Hanu Man (2024)

Lot of Hype but Over the top movie

Started watching Hanuman in OTT after hearing lot of rave reviews online. This being a sleeper hit, had raised lot of expectations in the anticipation of seeing something new. However overall disappointed with the way this entire movie has been hyped.

CGI effects were average to good but what was the biggest disappointment was absence of solid story line which merely became a usual good vs bad super hero movie which you would have watched 1000 times. Performances were over the top and entire action sequences are just forgettable.

Even the main villain lacked the evil character.

Production value however was good and background music was loud.

This movie will be highly appreciated by kids as it's a clean family movie. So if you want to enjoy this one with your family, lower your expectations as this will be appreciated by your kids and by sr citizens . However dont expect too much from the story.

Abraham Ozler (2024)

What a letdown !

There are some great mystery & thriller movies coming up from malyalam industry I'm last few years , and started watching this movie in similar anticipation of a good thriller, but what a letdown this movie was. Easily passable despite having some good actors. This movie has many flaws , but biggest was disjointed screenplay and editing. The backstory was only saving grace but that also was concluded without proper justification. Movie fails to deliver in other department as well. Overall , this movie is below average and even such good actors could not save lackluster story and screenplay. Only watch if you have lot of spare time and money.

Dhootha (2023– )

Overly stretched series

Dhootha started out well, the first episode is well directed and interesting & immediately finds you extending it the rest of the episodes. But here is the problem, the rest of the episodes have been overly stretched. Some of the instances have been repeated, sub plots were not required. And in the middle, it becomes a too tedious watch.

However there are some good part of the series that makes you hooked till last act.

Good acting by most of the actors, Naga did pretty well job of a journalist. Parvathy did fair job of crime investigating officer but some of her investigation were too convenient. Prachi desai is wasted, we could have seen much from her.

Backstory was interesting which comes in episode 6. However overall premise was very similar to the directors previous work - 13B Overall, this could have been a 2.5 hours of a movie instead of 8 long episode. However , this series is good to be watched and binged over weekend.

Hi Nanna (2023)

Started out well but then went downhill

Started watching this movie with my family after hearing good reviews but sorry to say, highly disappointed with the movie. Nothing new, same old concepts and mishmash of older love stories.

Mrunal thakur as usual looked good but far away from good acting. Movie went downhil within 20 minutes and from intersting premise, it went and became a love story. Saw this movie in fast forward and the end was highly predictable.

Production value is high , music was just ok. Shruti hassan is wasted. Rest all actors were just ok.

Overall, easily skippable. Better to watch some older classic movie rather than wasting time on this.

Kaala (2023– )

Kaala deserves much appreciation!!

A well made series that chronologically goes back & forth from 1980s to 2018. The best hero of this series are the performances, not a single actor have under delivered their role.

A movie style series that uncovers true colors of each character slowly.

Starting with leads - Avinash Tiwari who has played IB officer flawlessly, sometimes over the board but overall well acted.

But the finest came from Jitin Gulati, and his shades of character. A slow transformation that goes from various turfs.

All others have played their characters really well.

Background score, casting and production values are top notch.

Some flaws though - bit draggy in parts, unnecessary characters exposure and too much of timelines shift that may make few watchers impatient .

Overall, a very solid drama about money laundering that should have more takers.

The Nun II (2023)

Better than previous part, jumpscares are good

Watched the Nun 2 on first day. Loaded with lot of jump scares, and Last 30 minutes with some real horror.

Screenplay is bit slow , but thats what's expected with a movie that is based on atmospheric view. Sets and locations are really good and totally sets of 1956 mood, however it takes some time to build up , and thats where I felt it could have been much tighter. But nevertheless, some scares in between were really good. Starts off like an investigative thriller.

All the characters are well played, and goes with the flow.

This Nun 2 is much better and spookier than earlier one, with last 30 minutes of horror. Recommended !

Bed Rest (2022)

Watch it only if you are fan of Melissa Berrare

Started watching this movie with lot of expectations - Good horror, and captivating storyline.

On the contrary, no major chills, a plain horror movie that picks up only in climax. But the ending is super simple. Melissa looks terrific though and if u r fan of hers, then u won't be disappointed.

Screenplay was tad too straight, no major horror elements at the start till mid, i thought it should be a great build up for the climax but the story never picks up. Some thrill in the mids, but that too was too short. However, it's not a bad movie, direction and production value was good and could be in your list if there is nothing to watch.

Bhoothakaalam (2022)

Waste of time. Nothing new, sluggish and no storyline

I was quite amazed to see why this movie have got high rating IMDB. Started watching only after such a high review but to my surprise the only horror takes place in last 20 minutes and that too very predictable. There is no story , just day to day activities of a mother and a son.

