Are you serious
31 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The action sequences are over the top absurd which gives the movie a cartoonish effect. There is too much CGI that I suppose was required if you're going to blow up a damn and detonate a nuclear device in Rome. The acting is wooden which is to be expected from Diesel, but not from Theron and others. Jason Momoa chews enough scenery to rupture a colon, vomits it back up and eats it again. Same for John Cena, although that's kind of his MO. The best character is Statham's who is on screen for maybe 5 minutes. And The Rock - who gets about 15 seconds. That ought to tell you something. Now I feel sucked in to watch the two.

Disappointing
25 July 2022
It's disappointing. Slow. Often dull. Little to no tension. Certainly no scares. And except for Palmer the actors phoned it in. It's as if critics and the media feel they have to heap praise on Peele for some reason.

One bad performance ...
17 July 2022
If Moses Ingram's acting wasn't do distractingly bad it would be a decent entry. But it's awful to the point of ruining scenes, making them unwatchable.

A fine tv movie

Warning: Spoilers
It's a takeoff on a tired theme of the endangered woman no one believes with a couple of plot holes that you have to overlook to avoid giving yourself a dope slap. It would have made a decent Saturday night at home viewing with a pizza and beer.

Meh

Warning: Spoilers
Maybe the most overhyped mediocre should have been a TV movie I can think of. As a prequel to the series I suppose it serves a purpose and you get to guess who's a younger version of whom. But even there it doesn't add much since the almost entire focus is on a character I don't even recall in any way from the series. Oddly enough, two of the more sympathetic characters is a cast of lowlifes (the abused spouses excepted) is Tony's mother and a character in jail for murder.

The perfect movie for people who want to be surprised it's over, and like to walk out asking "What did I just waste my time and money on?

It's touching and sad and funny and fun

You know who doesn't like this? Jaded critics who think an entertaining movie is mediocre because of things like pacing, or a minor plot hole and assume that such things ruin a good time. Go see it. Bring tissues.

Entertaining with holes big enough for an aircraft carrier
7 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's fun. It's violent but not gratuitously so. It moves briskly. Statham does what he does very well. It has some fun twists. But my god, the plot holes. What is Andy Garcia doing? How'd he find the guy? A Prius?? Two ATV's? How long was he going to do that? His office? Giving away money to murder witnesses who can send him away? Still a fun couple of hours.

Unless you are completely without standards, you will be angry with yourself for watching this and wasting about six hours of your life when the asinine ending wraps up.

I think high ratings for this are more attributable to it being a "cool" show to watch that hits all of the PC boxes, and not related to the merits of the show.

Gets worse as it goes

Warning: Spoilers
The first season was a slog to get through. Confusing, implausible and gratuitously unpleasant far to often. She never eats. Never sleeps. Is in incredible health and shape after six years of torture. And a resolution the smacks of the writers forgetting to plan an end and then ran out of time. But the second season, unbearable. Gave up in the middle of ep. 4.

Monumental.
29 July 2019
It's a monumental effort at checking every conceiveable PC and diversity box and gratuitous foul language close to The Sopranos. Other than that, phooey. Stupid, poorly acted with one or two exceptions, insipid plot with obnoxious characters, zero tension. Though it was supposed to get better with or after episode 4, but not so. But like s slow motion train wreck, you just can't turn away. Makes me ashamed.

No one can watch this and say it isn't thoroughly diverse. That's it only good quality, if you care about that.

It's seriously funny
15 July 2019
Negative reviews seem to be some odd disappointment that it's not the greatest comedy ever made. It's downright laugh out funny at times and a lot of fun the rest of the time. Well worth the hour and a half and you'll leave actually liking the main characters and wanting to have a beer with them.

Comically bad so it's entertaining.

It's worth watching if you aren't expecting much. The highlight for me is the scene where they are on the deck with the ship is caught in a storm and being tossed around like a leaf in a hurricane, but inside everything is smooth as glass.

As good as Holmes and Watson

Absolute piece of dren. I borrowed that term from as old favorite, Farscape. It's not a compliment. The one funny scene was in the commercials and at the beginning. For the next eight hours - what it felt like - until I walked out a third through it, it was like trading to be tortured. Watch a tree grow. It's funnier, and time will move faster.

It's Entertainment

Why do you go to movies? To be entertained, maybe revel in some emotionalism? If not action (This isn't an action flick.). Or to have your political beliefs and biases stroked so that you can feel superior? Or maybe have your negative feelings about race relations or homophobia offended by the lack of tjem here, unless you are that special guy with no training who wouldn't cringe at having to insert a catheter in a stranger? As they say, you'll laugh, you'll cry, or maybe get a little misty, and you will get your money's worth. And FYI, Hart's performance IMHO is near Oscar worthy.

Black Swan (2010)

The movie feels as if it was intended to be hour longer than it is and that multiple scenes were removed to get to the desired length. There are to many loose ends, scenes that make one wonder why they are in the film, and, ultimately, what was going on. There are some cheap shocks that lead to nothing and not much else. I have the sense that people are praising this movie because of the director's reputation and a fear of being uncool if they do not like it. Aaide from that, I must say that Natalie Portman needs to eat something and work on a facial emotion other than grave concern. Vincent Cassell does his usual fine work as a sleaze, and Mila Kunis is all grown up and seductive. Barbara Hershey is excellent as a mother who is either maniacally overbearing or genuinely concerned about a daughter with serious mental issues. The excellent work of all three of these performers is not enough to save this movie or forge a coherent plot.

Eh

If you likes Hercules and Xena Warrior Princess you'll like this series. But if you liked the books for the sense of menace and desperation that followed Richard, Kahlen and Zed, pass on this. It's like watching a comic version of Moby Dick. Of course, the books were huge, the story very complicated with a lot of threads and a ton of characters. The whole story would have made a good series of movies a la Lord of the Rings. Right now the series seems childish and not up to the books. The other problem, which will happen eventually, is that the show will never last long enough to get to the end as Goodkind wrote it. We can hope that there may still be a movie come out of this.
