When You Come Home (1947)
very good portrayal
If you like Frank then this is one of his best in my honest opinion.. Every minute of this is marvellous not slapstick but honest.. it shows Frank in very different roles but all honest and completely derivative of the great Frank himself.. If you ever get a chance to buy any of Franks films then buy them you will never regret your purchases. Not side splitting but funny all the same.. Every one similar BUT different in a Lancashire sort of way. Frank was one of the best but maybe not the greatest of comedians but he was greatly appreciated by Collectors of his films That seem only to appear on Channle 4 or BBC 2 very very late at night when almost every one is asleep..what a great great shame
It's a Grand Old World (1937)
Smart for its Age
This is the first Sandy Powell film i have seen but even with its age it is still very good, the story line is a bit in and out as all films were then But if you get to see this film you will enjoy it. He wins the Footie pools and buys a mansion for a girl whose father is in danger of losing it because of debts it's nothing to do with Sandy but who cares it is Sandys film after all..he sings a couple of songs which makes everything okay..... after all remember.."It's a Grand Old World" Sandy Powell sang and gave monologues of many types his skills were unsurpassed his comedy and humour are a legacy for all comedians and fans of 30s 40s and 50s films etc
Holiday's with Pay (1948)
very good film (based on transfer to DVDr)
I think this is a film that will appeal to all true Frank Randle Fans The copy i saw had a flaw in the last 15 minutes but with the sound turned up was still great.Frank goes on holiday with his extended family (as usual he does nowt alone)in a car towing a caravan and guess what the car breaks down (from then slapstick abounds) he eventually gets to Blackpool and his adventure begins (haunted house and all) I will not spoil it any more for you But all i will say is that If you are able to get a copy You will enjoy.I just wish i could get to see " Somewhere in Civvies & Somewhere in Politics " Maybe someone can help me find a good copy of each at a reasonable price.Fingers crossed.
