Don't trust the 6.9 rating, nice as it is
27 August 2023
This movie is so much better than I expected when initially seeing its IMDb score. I saw a clip of it in Instagram and thought it'd be an interesting story to watch, but when I saw the rating here I almost gave up on watching it. I'm glad I didn't. The movie was very interesting throughout. It has a great cast and the fact that the story is true makes it all the more engaging. I found myself looking up what the numbers were that Jerry and Marge had made in real life while I was watching it. It is a very compelling, feel good story that will lighten your mood for the day and keep you hooked from beginning to end. Definitely worth a watch in my opinion.

Loses a star for the worst CGI I've ever seen in my life
21 May 2023
This is a good show. It is entertaining from beginning to watch, a murder mystery that is very predictable, but one that still manages to grab and keep your attention. The visuals are generally pretty good, with spectacular set-dreasing that really helps with immersion. The actors are a good fit for their roles with Jenna Ortega's stellar performance as Wednesday being the obvious highlight of the series. Some side characters are dull and have very superficial traits or quirks which makes us really not feel for them if anything happens to them.

With all that out of the way, Netflix, what the freaking hell is up with the CGI in this show? It's so bad it COMPLETELY breaks any immersion you can have while watching it. The "Hyde", which is a mysterious creature that is the main villain of the show, feels like it got a total of 2 minutes of work from the CGI team. It looks like the graphics from a (not even AAA) PS3 game. It's so bad it makes movies and TV shows from the 90s and even 80s look like they were made in 2100. It is by far the worst CGI I have ever seen in my life and, for that, it costs this show a whole star in my book. If you're unwilling to spend the amount of money that's necessary to make the creatures feel and look believable in the first place, then find a way to make the creatures less complex until they fit your budget for their creation (which seems to be of approximately, at most, $2.50). I've literally seen school projects from friends in middle school have better special effects than this, and I've graduated from high school in 2013.

For the next season, keep the writers, the set-dressers, the actors and all the rest of the crew, but please, for all that is holy and sacred, replace (or make some new hirings for) that pathetic excuse for a CGI team. This should never have been approved for airing before these issues were fixed.

The Last of Us (2023– )
6/10
Overrated
18 March 2023
Honestly, I think this is a great show for people who haven't played the game. However, for those of us who are cursed to have done so, it is an incredible let-down. Scenes that are not part of the game's storyline and don't do much to further the plot are drawn-out and turned into whole episodes, while scenes that are some of the most important and impactful in the game are dismissed, have different chapters merged into one scene, and lack the sense of high stakes that was ever present in the source material.

The first 2 episodes are spectacular and extremely loyal to the game, but everything after that is what I would consider a series of bad decisions, with the 2 last episodes of the 1st season being perhaps the biggest disappointment in television since the final season of Game of Thrones. The presence of the infected, which is one of the core aspects of the lore, is lackluster to say the least, with many scenes that have major fights against tons of them in the game being turned into 30-second scenes with few or no infected in the show. Same thing goes for other enemies. For a show with a big budget, it sure felt like they were on a crunch for money and wanted to save on SFX and on side characters/ensembles. The 2 last episodes should've been spread out into at least 4 episodes for the story not to feel as rushed as it did and for this show to have any chance of redemption.

My advice: if you haven't played the game yet, go do that and forget about this show of mediocrity. But if you feel like you really need to watch this, do it before playing the game. It will feel much less underwhelming.

7/10 is the score I give it trying my best to pretend that I haven't played the game. With the game in mind, this is a 5/10 tops.

HBO, do better.

And the plot thickens.
1 July 2022
Great episode. Calms your nerves after the rollercoaster of emotions the last one was. Gives us a lot more insight into some characters, by showing us Butcher's, Noir's, and even a significant bit of Homelander's back stories. It was basically an exposition episode, but very well made and the stories were very well told with an intriguing plot twist. Excited to see what's going to happen next!

