Annapolis (2006)
Better than it's rep
Although a lot have people have been saying that it's a waste of time to go see this movie, I would disagree. James Franco is a very talented actor, and I thought he did well in this movie. Not only that, I found Annapolis in general to be an entertaining film. The boxing scenes were well shot and exciting enough. I know that it's similar to Topgun, but I wouldn't call it a rip off. It's got it's own flare, and I throughly enjoyed watching. A good soundtrack, great cinematography, and good acting really make this movie. This movie might not be for everyone, but I'm usually a pretty tough critic and I really liked it. So, if you're looking for a good watch one night, go check out Annapolis and decide for yourself.
Ladder 49 (2004)
Ladder 49 is a wonderful, eye-opening film...
Ladder 49 is primarily a look through the eyes of fire fighter Jack Morrison. And what a view it is. This movie brings up many strong emotions for me. It's humorous, yet serious, and light, yet amazingly sad. It's affected me very deeply. I mean, you hear about fire fighters almost all the time, but do you ever really think that deeply into what they do? I didn't. But now, I cannot believe that there are people out there who are that selfless and brave. They risk their lives for people they don't even know, every day. Amazing. The other thing I love about this movie is that it's very realistic. Brave as he is, Jack isn't perfect. And the ending isn't exactly what you'd expect. It leaves you with a sharp pang of sadness. This is probably the saddest movie I've ever seen. And probably the only movie that I've walked out of where the only noise is people sobbing and sniffing. I'm quite the critic, but I fell in love with this movie. Enough to see it three times in theaters, when I only saw it for the first time quite awhile after it came out. I know it's not usually top on most people's lists to go see, but do it. It's definitely worth it.
