Masquerade (2021)
BORING oh my god
I watched this movie, and by god is it boring.
The twist at the end, A neat one mind you, just cannot save this movie.
The acting at the start is bad, Thorne doesn't show the range this role needed.
Alyvia Alyn Lind is the only one who's acting is actually not that bad.
But ever since Daybreak i am expecting her to be able to make it far.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
30 years in the future, this movie will still be a dud.
The Tomorrow war...
Sure the idea is cool but for a movie with war in the title there sure is a lot of talking in it.
In a way the movie feels like it was a tv series, but somehow money started to run out and they decided to make it a movie.
That's the only reason i can think they introduce some characters half hearted and then have them killed off. Oh no , that dude died, oh no shirt lady and plus sized guy, no not them them too"
there is an environmental message in there, but its to much of a happy slapping metaphor then anything else. And in that it misses the mark, and kinda comes of as preachy, and seeing this is an amazon movie the anti government sentiment in the movie is....wow its....yeah something else , something else really preachy.
And yes i am sure others have said it before , the plot holes and stupid stuff that happens can be a bit distracting.
But the fact that nobody else thought about checking out the claws of the creatures and that the past people had to discover that it came from a Chinese super volcano, and a space ship that crash landed in Russia, its just. Kinda daft.
Look it is not a bad movie, but its just barely fun enough to be a fun movie, a movie you watch when you feel like just watching something.
But it is not the " edge of tomorrow" of the 2020's.
Fear Street: 1666 (2021)
the mix of sub genre's doesnt hit it off.
This closing piece of the Trilogy is really predictable. Don't get me wrong it is not a bad movie, it is quite a fun movie but it also is not a good movie either. Its a fun one.
I loved the second movie and had some hopes that this one would be more like that one as well, as there the sub genre of horror kind off blended well between the " haunting" and " Slasher" Sub genre's mixed with a more modern type of horror.
This 3rd movie is more like the crucible and the vvitch but just doesn't capture it well enough.
The trick of having most of the same characters play different " ancestral" roles in the 3rd movie was a neat enough trick, that also kind of felt like it was done for budget reasons, but hey budget reasons can lead to great ideas.
Sadly ideas is where this movie lacks in. Like i said i liked the 2nd movie the most, but in the larger scheme it just felt like a misdirection, just a vehicle to make people go " oh i remember that from the 2nd movie" you could have cut out all the summer camp stuff, and put the before and after within the other 2 movies and there would have not been lost much, and that is a sad thing as fear street part 2 1978 is a hell of a lot of fun just doesn't add much besides some unanswered questions.
The biggest problem is the twists, they are not that clever,
oh no the sheriff named Goode is a bad guy. The witch Sarah Fier is not bad at all, but a good person sacrificing her self.
The plot holes the " revelation" opens up kinda sucked me out of it,
why did the sheriff save Ziggy? Sure i think he really loved her, but why would he still go evil. And why was it him and not his brother also ? I mean ...they could have done an excellent fake out, with he sheriff not being bad all together but unable to resist the evil of the family.
But nope as soon as the MC finds out the witch is not a witch but innocents the sheriff turns around and goes " Lets go full on evil now. He is almost mustache twirling evil.
So many story ideas, not used with a conclusion of the family going " Oh no we never knew he was a serial killer". The movie doesnt issue many rules as to the devil thing, sure the ancestor of the goode family says that its a couple of kills every couple of years, but we don't know if that is a minimum requirement, why not just, go to the altar do the thing, and say a name ?
Once again i might be ripping on the movie, but it is not a bad movie, it is a fun movie that will not change much, or be like a high point in sub genre blending movies,
the acting was not that bad (although the accents of the 1666 time kinda were, but it was clear they all had accent coaches working with them.
I still give it a 7 out of ten as it felt like a fun watch, just bogged down a little by much to " save" story telling.
Lost After Dark (2015)
A fun little I wanna be like that movie- movie
A movie that doesn't seem to know what Era the 80's were.
The movie is clearly trying to be a homage to the slasher movies of the 80's but some makes some mistakes with that.
