Leprechaun: Origins (2014)
A new take on a old legend.
Leprechaun : origins tells the story of four American college students who get stuck in the woods of Ireland with a nasty Leprechaun who isn't trying to sell you lucky charms. Being a huge WWE and horror movie fan i was immediately intrigued by this film however i was never a big fan of the original leprechaun films. You could also say that i haven't been a big fan of any of wwe studios films other than the first marine and see no evil but i can say if your looking for a decent horror flick to watch late at night this is the movie for you it's fast paced and for the most part enjoyable with a clever plot twist which if your an average film goer you may not notice at first. The acting performances are not great but good enough for a direct to DVD film like this and i can say that WWE superstar Hornswoggle is completely unrecognizable in the role of the leprechaun. If your a fan of the original leprechaun films though you may be disappointed that this isn't the comedic leprechaun but rather a dark monster who terrorizes villages and brutally eats people. Some gripes i have though are the scenes in which the college students battle the leprechaun as the shaky cam is at points a consistent thing that you notice and there is never a clear look at the leprechaun its either shown from a blurry vision or a predator style like point of view shot which is clever for this film but does come off as a bit of a rip off though. Another problem is the runtime its only 75 minutes and the end credits take up 15 minutes of the film. i must say though that leprechaun : origins is a enjoyable horror rental which is one of the better horror films of 2014 and one of the best wwe studios productions to date . Overall i'm giving this film a 7 out of 10 HOPE YOU ENJOY THE FILM!!!
I, Frankenstein (2014)
I, think its rental worthy
I will start by saying that i wasn't really looking forward to the film that much it did surprise me in someways that i actually somewhat enjoyed it. The title having Frankenstein in it i was immediately intrigued to see while there is no scares to be found or for that much even a great plot the solid acting from bill Nighy as the demon leader and Aaron Eckhart are two cast members do good acting with what is given in the film. The cgi is at times OK and then In heavy battle scenes it is rather terrible but i will say that the demon's faces sometimes did looks convincing . My main problems with it were with some plot holes and pacing since i don't wish to spoil the film i will just say that the quick cuts and edits make you the viewer at times rather confused at what is happening . The plot feels rather generic but at the same time i feel the solid acting from Eckhart is what saved it from being a god awful underworld like train wreck.
While it isn't great i,Frankenstein is still a enjoyable popcorn film to simply sit down and watch when you're bored. Overall i give I, Frankenstein a 6 out of 10
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)
Finally the franchise is scary again!!!
This film involves a boy named Jesse who soon is possessed by a demonic presence . Thats what you need to know going into this movie it felt so great as i am a fan of this franchise to actually have a sequel that lives up to the original other than the second and fourth films which i felt retreaded so much of what made the first one so good. this one goes a different direction with some funny moments that had me dying laughing to horrifying scenes that had me on the edge of my seat. After Jesse's downstairs neighbor dies jesse soon realizes a demonic presence is controlling him and that the witch coven from the previous films wish to use him for their own purposes this premise really works for the film as instead of the clichés of no one believing one person during these events everyone you meet along the way has a presence in the film while some not as developed as others they still serve a purpose. I will say that in some scenes the actors seem to be phoning in their lines other than that there was nothing else that i didn't like about the film except perhaps the ending where Jesse (now possessed) and his friend hector end up time traveling to the house from the first film where it becomes confusing and leaves you wondering what was that about. Overall i rank this film a 8 out of 10
A Good Day to Die Hard (2013)
A good day for this franchise to die hard
Where to start with a sequel i at least thought would be decent when in reality its the worst film in the die hard franchise by far. Bruce Willis is back as john mcclane in Russia searching for his son jack after he gets into some trouble. Im going to list my problems with this entire order 1. Bruce Willis hardly ever acts like the john mclane we all know and love instead he acts like a annoying old man who just drags himself around the set. 2. The runtime in this film is only 97 minutes and it hardly gives time for character development like the other films did considering they were all over two hours 3. This film has by far the greatest villains of the whole franchise: director john Moore and skip woods who's scriptwriting and directing becomes filled with so many plot holes and shaky cam you will be nauseous. 4. Getting to the real villains we have a villain named komarov who is only revealed as the villain in the third act and the villain for the other period is a bland Russian and his team who don't do anything but yell and shoot. With all this i will list some positives there is some action that is impressive such as the car chase in the first 30 minutes but that soon runs for too long. Jai Courtney as well does his best but his best definitely isn't enough. Overall this is the worst film in the franchise it has unrealistically stupid action , no development in character or plot and Bruce Willis hardly ever resembles john mclane.
Grudge Match (2013)
Two former retired boxers return to the ring to settle a score started 30 years ago in grudge match
Grudge match: this is my first review so here we go.
This was a film that i wasn't expecting much going into, considering how it was not hyped very much. But I enjoyed it. I felt it started slow at first but gradually picked up near the end and became one of my favorite comedies of the year. While the jokes of old age are filled within the film they're not forced onto the audience as they have been in other films i've seen this year (ex: last Vegas). Sylvester Stallone, Robert DeNiro , Kim Basinger ,lan Arkin and Jon Bernthal all do great acting in this especially Jon Bernthal who I'm very glad is getting roles after the walking dead. Kevin hart on the other hand of all these actor's comedy was very stale and annoying as you will at times wish he could disappear. This film had a much deeper thought provoking plot where during the late second to third acts do delve deep into a good story that i wasn't expecting in a comedy and i feel elevated the film even higher than where i would have ranked this movie had this plot not been in the film. Stallone and DeNiro i feel i have to talk about as you truly believe these two downright hate each other and will never get along this kind of chemistry also pushes the film as does the chemistry between Bernthal and DeNiro as well the chemistry between Stallone and Basinger. With all those positives i give grudge match a 7 out of 10.
