The Fear of 13 (2015)
Thank you Nick Yarris for sharing your story <3
I've watched this doc twice so far... cried both times... boyfriend cried right along w me the second time. I'd watch it again and again. Here is the evidence of the spirit of survival and the way the world shifts on it's axis when you finally choose to surrender to your circumstances and just "be"- a message that is conveyed and received throughout this story. Nick's storytelling is raw, honest and delivered in his wonderfully lyrical way with great recall and a focus on the details/- combined with the director's (David Sington, Haroula Rose, Christopher Riley) dramatic visuals and musical score (Philip Sheppard) you cannot help but sit in the moment and appreciate the efforts put into telling a story that will stay with you a long time after.
The Lighthouse (2019)
Long, drawn out movie that wouldn't end
Watched it w 2 of my friends and we just didn't get into it at all. It took a long time for the characters to devolve into their own madnesses and by the time it began to get "exciting" we were already over it.
I'm really pleased that so many people enjoyed it because I dig W. Dafoe and R. Pattinson, but the 3 of us didn't. At all!
Different Drummers (2013)
Perfect family movie!
Great little movie. Fabulous cast. Entertaining... exciting- had me and my grandson sitting up screaming NOOOOOO- we laughed, we cried, we cheered! It also deals with the sensitive topic of illness during a time when children are really too young to understand it's limitations. This movie is the full-meal deal. We absolutely loved it!! Don't miss it!
By the Sea (2015)
God, it's bad... it's so dang bad. God dang!
1 star just because Brad can act. Watching Angelina is like nails on a chalkboard... she pouts and poses... changes her outfits and puts on a lot of makeup. That pretty much sums it up! Hubby and I have been laughing throughout it and making snarky comments. I'd feel pretty bad it, except I'm irked I'm still up trying to ride this snail out to the end. Do we ever find out why she's so depressed? Do we even care? Ridiculous! Can she please slink back into the bathtub with all her makeup on, so Brad can just drown her already?!!! Just kidding... sort of. We have no idea how this movie scored anything above a single star. Oh wait, Brad can actually act!
Daddy's Home (2015)
Sweet movie... A lot of fun...
Pretty good family movie with adult themes.. Will Ferrell is in it, after all, so you know it's going to be inappropriate at times. . A lot of laughs. Will Ferrell and Mark Walberg are the perfect team. Will is the suck-up Harvey Milktoast step-dad and Mark is the hot-as-a-firecracker sperm donor who unexpectedly shows back up in the kids lives. I get so tired of critics who rate comedies as though they are dramas. Lighten up people. Sit back and have a little fun. This movie isn't perfect, but I'd watch it again. Watch the trailer on You Tube--- it's a perfect representation of the film. Lots of gags and a few really cute twists!
Go see it with a friend or your kid! Have a good time.
Burnt (2015)
Couldn't hear a good portion of dialogue, but it didn't matter...
We laughed, grimaced and shook our heads. I'd ask: what did they say? He'd shake his head and answer: I have no idea. Then we'd laugh. This movie felt like we were served cold french fries from McDonald's. Very poor script. Very cliché. Getting back to the script: you either don't have any idea what is going on or they spell,it out for you kindergarten style. sometimes, the backgrounds no music was either too loud or just too distracting. It would be nice to actually HEAR the dialog, but being the broken record I am, you really didn't need to know what was going on, as it was mostly predictable. There was one good TWIST that was unexpected in e kitchen, but that's it. Bradley Cooper's character wasn't really tortured by his past, he just needs serious meds for his bi-polar disorder.
I would recommend skipping it.
Closure (2013)
One of the best we've seen...
I watched it twice. First, after a long night of insomnia. Second, 2 days later w my husband, who thanked me afterward for sharing the movie w him. Every part of this documentary keeps you riveted to the screen and we loved sharing the journey.
I've always said that the BEST documentary I have ever watched (my brother and hubby agree) is the one about John Walsh from America's Most Wanted. My brother and I held hands through parts of it, crying and saluting his courage and bravery. But, now I have 2 favorite documentaries and am thankful for it. BRAVO Bryan and Angela and super big hugs to their (now) super big family!
Oh, we downloaded 4 songs from the movie. Yes, very well done, indeed!
The Nanny Diaries (2007)
Like the other reviewer stated: "Better than I expected"
Very sweet. I enjoyed this movie...even broke out the Kleenex. Perfect movie for a lazy late afternoon. Hmmm... Seems I need 10 lines of text. That's silly, but here goes. Scarlett J is adorable in the movie as a brunette. She can wear anything. She's a very believable actress. I don't know the actor that plays her love interest, but well done. What a cutie and a good actor, as well. Laura Linney, as the neurotic, ever controlling, heartless, emotionally absent mommy, plays the roll of hard-hearted protagonist to the hilt. She's cold, she's wicked, she's self- absorbed, she's judgmental, lacking empathy and any maternal skills that might help make her slightly likable. And who is the a or who plays the daddy? I like him. He plays a jack-off quite well. He fit the role excellently! I realize this review isn't much help...lol... but have a great day anyway. :)
