The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Read This Review Now, And Again After The You Watched The Movie
As a HUGE fan of the Matrix. This is the worst and weirdest disappointment. I was open to something new and fresh. But.. This wasn't it. 1. It felt spoofed. Like the movies before this were all a joke or game. 2. Zombie movie but rated pg. 3. Who's the "one" again? This movie was bad. I hope this was supposed to lead up to something better but if they never make another, I won't complain.
Pig (2021)
It's Art
From Nicholas Cages acting, to the script, back down to the cinematography, and scoring.. It's subtle and obvious art. The director did a phenomenal job displaying each characters mannerisms. No one is over played. This is the rolls Nicholas Cage was made for. His side kick throughout the movie also carried his own. I can honestly say, I love this movie. It's not an action packed movie so don't think John Wick. Think realism, this is feeling and emotions. Art.
The Ice Road (2021)
I'm pretty critical.. This isn't a bad movie
The reviews seem loaded. Like people are knocking the movie without really just giving it a chance. It's not a Oscar worthy movie if that's really the bar these days lol. But, it's a good late night flick. Just watch it and don't be so stuck on finding faults. It's enjoyable. Solid performances all around.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Better Than Others Are Saying
It's a good movie. Storyline is straight forward. Some unnecessary character appearances but they're there to to the pace. Anyone saying this movie is predictable or the script is poor, is expecting an Academy Award Winning movie. It's not always about the movie experience being perfect. It's a great "dim the lights and chill" movie. Good seeing some actors back on the screen. I'm harsh with movies when they over promote, this isn't that. It's good for a date or family flick with older kids.
Blood Brother (2018)
EASILYYYYY, one of the WORST movies I have ever seen in my life!!!!
How does an actor, director, cast, film company, preview a movie so garbage, and still release it? Like how? It's supposed to be a touching revenge movie between two street brothers.. I think your supposed to feel bad or kinda like the bad guy but how? His whole character is a lame cry baby. Sonny the main character, is just soft and dumb as rocks. I sincerely hate this whole movie. I hate who ever thought this was a good enough movie for people to watch! Burn this. Pretend it never existed. If I could go back in time and make the choice not to watch this for free on prime, I would. Which one of y'all is going home with TRIGGAAA!!! The movie... Take the movie, Trey.
The Marksman (2021)
Did Anyone Else Notice The Taken Reference??
So first off, the movie was bland. Like food that smells good, but ends up tasting bad. I noticed Sarah, the government official and daughter of Jims deceased wife. She uses the Taken line in reverse to tell Jim "they will find you, they will kill you" I thought it was funny seeing as how Liam seems to have fallen off since that franchise and I say that as a purest and fan of his.
Queen & Slim (2019)
Poetic Justice But Remastered And Perfected
I don't normally rush to the movies to see something on its opening night, normally I wait until Friday haha. But, this movie was calling me ever since I first saw the previews for it. I honestly didn't have the highest expectations for it either. I am a black male here in America. I have been pulled over by police before and felt that many of the interactions were handled unprofessionally and in a uncivilized manner. I do know that often movies told through this lens don't do US, black people, any justice. This movie sets its self apart though.
I won't go into a movie play by play. Someone else will I'm sure. I will say that this movies has substance, character, identity. It's thought provoking and creates dialogue as your watching it. Your literally speaking out loud on how you feel as you sit in the theater. It's that compelling when it comes to getting your attention.
There's no action packed effects or moments that leave you scratching your head about the directors approach. The creator of this is the same person from the tv series. The Chi on showtime. It's like she listens to her people and projects it back into her work. You laugh with the couple Queen and Slim, your angry with them, cry with them, and most importantly, live with them. This movie is what black love should look like. If you could imagine two slaves running from a plantation back in the day. All they have is one another. Surrounded by a community of conflicted people. This is today's Poetic Justice. It's a movie I will keep in my mind and heart. It's worth watching a few times. If I was to say anything bad about the movie, it'd be that there was some moments that made me clap and I'm not sure everyone else might of enjoyed me doing so lol. Go see it!
Black and Blue (2019)
Makes Black Look Bad And Blue Too
All I can say is, white people, black people do not stand out in the projects apartment buildings holding ak's and uzi's... Black Director, black cast, anti black narrative. This makes us look bad. I grew up in the projects. Gary Indiana. I was born in the late 80's. Never have I seen cops and police working together to through text messages to put a hit out. All I'm saying.
This movie also makes it look like the police will just jump on anyone's agenda per request and say to heck with everything else. We're gonna go hunt another cop because we were directed to.. This movie was a knock off training day. There are several scenes that just had attempts of being great written all into the narrative. This movie was boring. Predictable. An insult to blacks and cops. I'd wait for it to be on tv or on demand for rental. Save your money.
The Lion King (2019)
Ruined Beyond Reason
I have this movie 4 stars for visual reasons. Aside from that, nothing about this movie is the Lion King most of us came to love and appreciate. This one lacks depth, soul, entertainment value. Disney has one job, to keep the movie true to its identity. The movie practically would of sold itself a thousand more times over the years had they did so. But, they didn't. They changed so many iconic parts, words, sounds, and ultimate the entire feeling you used to get. I don't do movie reviews but my opinion matters here. I was a young boy who watched the lion king in all stages of my life. I even got my three children into it. I will avoid showing them this version. There's no reason for them to see something so bland. I hope Disney doesn't ruin anymore classics. Walt would turn in his grave.
Glass (2019)
Brief But Honest Opinion
This movie was terrible!!! It was senseless and anti climactic. Everything felt forced. The hero, the villain, the impressionable, all of it. The movie left nothing memorable. This was a missed opportunity. It could have been great, like really could have.. It wasn't even "decent." They would of been better making a Split 2 and making a separate movie for Glass and it's characters. Nothing about the movie except my own expectations, captivated me. You love all the characters obviously, but that's because of the movies prior, there's nothing in this movie to continue that warm feeling towards them. The movie had a few chuckle worthy scenes, all done by a 9 year old boy (inside joke) but aside from that, it was a one star movie. If your a fan of the movies prior, go see it for closure or wait for retail release. But, of your looking to be entertained, this isn't going to help much.
The Upside (2017)
Not The Stand Up Comedian We're Used To Seeing
I truly enjoyed this movie! The script was straight forward and compelling. This movie being based on a true story didn't take away from the movie at all! Nothing was over the top so nothing seemed to be added for a cheesy wow factor. The cinematography was subtile but it really set the mood for you knowing what and who we were trying to relate to at any given moment. Bryan did an amazing job conveying someone with an extreme disability, attempting to live out his life as harmoniously as possible while still anticipating the day it would all end. Kevin, let's talk about him! He did an amazing job not being his normal comedic self. Instead, his humor brought much needed laughs when needed. His serious side brought emphasis on the drama of the situation. All a balancing act only capable of an actor who is either known for being funny or known for more serious rolls. Without that expectation of seeing one of the two element's, the surprise of seeing the versatility of Kevin wouldn't have been as mesmerizing as it was.
All I can say is go into this movie open minded and light-hearted. Roll play while your at it, put yourself in the characters shoes and ask yourself how would you feel. It's seriously difficult to hate a movie that sparks so much emotion. Just keep in mind why your at the movies in the first place, to be submersed in a story. Not to necessarily relate to it entirely.
