
For those that don't want to read a long review just know that this film does everything right and the headline says it all. It's a very enjoyable film with great writing, and performances that tells a good story about a serial killer. Nothing new but it was done flawlessly. Don't expect to be amazed but you I'd be shocked to find someone who would regret seeing this film.

It is very rare that I don't find flaws in a film and this is one I couldn't come up with any. While this film doesn't break new ground in cinema, it is a perfect film on a technical level. The acting was perfect even down to the child actors which is so rare for me to not be completely annoyed by a child actors performance.

Every actor made their characters believable and there wasn't any scene chewing. This was a methodical suspense mystery film and not a fast paced thriller, but it never becomes dull. The dialogue was all realistic with no stereotypical portrayals, and Madisen Beaty "Kassi" was one of the best female characters I have seen in a long time. She is a breath of fresh air to me.

I appreciated that the film leaves certain things left to speculate on but ties up every major plot point nicely so not to feel like anything is unanswered. Also my girlfriend and I both were happy to see a film about a killer that targets women not do it distastefully or get rapey for shock value. So for those who want to know, there shouldn't really be any trigger scenes like in a lot of movies that touch on these subjects.

The story is nothing original but it hits every note with perfect pitch.

*********Possible Spoiler below here**********

I really felt like this was a fictionalized telling of BTK and if so, they did a fantastic job portraying a serial killer that not many films really attempt.

Not since Non-Stop have we seen Liam Neeson kick @$$ on public transportation!
1 April 2018
Fun popcorn flick with Liam Neeson giving it his all as usual. Here's hoping we can see Liam Neeson be the right guy in the wrong place at the wrong time on a boat to complete the Liam Neeson transportation trifecta. LIAM NEESON WINS AT TRAVELING!

A brutal tale of self sacrifice.
24 November 2017
I am a long time fan of Vince Vaughn since the first time I saw Swingers so seeing this mysterious new film just appear starring him I decided to take a look. At first glance it seemed like a strange movie for the comically odd fast talking Vince Vaughn to star in but boy did this movie cement my belief that he is a talented actor.

Vince's performance was solid and believable in a way few actors achieve. He really makes the character feel real in a way that you sympathies for his struggle.

From the very beginning this movie establishes the brutal realism of it's action scenes when Vince wrecks a car with his bare hands "Which was real BTW" out of pure rage and frustration. The fight scenes in this film are some of the best I have ever witnessed on screen and accomplish a realism and brutality that other movies either can't or won't achieve. The choreography and cinematography along with the special effects were in harmony to bring these fight scenes together and prove to huge budget Hollywood action films that you don't need shaky cam and bad lighting to hide untalented directing when you can just make them good!

I think the two words I used the most to describe this film definitely do it the most justice. It's brutal and real.