Hell of a ride.
24 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Damn, that was the best episode in this show so far by a LOT. Incredible and mind-blowingly engaging from start to finish. Spoilers below.

Finally seeing the human side of homelander come out impeccably accomplishes its task making us feel empathy for what is perhaps the evilest man in the world. The character development for Hughie, Annie, and especially MM was jawbreaking and very impressively well-crafted. Even freaking A-Train had me feeling compassion for him.

This episode simply hits it out of the park. It is one of the best things I've seen in television, period. I'd give it an 11/10 if I could.

Warning: Spoilers
This was amazing.

Howard's death was masterfully done and leaves even Jimmy's biggest fans incredibly mad at him and Kim for what they've done. One of the best episodes in the series so far. The ending felt like the plot twists in early seasons of GoT. It was quality. 10/10.

This is a filler episode. Kinda annoying having to wait a week for an episode that barely moves the plot forward.

Hopefully next week will be better. Worst episode in this season so far, in my opinion. Still better than most shows out there, though.

Good show, but overhyped
24 April 2022
This is a good show. It's a bit boring in the beginning, but it gets better and better the more you watch it. Acting is a bit weak on the first episode, in my opinion, with Adam Scott's crying scene being especially cringeworthy. It also gets better with time.

There are a considerable amount of plot holes (like why are they being constantly surveilled all the time except for when they're doing something they're not allowed to do?), but no fatal flaws that ruin the entire show so far. It can be a little slow at times, but you usually get rewarded for your patience.

Character development is relatively fast-paced for just one season, but in this show, that's a good thing, and it works.

The aesthetics are interesting, but I personally am not a big fan of the mixed past-and-future thing the show has going on. Just pick one time and go with it.

All in all, it is worth watching, but it's not really a show that should be the main motivator for you signing up for yet another streaming service (though Apple TV is really worth its price currently). It is very overhyped, though, and in my opinion it's around a 7-8/10. I'll currently go for 7 just because of the plot holes, which I hope they'll fix in the future.

I'm excited for the next season, and think it'll be much better than the 1st one, as that was a bit confusing because of the concept of the show.

The poorest quality fight scene I have ever seen
17 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, what the hell was this? Why did they show Rollo and Ragnar punching each other in slow motion? All it did was break the immersion and make ir clear as day that they weren't hitting each other at all. Also, they "punched" each other for like 5 minutes straight, both of their faces are bloody as heck, yet you can't see a single cut, bruise, broken nose, or even light scratch on either of them? Then there is the scene where Lagertha gets stabbed and you can clearly see the squared off tip of the sword that hit her, again, due to the dramatic use of slow motion that just did not work. This is the worst episode in this show so far for me, and I think it's only so highly rated because people will love any fight scene you give them.

Underwhelming would be a heck of an understatement for what this episode was. It was complete and utter garbage.

Squid Game (2021– )

Weak
30 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First off, this show is worth a watch, despite my rating for it. It is entertaining and gets you hooked (though it definitely won't get you hanging on the edge of your seat). The problem is: the plot is weak, riddled with clichés, and full of plot holes.

There is no such thing as a surprising plot twist in this show. After the first couple of episodes, you already know exactly what is going to happen. As I said, it is okay to watch when you have nothing else to see, but, in my honest opinion, it is super undeserving of its 8+ rating and not at all worth all the hype.

Here's a small, very limited, list of a few issues I found with it. (ATTENTION: SPOILERS):
  • What are the odds that, in a group of 201 people, they would make a vote and that vote would be split exactly in half, with the last one to vote being the tie-breaker? Seriously, I think that the odds of that vote ending 101 to 100 are less likely than the odds of a show like that existing in real life.

  • They talk a big game about how they strive to provide a space that is equal for everyone, and are even apologetic when something doesn't go according to that rule. Well, sorry to say, but if you allow the very OWNER of the criminal organization play the games and not suffer any consequences when he loses, then you are absolutely NOT providing a fair and leveled playing field for everyone. Also, the dude with the tattoo got MULTIPLE benefits throughout the show. Here are a few:
1. When someone threatened to kill another player, they would instantly face the threat of being killed themselves by the show staff. However, when tattoo dude kills someone in front of the staff, he suffers no consequence whatsoever.

