The Nun (2018)
I'm probably in the minority but I liked it.
Whatever people say, I enjoyed and am giving it 8 stars. Acting was okay but direction and the general feel of the movie is what I go to see in the movies and boy did I get some.
Right from the first sequence, I knew, much to my surprise, that it wasn't just another shameless cash grab. Granted, the story may feel weak and yes, there were more jump scare than what I would have liked but they were overshadowed by the brilliant direction and editing.
Score was creepy, cinematography was excellent and the way they have used the 'Chekov's gun' device just tingles my movie senses. Each and every element in the script was supervised and brought back for maximum effect.
8/10, would watch again with my friends.
Drishyam (2015)
Very refreshing for me
Woah, what can I say, this was such a breath of fresh air in a world of bollywood filled with typical masala movies that do good on box office due to their over the top item songs. :P Drishyam is a chilling thriller with a very intelligent plot and well. thrills. I liked the second half more, because that is where is whole bulk of the story starts to open.
Acting of Ajay Devgun is so good, that I think this is his best to date. Supporting actors could have done a little bit better, but I'm not complaining coz the story makes it up for them.
At the end of the day, it was worth it. Enjoy with your family. Because rarely comes a Bollywood movie that can be enjoyed with family. Yes "enjoy" is the key word here.
So, 9/10 for me, for a really interesting and refreshing flick.
Peace.
Alone (2015)
A horror of murdered logic
When I went to watch the movie I had a fair amount of expectations. But what really killed my day was the pure insult of my intelligence (and my friends' too).
Story started a bit promising, as Kabir and Sanjana are shown having a life full of joy, but things take a "dramatic" turn when Sanjana's mother falls sick prompting the pair to move to her old house in Kerala where the memories of her dreaded past starts to haunt her. When she makes Kabir aware of it, he says "C'mon Sanjana, we are educated people, don't talk like illiterates", yet same Kabir readily brings exorcist in the house, when things go dark. what!!
And that last dramatic twist really killed a major portion of my brain cells when it is revealed that Sanjana was actually Anjana the whole time! I mean then why the heck actual Sanjana would become that terrible looking ghost and enter actual Anjana's body to get Kabir, and why will she go from that terrible ghost to that cute angel that saves Kabir from the actual Anjana? Mind Blown!!
So basically both sisters were jealous of each other, and no matter who Kabir actually loved initially, all the chaos would have eventually followed them all. END OF STORY, GO HOME AND SLEEP KIDS
Tamanchey: Pyar Mein Dil Pe Maar De Goli (2014)
Surprisingly pleasant
I don't watch much Bollywood movies, knowing that most of them are rip-offs or either 'masala movies'. But this one is difficult to put in any category, coz it has this modern feel somehow. Still the acting could have been better (and story too). But overall, I won't say it failed exactly. The love connection between the two lead characters is (likeably) strange. Villain was a typical one. Always the scary but always dumb. One thing I liked specifically was the end. You don't see that in much of the Bollywood films. Overall I thought it was a good enough movie for me. In the end, it's only my opinion. Some people like it, some don't. It's the way of entertainment, you can't satisfy all. 7/10
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)
Really good 'Freezing' terror
When I went to watch this movie, I didn't really had much expectations about this. The first half of this movie may seem boring to some. But after that there's a hell of a ride. I was just awestruck about the making of this movie, everything looked so real. It's hard to imagine how it is directed. This movie doesn't target it's audience to jump out of their seats often, but to make them just freeze like ice due to sheer terror. I would have given it a perfect 10 rating if this movie's characters have spoken just a bit slower. But like all the PA movies, this also have an ending that makes you say, "Oh God". After this movie, I surely am going to watch the next sequel. I hope they are even better.