First of no the movie is not good, , the acting is ....acted. To me it was clear i was watching young actors saying their lines and doing their job, there was no real investment in it, but most actors i never heard of ( except for Kendra Leigh Timmins, who's presence made me give one more star to the movie) The Movie also seemed to start out with the cliché " victim checklist" and would made you check off all that would be killed. But then it switched it around some, and when you do a homage movie , trying to be not like the movies you pay homage to, pulls it out of the Era of the 80's and place it firmly in 2014, 30 years later then the movie is said to take place.
Yet the movie started really out like an 80's movie but lost some of that feel the more the movie progressed.
Although the fact the cliché checklist can be used but not in the sense you would expect is nice, just not for what this movie wanted to be. To me it felt more like " We put in a cassette recorder and take out the mobile phones , " tadaa, the eighties"
The story is B sorry i cant put it any other way like that.
The see a name and only after finding a scary altar thing in a room is one of the characters going " Yea i know that name , there is this story about the people with that name and what they were." It came out of no where and felt shoehorned in there. Why not have him remember that name before, and also the kids know the story , the sheriff at the end was there and so knows it, but the deputy was like " I never heard of that" that made the reveal of the story of the killers origin more shoehorned in, in a " Oh yes the killer needs to have an origin"
Also the last shot of the movies was more a late 70's thing and not really an 80's thing , but that is nit picking.
And still i gave the movie a 6 star ..... even after all this bad stuff i have been saying.
And that is because i see Actors , especially the young ones having fun, In my mind i could see them goofing about when the camera's were off. And yes the acting might be bad, but in that the movie does succeeded in one type of movie from he 80's The, what i call " We wanna be like ......" Movies. a lot of slashers came out that were just not like the big ones of that era but did their best to be like, because they so wanted to be like the movie, and in that this movie succeeded.
the movie is not even 90 minutes, and a great time to waste time, and I feel we should see more of Kendra Timmins on the "big" Screen
Into the Storm (2014)
Into the storm suffers from a lack of focus
According to the guy next to me in the cinema "this movie is twister 2 , yea it is the sequel to twister" And while this is not the truth I can see why he thought this, but to compare Into the storm with twister would sell both movies short even though their similarities.
Into the storm is an old fashioned disaster movie, one with one mayor disadvantage to others in the genre, lack of focus, we see the movie from different camera's and while this movie is not in the found footage category but dabbles more in the fake documentary there are just to many side lines and side characters to feel anything when one of those characters meet their end. This lack of focus breaks up an other wise solid entry into the disaster movie genre that was nearly slaughtered with 2012.
Into the storm Follows some storm-hunters and several villages of the town Silverton, The head storm-hunter/documentary maker desperately wants to film the inside of one and has a special tank like car for that "The Titus" He is so desperate for the last time he managed to film a tornado was a year ago , and as you can guess he will get his fair share of them over the coarse of the movie.
Another short side track was some other local storm-hunters looking for youtube fame. These 2 men can only be described as cliché small town folk, doing all sorts of crazy stuff. they are a little comic reliefie that are not really comic relief but more obnoxious and bordering on annoying.
The 3rd side track is a Father who is the vice dean and his two sons, one played by Natahan Kress .who almost seems type cast as a alternate version of the role of Freddie Benson in Icarly, but he does play his roll well, The father and older brother felt a little stiff to me. The Father has his sons document a time capsule on video for school and apparently some of the Town too, it is never explained why. The father also has the dean that is like usual a stiff prick and in the short moments he is in the movie was also a little stiff.
This older brother takes up a portion of the 4th side track where he and the girl he has a crush on go to a abandoned paper factory so the girl can shoot a video to replace one she had lost, as she is caring for the enviorment,
What i was happy to see is that there is not a overall enviormental message in the movie, even though the movie seemed to steer to one with the back and forth between the oldest son and the girl.
The best Actors in the movie are the tornado's the twisters, they look more realistic then the ones we saw in twister and that might throw some people off as they do not look as good as the ones in twister.
The movie tends to fall flat in the more calm scenes where we learn some things about the mother of the sons, but as we don't really "bond"With them , the info felt more as a filler of plot holes then actually helping with the plot.
The movie does not really surprise, and does what it is supposed to do, give use 89 minutes to enjoy and see mother nature "Rip us a new one"
This is why i ranked the movie 7 stars, it does what it promises and gives you a good time, and a good old fashioned Disastermovie that doesn't get preachy and is not stretched to thin, the short running time was one of my main concerns but the movie is just long enough for it to stay entertaining.
