NAGA (2023)
This is an Arabic art movie, not a horror
First of all, this is not a horror movie. An art movie that also includes little psychedelic experience. (This is not an spoiler cos' i want you to know what kind of movie this is)
The director, cinematographer, editing and music create a complete feast of art and sometime fast pace.
The good part is that this is an Arabic movie, not a European movie. It gives a lot of information about their culture and even goes over it. Many seemingly absurd scenes become interconnected. If you have watched and loved European animated artistic movies (like Run Lola Run), you will love this movie too. But if you are a classic Hollywood watcher expecting a horror movie, don't watch it at all.
Le otto montagne (2022)
It is a movie for people who have troubled relationships with their fathers
It is a movie for people who have troubled relationships with their fathers, who feel like they cannot make the right choices in their lives, who also know a little about village life, and who can understand such people, at least a little. Of course, the director and writer (husband and wife) adapted this movie from the book. But they also felt something so that they were able to reflect the essence of this book to us. (The director learned Italian in order to communicate better with the actors. In order to want to shoot such a movie without knowing Italian, the director must really convince the director of the book that is adapted. In addition, it is a production that really put effort in, as the child and young actors act so bravely in dangerous places, and the shots are shot from very far away, where the actor is left alone on the mountain. Almost the entire team devoted themselves to the film. It's not a movie, it's like real scenes.
Vesper (2022)
More than a dystopian movie
Families who sell their children's blood to live, mosquito machines that carry that blood, and eventually those who live under protection in the castle.
The movie that made me think more after the words "dedicated to our mothers and fathers" at the end of the movie.
As a sub-plot, it tells about a system that steals children's youth and uses them, while also making them its own slaves.
Of course, when watched as a movie, very original and creative dystopian details have been added, there are much more details than just the transformation of an important girl who falls out of the plane.
Just when I thought it was incredibly thought out and the details were handled as if they were going to shoot a TV series, the "red plants that should not be touched" scene came along.
And that's all deserve woaw.
There are no characters acting stupidly, yes, I saw minor clichés in some scenes, but there were no cliché characters making ridiculous decisions that would make you angry.
Ketenpere (2017)
Nearly an art movie. Not a classic comedy
I don't watch a lot of Turkish movies, especially comedy movies. Because Turkish comedies are made with simple and absurd jokes for the majority of the public. But Safak Sezer reflected the realities of the extras in the film industry in this movie, that it almost turned into an art movie. The funny part is that this character is struggling and of course other characters are doing everything they can to become famous. In general, the director reflected the realities of the Turkish people on the screen. Therefore, it is a movie that is way above my expectations and could be a very good art movie if a little more effort was made. Note: It is very different from the cliché Turkish comedy films or other films of the director.
Ahlat Agaci (2018)
It caught me so bad, cos of similarity to my life
I don't want to criticize this movie with all sort of subjects like cinematography, directing, dialogs, characters, climax, politics or subtles...
It caught me bad cos, Sinan's life so similar in some points to my life. I hate my fathed (i have very good reasons btw) and i impressed from my mother, cos she fight for us (and i still respect for that) but after some years and some realization, and inquiring myself and my life. I lived a situation like Sinan. In the end, only person who cares and understand me a lot was my father, nor my friends, nor spouse. (It's not much understanding but the most one)
Major (2022)
I think reviewers are just paid bots
I saw the reviews then give a shot but 10 min. Later i realize it's gone be unrealistic Bollywood action movie. If you watch to the last second, you will see that's right.
Uysallar (2022)
I quit in middle of first episode
I don't what will happen or it can be very well for another human-being. But when in first episode when he stay with his father, and father was acting sarcastic and he didn't fckinf anything. It's like sci-fi.
Eye in the Sky (2015)
One child vs thousand people... That child would find the cure of cancer
I'm just in middle of the movie, until this point everything was going clever and realistic, include all politic and permission calls. But one low rank soldier decide for what is right what is wrong, and it immediately turns to like Batman movie for me. (sorry for my weak writing)
Bajo la piel de lobo (2017)
Turin Horse mix with Revenant
This my review for who didn't watch it, and want to watch this. Cinematography like Revenant, screenplay like Turin Horse. So there will be loneliness, sadness, death, revenge and will be sacrifice, but if you think that you can see, so that's your movie.
Human (2015)
Every human-being MUST watch
I couldn't believe when see that numbers of rating and reviews are so less, and also suprised to not so much festival attended. But i can say very honestly, every human-being must watch to see "the other" and himself/ herself.
First Cow (2019)
Watching like daily life in 1800's realistic documentary
It's like slow pace documentary, and not at all.. but there lots of subtle themes like capitalism, punishment, changing fashion of clothes and what we are making to the nature.. If you look and listen carefully you will understand where we started to lose ourselves in "modern life" and there is completely detailed scenes, clothes, foods, dialogues. You can be amaze with atmosphere. But if you looking for an action, or movie timeline like climax or 3-5 structure, i'm sorry and don't waste your time. But if you like "no country for old men", this is the western and non-action slow-pace version. Sometimes we need to change our view to movies. This is art, this is cinema, it's pleasant in some different taste.
I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore. (2017)
I don't usually review. Not wasted potential but not so much effort
Sundance, rating, metascore reviews... don't make them you trick. With these actors and lines in the beginning, that was good but 1 hour later, it's getting boring, and the last quarter can't save the movie. Actors are good but can't save the script. Sorry for my poor english but i can say there are lots of movies getting a point about people who acting each other angry, or with hatred. And also that movies giving very subtle humor , comedy and fun with all their gores. I can say this isn't "crime, comedy" genre. Just drama which is trying to give lessons about today's people and trying to be funny. That's all. I know you won't believe me, cause i can't explain in right way, but watch and decide yourself.
Ps: cinematography is ok but that faded Color Grading is just messy, old and just bad.
