Zidane, un portrait du 21e siècle (2006)
A fitting tribute to the genius of Zizou
I can understand why some people would find this film rubbish, but it really is a fantastic piece of cinema if you just give it a chance.
If what you were expecting was just a montage of Zidane's finest moment this is not what you are looking for. This show's Zidane warts and all - the genius, the aggression, the skill - everything that made him the finest player of our generation.
The title of the film is so apt - it really is a portrait of football's finest "artist" in recent times. It is a little self indulgent, but the cinematography is fantastic and the soundtrack (music and sound) is incredible.
If you have any appreciation for football, Zidane, or even just artistic cinema I'd thoroughly recommend this movie.
Batman Begins (2005)
Probably The Best Comic Book Movie EVER!!!
Spiderman was good, Spiderman 2 was great, but in my opinion, this is without doubt the best comic book movie I've ever seen. And I know most people won't agree, but I personally enjoyed this a little more than Sin City although that was ace too.
I was a bit sceptical too, cos I didn't really like Memento (directed by Nolan) although its premise was very good. And Bale sometimes seems a bit...I don't know...just the way he does that macho voice all the time in every part.
But it all WORKED in this movie! And how!! The story was gripping, the action was dark and intense and the effects were brilliant. I really loved the way the whole concept of Batman was developed from his symbolism as Wayne's fear to the way his costume came together (the cape and the suit etc.) Bale was ace as Bruce Wayne and every better as Batman, but I think this is because he really treated him as a disturbed character. I think I heard Bale say in an interview "Batman is not Bruce Wayne in a costume. He's Bruce Wayne as a demon." The supporting cast were brilliant (well, actually I didn't like Holmes buy hey!) - Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freedman are legends! Hopefully it's the first of a few and maybe, just maybe, one day the nightmares of Batman and Robin will just be a ghost story you tell grand children!! Excellent movie - 10/10