Direction is good but story and narrative is quite a let down. Acting of 2 lead actors, Revathi especially is good as usual.

I would advice don't waste your time in case you are anticipating a horror movie.

The Tomorrow War (2021)

Perfect family weekend Movie

No brain, solid action flick.. You have seen these types of movies many times but what matters is the execution. Right from the word go, no dull moment , it has everything for perfect family popcorn watch. Chris Patt in Good form, good CGI , and back to back alien action sequences and high production values. Thanks to Amazon for bringing this directly for streaming as theaters are still not open in this part of the country.

Eclipse (2021– )

Full of Emotion, passion and superb acting

Normally I do not like to review however, after seeing this series, I was so compelled to write down what I thought about it. First of all, anyone who is into action, adventure or thriller - this series is not for them. For everyone else, it is highly recommended. I have not read the novel, but this has been superbly adapted into series. Will not reveal much about story, but it is full of emotion, passion and good drama. Very well casted , especially bringing similarity between two timelines, great background score, and superb acting by everyone. However, it just drags in some episodes, however this makes series more character driven. Must watch!!

Betaal (2020– )

High quality production by Netflix

Oh boy, just completed binging Betaal at Netflix and must say that it's hight quality series from Indian production house.. we need more like this. ... Firstly , short series so you can binge it in couple of hours.. secondly , gripping that you would like to sit tight and watch till end and spookier at some places... Production is high quality, acting is great by leading actors and tight screenplay... Well done Netflix, give us more series like this.

The Outsider (2020)

Slow , boring and wasteful

I wasted my entire 2 days on this series that has nothing new to offer. The same old concept into new way. It started off well and couple of episodes were good however it got so slow in the mid that 10 episodes looked difficult to finish. Although production value was good and acting too was very realistic but makers could have made slightly pacier.

Wasted effort even after a great cast

When I first saw its trailer in one of the streaming site, I had high hopes of from this movie with ensemble star cast like Ronit, Abhay, Neeraj Kabi and above all Brendan Fresar. 15 minutes into watching and got to know that I was wrong, a great potential got wasted . Narrative of this movie is very patchy, no thrill moment, it's like a family drama. Ronit's role was short, Neeraj and Abhay was ok. I don't know what makers wanted to show - a family issue, a thriller or action. But found nothing. Only good thing was it's running time which typically was less.

Why this movie was made at first place.. this movie made no sense at all. Way too slow, boring and no susbstance at all. I would urge Netflix to stop wasting money in such type of movies that doesn't make any sense and entertain at all. Skip it at all cost..

Waste of time

Expected a good murder mystery on serial killing but it's a mixed potpourri of serial killing plus time travel plus biological weapon and many more. I think director would have got confused as which way to go.. Netflix , please stop making films like this...

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Biggest Godzilla Movie ever made!

You gonna see all the mythological giant creatures in this one. Right from frame 1 to last frame, Godzilla and other creatures are all over. No logic or story as there isn't any, just a popcorn movie that I enjoyed with my daughter. Carried on from 2014 Godzilla movie, I loved how they have maintained the original one at the core. Loved it!!

Baazaar (2018)

Should be encouraged!

First of all thanks to Netflix for bringing this movie to small screen! We sometimes tend to miss movies that are so good. I'm still wondering how this movie still haven't got what it deserved! Well made, pacy, brilliant casting and touched the topic of booking and shares which are not so common in the Indian film industry. Saif, as usual was it's best, being ruthless. The new entrant needs to show more expression and Radhika Apte was good too...

Bravo! I haven't watched such movie in recent past with such a incredible story and it's execution. This movie will give you everything you want , right from drama, thriller and socio impact of technology. A father looking for his daugter and can go to any level , just a twist with the help of technology :-) ... Thumbs up to the director and production house for bring this creative piece.

Denzel... All over

I'm quite not sure about people commenting on it's pace buts I think director did the justice by building up the story and character and yet not making it a slow watch.. it's not a usual pacy thriller but I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed.. Denzel, as always is at its best and I will definitely for it's next part...

Magic for Humans (2018–2020)

Inventive and Funny !!

Netflix has been creative in its content and here comes this great show. Or the greatest Showman!! This show has everything for your kids and family to spend your weekend - great fun, cool tricks, and above all great host and magician - Justin. Every episode has a new theme and multiple creative ways to entertain the audience. My 7 years old daughter simply loved it and have watched it twice already... so when is season 2??

Extinction (2018)

You will love it or hate it!

People may have seen alien invasion movies multiple times and this is no different.. Only things that make it different is about its narration and slight twist towards mid of the movie. Since its direct to home, production value look good as well as VFX. It will not feel like cheap sci fi movie... Can be a fun Friday flick!