2. Tattoo guy agreed to play the marbles game one way. However, when he started to lose, he cried foul to the staff and they actually allowed him to change the game (seriously, that was ridiculous plot armor for him) 3. Whenever someone refused to play a game, they would instantly face the consequences, as people needed to keep playing to provide the VIPs with more entertaining value in the finale. When tattoo dude refuses to play on the glass game, however, absolutely nothing happens to him. Seriously?

Anyways, back to the regular stuff:
  • The plot, as I previously mentioned, is constantly obvious and easy to guess. Everyone knew the smart dude would become a villain, everyone knew that the lady that didn't find a partner for that marble contest would be left alive, and everyone knew that tattoo dude was not going to lose that marble game because he just had the most incredible, unbreakable plot armor in history. It was also obvious as heck that the competition that was in pairs was going to make one character play against the other. And they acted like all of those were like huge plot twists. Do you think your audience is that stupid?

  • There is no real tension that leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat throughout the show because the main characters are the only ones that are thoroughly explored, and you either love them or hate them. No matter what happens, you ALWAYS know that the team in which the protagonist is on is going to win, and you can always figure out who is going to win or lose in all contests. In the marble contest, again, they had MULTIPLE opportunities to actually introduce a valuable plot twist, but no. Face tattoo dude lives, protagonist lives, smart guy lives, north korean girl lives, crazy lady lives. You can just see the producers were desperate to keep these characters on because they, themselves didn't have enough faith in their work to think that it would be able to sustain itself after killing off a main character.

  • Another RIDICULOUS plot device was the body of the guard that the police officer killed washing up exactly on the island were they were holding the games, when he threw the body off of the boat in THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN. That scene was completely unnecessary and broke my immersion on the show even more.

  • Are you telling me that Ali, a guy who came all the way from Pakistan to live in South Korea ACTUALLY managed to learn how to speak Korean, one of the most difficult languages for non-native speakers, flawlessly and perfectly, but didn't know what even or odd numbers were? REALLY? SERIOUSLY?

  • And then there is the ending. So, this show is going to tell me that that stupid main character, who did absolutely nothing throughout the show, didn't even manage to win it by himself, is now going to take on a whole criminal organization that even has its own island? The dude is going to go from a jackass who can't even wipe his own butt and lives off of his mother's money in his 30s to a John Wick type of guy who can destroy anything he touches? What a terrible ending to a severely underwhelming show.

There are many more ridiculous plot holes to be talked about, those are just some of the highlights. However, since this review is already long enough, I'm going to leave it here.

Very mediocre show. Worth a watch if you have nothing else to see, but do not believe the hype. 6/10 (being very generous).

As famed YouTuber Ryan George would put it, Wow (x4). This is simply an amazing movie with spectacular production value. I was thoroughly entertained throughout its duration. And I think most people will be, too. Definitely one of the best Marvel movies out there. Oh, and definitely stick around for the mid and post-credit scenes, they are totally worth it.

"Loki will return in season 2"
14 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was quite sure that this was going to be a one-season series, but it clearly won't. And that's why this finale left so many questions unanswered.

Great episode, but kind of a let down in many aspects. Also, Tom Hiddleston's acting on this one was very subpar. It felt very theatrical and over the top at moments, and straight up amateurish at others. Not his greatest work.

Can't wait to see the repercussions this series will have on the MCU and what is going to happen in season 2.

Overall, this episode was the biggest let down of the season for me. However, the series is still definitely worth a watch.

Great episode, not as great as the previous one
7 July 2021
Although a lot has happened in this episode, it was, by every definition of the word, a filler. The most significant part of it was the ending, which is just a cliffhanger for the really important episode: the next one. Episode 4 was the best yet, but this is in a firm - yet distant - second place.

