Watch this one. Just another possession flick right? Nope. Hard to synopsize too much without revealing plot points, but just know that this is a "found footage" flick in the best way. No shaky hand-held stuff. The film follows a film maker that uses multiple cameras. So that gives us different angles and legitimate cinematic quality that sets this miles ahead of your average POV flick. In fact, its very rare that there are 1st person POV shots. Excellent writing. Excellent production, Excellent acting.

I gotta say - Im tired of found footage and possession stories, but I'll be damned if this doesn't prove there is still room for both if done correctly.

I cant wait to see where David Jung goes from here.

Unnecessary?...... Maybe Not

The sad truth of the matter is that the majority of mainstream America does not watch foreign film - bummer I know. Because in my experience, it is foreign films that generally have the most captivating stories and scenarios.

OldBoy is a film I watched many years ago, and it left me with so many feelings. Of those feelings was of course shock at the ending, and sadness with the state of which the main character was left in. It was a film that I wanted others to watch, but due to having to read subtitles or sit through a less than stellar English voice over - few did.

Fast forward and here we are with a remake that gives an entire new audience the opportunity to witness this narrative. The acting is solid, it's filmed well, and its extremely close to the original. How is this a bad thing when viewed holistically?

I would be so bold to say that I preferred Joe's ending in this film over the original. Remakes will rarely be as "magical" as the originals, but they sometimes offer an alternate take on a well liked story for us that are familiar - and a brand new experience for those that do not care to see the original or are unaware of its existence.

If you have never seen the original - watch this film. If you have - give it a watch.... or not :)

Butcher Boys (2012)

Well...now I cant trust user reviews anymore

Let me start off by saying that I am in no way associated with the film - nor do I believe the other positive reviews to be. I simply had to make this my first review due to how shocked I am of the rating here.

Is this the next cult classic for horror films? Absolutely not. Was I thoroughly entertained the ENTIRE film? YES.

Make no mistake about it - this is definitely a rehashed TCM script that the writer augmented after reading a book he enjoyed. People are comparing this the Chainsaw Massacre because it feels remarkably similar. You are fooling yourself if you feel otherwise.

The plot is ripe with loose ends...and it definitely gets wacky at the end, but that's alright. Because its entertaining. TCM3D was one of the worst films I watched this year... perhaps the worst actually. Butcher Boys has solid acting for the most part, interesting characters, and truly nonstop engagement. Seriously ..its impressive if you think about it.

I am a horror movie fan. In fact, I watch damn near exclusively horror films. I passed on this one several times due to the lower rating here on IMDb. I watched because I simply had nothing else, and I am very glad I did. It's a move I will certainly be revisiting due to its tense yet "fun" (i suppose) nature.
