School of Rock (2003)
Charming and captivating, every minute.
I had pretty low expectations, I don't love really silly comedy (often Jack Black). But I was so won over by the sweet premise and these dang kids! I loved that all the kids played all the music, instead of dubbing over and faking it. It was so captivating to watch these kiddos discover their passion and to watch Jack Black relate to them without being pandering. So so so pleasantly surprised (even tearing up a little)!
Other than Miranda cosgrove, surprisingly not a lot of these kids didn't go on to do a lot more acting work. But exceptional casting of great kids! And good writing that showcases Jack Black at his best.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window: Episode 5 (2022)
Right on the mark
The genre cliches are above and beyond in this one. So ridiculous, but just as ridiculous as every other movie you've ever seen exactly like it. So funny.
Mulan (2020)
It's not the same, but is also wonderful!
Obviously it's not the animated movie, but I am empowered and entertained watching this story. I love the changes they made to the plot in order to preserve historical accuracy as well as modern expectations.