Can't wait for the finale.

Slow burn
2 July 2021
The story told by this show is magnificent, and the fact that it was inspired by real-life events is at the same time thrilling and terrifying. To think that such vile, despicable persons exist in this world and live among the rest of us is something capable of causing deep anxiety in any of us.

The show itself, however, is severely underwhelming. The lack of cohesiveness gets in the way of the storyline and I'm just going to say it: the first 4 episodes (which are half of the show) are a pain to watch, and you will have to suffer through them in order to get to the good stuff. The show picks up pace and gets really good on episode 5, and from there on, it's definitely a 9/10.

It almost seems like they changed the writers and producers mid-season, because it feels like you are watching another show about the same subject.

It's important to say that none of it was the actors' fault, though, as they were all impeccably cast (apart from the fact that they look completely different from the people they are portraying) and their acting is really on point.

Worth a watch if you are willing to suffer through half of the episodes. Expect to be super bored for almost 4 hours, though. Because of that, I don't see this becoming anyone's favorite short series.

7/10.

Get ready to train your suspension of disbelief
17 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show is okay. It's fun to watch when you've already seen everything you wanted to and now want something just to pass the time while new seasons of your favorite shows don't come out. I don't see it becoming anyone's favorite TV series, and I think it takes itself way too seriously. The impact phrases in the beginning that always end in "the eternal train, 1,001 cars long" or something along these lines gets really repetitive and tiresome after the first 3 or 4 episodes, and sounds super obnoxious and out of place most of the time.

There are far too many plot holes in the storyline, too, so, as the title of this review says, get ready to train your suspension of disbelief. Far too many coincidences, and too many obvious things. For example, how did no one know that Melanie was Mr Wilford for years? It was so obvious from the first 10 minutes of the show and they made it out to be a big reveal in the end of the first episode. Everyone with more than a couple of braincells wasn't surprised by that.

Overall, it's a watchable show, but don't put too much thought into it and don't go into it thinking it's going to keep you at the edge of your seat - it's a sci-fi full of cliches whose writers don't seem to want to go the extra mile in order to make it great. It's full of unnecessary gore scenes that don't add anything useful to the storyline and devoid mysteries, as the story fails miserably in surprising the viewer. Could've been great, but ended up being just something to watch when you don't have anything else to see or do.

6/10.

The only reason I won't rate this a 1 or 2 out of 10 is because there are worse finales out there (GOT and HIMYM are prime examples), but oh my God this was just TERRIBLE. Super lazy writing. Terrible ending to a mediocre show.

Good, not great
14 February 2021
Brazilian TV shows have come a long way since the Globo era. Netflix has brought a refreshing new direction to the repetitive pace of the usual Brazilian soap operas. This show, Good Morning, Veronica, and 3% are true gems that stand out amongst the sea of uncreative soap operas made by traditional TV networks. There is, however, a long way to go until we achieve the same greatness of American shows. Brazilian acting is evolving, but at the speed of baby steps. On this show, more than on the other 2 I've mentioned, I have noticed some really immersion-breaking flaws in the acting, some of which would've been really simple to fix by recording another take. It astounds me how a show with such a great story just seems like it couldn't bother re-recording some scenes to make it more immersive. Amongst the (many) acting flaws are parts where the actors say the wrong words and then correct themselves, stutter, and sometimes even stop saying a sentence in an abrupt way, as if they thought their character still had more to say, but then realized their line was over. All of those were simple fixes and they completely take the immersion away from the show, at least for me. Hopefully those issues will be ironed out in season 2 but, for now, I simply cannot understand the people who give it a 10-star rating. I think that we should judge a show by its quality, not because it features folklore from our country and that makes us feel special. Don't get me wrong, the show has potential and some actors, such as Marco Pigiossi (Eric), Áurea Maranhão (Márcia), and Manu Dirguez (Luna) are flawless in their acting and carry the show on the backs. Some others, however, are disappointing, especially when looking at their background as actors. I honestly did not like Alessandra Negrini's nor Fábio Lago's acting on this show, and I loved Lago's "Baiano" in Elite Squad.

