Blue Planet II (2017)
Can't be less than a 10 can it?
If this isn't a 10 rated program I don't know what is. Peerless photography with of course the best possible narrator who not only brings gravitas to the subject but genuine care, emotion. This subject that's not only hugely interesting but increasingly topical and important in our consideration of how we act in the world.
The Inbetweeners 2 (2014)
Best big screen comedy for ages.
This film resulted in a manifestation of what I like to call 'a lot of laughing', hence achieved it's raison d'être. Don't eat while watching, you may choke. It has not tried to change the winning formula form the series or the first film yet in my opinion was as enjoyable as any episode if not more so. I hope that long may it continue and look forward to 'Coach Trip: Scotland' or 'Ocean Cruise' when the lads reach their octogenarian era. Having lately seen Neighbors (yes spelt incorrectly), 22 Jump Street and numerous other American comedies I can safely say this has trounced them all without trying too hard. If you haven't already you can stop reading now as these lines are for the requisite 10 line review for IMDb, just buy, rent or go to the cinema and see this film and enjoy.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Thoroughly enjoyable film
I really enjoyed this film, possibly for all the wrong reasons as I suspect the actors did too. Not sure if it was a long advert for complete debauchery, materialism and capitalism or intended as a rueful to trigger rumination in the viewer. Sure it is the latter, but there was comedy and empathy for the most part, with predictable consequences so cleverly catering for either viewer. DiCaprio roared in this film with an evangelical assurance. Plenty of accolades earned from the supporting cast too. Worthy of 10 for the first 3/4, then a slight slide. I decided it's best not to let the thought of very highly paid actors riding on the backs of a very able and willing support cast along with the vagaries of Hollywood blur with the moral story of the film, there are some vital issues raised as the film attempts to pontificate about it mother country. Take them or leave them. I took them.
