Leviathan (2012)
One of the most beautiful and amazing works of film I have ever seen!
If you want to see a masterpiece of visual and sound like no other, see the documentary film Leviathan. It is one of my favorite films (now) and like nothing I have ever seen, a true experience of nature and life in both the cruelest and most beautiful sense.
The director is able to convey amazing emotion and feeling though just the use of light and shape, let alone the whole piece taking the audience though an experience of life and nature. It's contrasting imagery of experimental visuals based on shape and color compared to ones of stark, bestial nature.
I barely have any words to try and explain how masterful this film is. Please do not avoid it because some of the poor reviews here, watch the film with an open mind and you will experience something that you never have before.
Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
Outstanding performances, tone, cinematography, and an all around fantastic movie!
9/10 Dallas Buyers Club by Jean-Marc Vallée was one fantastic movie, and a very good contender for the Oscars this year. The movie itself was fairly straight forward, but it brought it's all in terms of acting, cinematography and writing. A very "enjoyable" movie with a great message, great heart and fantastic execution; a must see in my book.
Jean-Marc Vallée brought us a fantastic movie with 'Dallas'. I had never seen any of his work before, and I am excited to see more from him, hopefully soon. His finished product is an incredible, heartbreaking, emotional and beautiful piece of film. Something I am most of all impressed by is its very low budget of under six million dollars. It is common for movies in recent years to have bloated budgets ten times the size of this one, in the 50-60 million range, and not pack even one-tenth the punch as this movie did.
The performances in this movie are all outstanding and noteworthy, and the chemistry between the actors is fantastic. McConaughey, Leto and Garner bring the characters to life and make them feel real opposed to many "real life" movies where the characters end of feeling plastic.
I would definitely see this movie again. Dallas Buyers Club will be a hard one to forget for it's outstanding performances, emotion, tone great cinematography and superb writing.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
A very, very good film!
9/10 - The Wolf of Wall Street, Martin Scorsese's newest feature film starring Leonardo DiCaprio was phenomenal. Superb cast, direction and writing all supported this movie. With a runtime of 3 hours, I went in expecting this dark comedy to feel long, but on the contrary I left wanting to see the original, longer cut . It engaged me from the first moment to the last. The time flew by and it's length fit the movie perfectly. The movie in whole perfectly encapsulated this 1 part pseudo-cautionary, 2 part not-so- humble brag tale. Every line and every frame dripped with the right amounts of everything to tell the story fully. By the end we really feel like we know Jordan Belfort (Dicaprio). Without a doubt I can say 'Wolf' is one of, if not, the best movies I have seen recently, and comes highly recommended.
