Ferdinand (2017)
Entertaining enough
It was a good time killer, and entertaining enough. However, this takes the title of the first Disney animated movie in recent history to not make me shed a tear. Which almost made me appreciate it less lol.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Hard pass
This is on par with several other "worst movie I've ever seen" films. The plot is absurd, the acting is awful. Every moment more idiotic than the last. Definitely one of those "oh did they make this as a joke?" productions, except it wasn't funny.
Ghostbusters (2016)
You just have to pretend it's not Ghostbusters
Listen. This was an pretty ok movie with pretty ok writing and casting. The negative reviews are all just bashing on the idea that it "takes away" from the OG films. Which I get. But just do what I did. Get bourbon drunk and just watch the damn movie on its own NOT a part of a franchise or bigger picture. It's really not that bad.
The Liberator (2020)
Those downvoting for "PC culture" and "wokeness" are absurd.
Yes, this is an animated production - which I didn't know and actually hated at first. I stuck it out because I throughly enjoy WWII-related media. I ended up loving and raving about this show. When I finished, I decided to read through the user reviews and much to my dismay it was all centered around "oh my wow big surprise Netflix wants to jam race and political correctness down our throats!" Are you kidding me? This is ACTUALLY WHAT HAPPENED. Yes, believe it or not, different American cultures came together and fought the Nazi's. People have forgotten history and instead just pick a side of the modern phantom enemy: division. This show is a great story-telling experience if you can get past the animation, which only took me about 10 minutes.
The Descent (2005)
Mostly bad plot, pretty bad acting
I can bite on going down into the depths of an unknown cave and encountering some ... less than friendly life forms. But it was so irrelevant to Sarah's accident. There were creatures in the dark that had their own backstory - it never had anything to do with being haunted by the death of the daughter and husband. And really? The whole Beth and Juno thing? "She did this to me" and "find your own way out". Dumb.
Unhinged (2020)
No.
The only good things about this movie were Russell Crowe and the creative violence. Everything else was just so awful. The acting on everyone else's part and the consistent "are you serious" moments when it came to anything even attempting to resemble reality we're absolute cringe.
Last Flag Flying (2017)
Great story, great acting - HIRE A MILITARY CONSULTANT
Yet another great movie, with an all-star cast and a great storyline that was close to ruined because of a lack of attention to detail for military nuances. I'll admit it was t near as bad as most others, but I just don't understand why they don't hire even some reservist E-4 to correct the uniforms and terminology. Marines don't call LtCol's "Colonels", they properly wear the rank on their collars, and anyone who's ever done a CACO or remains detail would rip this apart.
Ava (2020)
Please start hiring and actually using consultants.
I turned this movie off within 20 minutes, against my original prediction it was going to be good based on a great cast. Within those 20 minutes, I couldn't help but call out bad effects and poor production that ruined the film that quickly. Why did they make a BMW F series sound like a Harley? Why did they edit blatant Marine combat footage over her Army origin story? When will *anyone* get military background correct (e.g. ridiculous separation documents)? It's a movie I get it. But it's based on real life, not some sci-fi fantasy...
Green Room (2015)
Raw but lacking
The storyline was 5/10 at best, but the scenes of raw amateur violence were great. You really seemed to experience the in-the-moment points of action during which a horrible yet necessary act must be taken. Very surprised that Patrick Stewart was in this; seemed like more a B List movie overall.
Range 15 (2016)
Cringed and Laughed
This is a satire movie before a zombie movie. It pokes fun at and exposes a glimpse into military life. I cringed at almost every line before immediately bursting into laughter. It's so stupid but entirely and completely relatable to anyone who has done some hard time in the military.
The Last Days of American Crime (2020)
Potential. BOTCHED.
The plot was actually kind of cool. The acting? Horrible. The action scenes? Like the didn't even hire a consultant. The love story? Cringe.
Missed the mark on this, unfortunately. "Trending" on Netflix does not mean it's good...