All in all, it is an okay show to watch, but expect some jarring moments that are part of the evolving cinematographic industry in Brazil. Thank you Netflix for finally helping us get out of the cycle of soap operas that all look the same.

This is, by far, the worst show I've ever came across. The plot is terrible, the timing is terrible, they clearly have no knowledge of even basic medicine at all and there isn't a word in the English dictionary that is capable of defining how terrible the cringeworthy acting is.

What the hell happened?
21 March 2020
I truly enjoyed season 1 of PPD. Yeah, it was a lazy copy of Brickleberry, but damn it, I loved it. However, season 2 has just been released and I am left feeling completely lost. The crew completely lost direction of where they are going on this one. The show went straight from pretty good to just complete and utter trash. Lazy puns, confusing plots and just a barely watchable junk that is way more of a chore to watch than something entertaining. My recommendation to anyone who is reading is: stop at season 1.

And to the writers of the show: be better. Do better. Season 2 of this show is truly one of the worst "entertainment" content I have ever seen, and I have watched even the last season of Game of Thrones.

Better Call Saul (2015–2022)

The Best Spinoff That No One Asked For
27 August 2018
A fair warning for any of you that is planning on wathing this series: Watch Breaking Bad First! I've got to admit, when Netflix first announced this show, I kind of had mixed feelings about it. As a loyal Breaking Bad fan, I thought it'd be great to have a way to continue in the series universe AND I already loved Saul Goodman. Saul was, actually, one of the most surprisingly in-depth characters in the whole show for me, but I still couldn't comprehend how would Netflix make up enough of a story to create a whole series based on this one character's life, and well, it didn't! Betrer Call Saul comes as a surprisingly complex show, demonstrating the backgrounds of not only Saul, but many of the main (and side) characters of Breaking Bad. The story is not only very rich in details, but it is surprising. The way the writers managed to create such a deep, dark background to Saul amazes me to a point where it's actually difficult to express in words. Nothing that happens is predictable in this show, and everything you may think going in to it will prove wrong. Now, usually, when that happens, the story ends up really confusing and difficult to understand which makes for a bad show. Not in this case. With all of the upsides, however, this is not a perfect show. First of all, if you are expecting an action-packed fast pacing show, I wouldn't reccomend this series for you. Better Call Saul really is based on the Story of BrBa characters and, therefore, it cannot have as much action as Walter White's show had. Sometimes, the story drags on for a little longer than it should and you end up getting a little bored in some parts of some episodes. None of that, however, makes that any less of a Awesome series that is a must watch for any BrBa fan.

How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014)
10/10
Not just a show, but a life lesson.
19 August 2018
How I Met Your Mother is more than just a comedy show. It contains some of the most valuable life lessons out of any series I've ever watched (and trust me, I've watched quite a few of them). The contrast between the characters is brilliant, having 3 men: Barney, the single dude that just wants to live life to its fullest and enjoy it with his friends going after girls, Ted, who is just tired of the single life and wants to find the love of his life and Marshall, who has already found his loved one, and then there are the 2 women: Lily, who is Marshall's girlfriend, and Robin, who just doesn't really know what she wants out of her life. All the characters are special in their own ways and show truly unique characteristics of their own.

The good thing about having independent and different characters, is that the series doesn't have to focus all of its attention to the protagonist. Every single character has a defining role on the show, and there isn't a single episode where one of the five doesn't appear. Also, the series goes beyond just commedy and inserts some drama on the script, with major plot twists and invaluable life lessons for those who still aren't old enough to have experimented all of the stages of a love life and a relationship.

Due to everything that this show represents, it is by far my favourite sitcom, and one of my top 5 series. I've watched it 6 times already and probably will keep on watching 'till I grow very old. 100% reccomended.