So if you want 89 minutes of entertainment Into the storm is the movie for that rainy night, the tornado's come best to their right on the big screen but for a movie i would suggest get it on netflix.
De poel (2014)
De Poel , the future of dutch horror looks promising.
Two Fathers go on a camping trip and take their families in tow , when they set up camp in a restriced nature reservation at the side of a small pond (poel) things quickly start to unravel. The premise of this movie is simple and the way it is brought is also simple. The Netherlands are not known for their stellar horror movies , where de lift( remade into down) was the most known one. This is the first movie from the This is not a problem tough, the movie assumes the viewer will piece things together that is a nice change from the overly explaining and " See what i discovered" things that plague most horror movies. When the movie was over the people in front of me left after saying "What a vague movie" but i did not find it vague at all, in the end i pieced together what had happened and the only trouble i had with the movie was explained to me later by the creators on their facebook. The food got spoiled or destroyed, and the puddle would not let them leave, something that made me wonder why. but the most clear answer is simple, the puddle did this to get them to go desperate. The story starts as a slow burn but sadly shows the evil of the puddle a little to soon, a little more guessing would have been nice Sure what would happen could be guessed while the movie was playing, but this is a first movie from the house of nether horror, and for a first attempt this is a great movie. And if this movie is the quality of movies that they will keep making all i can say is the future of dutch horror looks promising.
I certainly recommend this movie, but how much i liked it , the movie does not feel like a cinema movie so if you do go to see it see it on DVD, stream or even on demand.
Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009)
i just wasted 86 minutes
OK this movie is horrid, the characters are annoying , the story has a slow build and no pay off. The plot makes not much sense. and that is the good things about the movie.
Paul from the first movie somehow seems to have " survived" the ordeal of the first movie, and for some reason stumbles somewhere only to be hit by a school bus . the focus of the movie is than set at this school, where they are going to have a prom, and for some reason have a lot of popular brand bottled water that is infected with the flesh eating virus on speed of the first movie.
there is a lot of unneeded sex and nudity in this movie that does nothing for the story, like the to be prom king getting paid to have sex with the school plus sized girl.
did the virus take slow effect in the first movie in this one it is going full throttle .
as the prom turns into a bloody endeavor these guys in trucks come in and start shooting every one even if they are not infected, a reason why is never given, i am telling you this to safe you from the waste of time i endured, if you are a fan of bad acting , unneeded gore , annoying characters and a story that makes no sense at all go ahead and watch it.
i am a b movie lover but this was not b this was more like a z movie , plan 9 from outer space is better and that says enough.
Requiem (2001)
this is clearly a rip off
this movie is clearly a rip off from the usual suspects and reservoirs dogs.
scenes in the movie clearly point to wards that. the Pace in the movie is way to slow and the end just sucks i watched it 4 times and still did not get the ending . not gonna tell it because i would spoil it.
but this movie isn't as good as it sounds on the back oft he cover
the action was good but only the surprises were kinda stupid . there was some mind play and some action but not enough to satisfy me. some of the scenes in the prison hinted to something but they never used it. the movie clearly cant decide what it wanted to be action or thriller.
Legion of the Dead (2001)
from dusk till dawn recycled
this movie just made me sick to the bone. it is a sick attempt to create a from dusk till dawn kinda movie. it starts of as a road movie with the pshyco killer and then goes to a bar. hmm where did i see that before.? the humor was so bad it became horrible. the guys with two guns raised ready to go out side was just crap. the pretty female being an ugly but good alien ? ohw come on what were they thinking? and the end that it all as a dream ohw please . so if you like to mess up you're day watch this movie. if u like crap that is more crap than crap watch this one and you will have a blast. and to be honest the box is better than the movie and that says enough for me .
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)
grabs you by the balls but not that firm
dodgeball was a unique some what cool movie. there were enough funny things to laugh on. the pilot guy with his "if you can dodge traffic you can dodge a ball "and stuff was just cool to look at. Ben stiller's wife acting to be disgusted by him that was so great and funny that i think doctor Phil will be seeing them soon. the ugly Russian woman thingie was just so scary that she became some what funny.
the fat Ben at the end was just great and fun to look at. to be honest i would have licked the alternate ending where they actually loose from the cobras. that would have been a kick of for a sequel.
i just can say watch this movie and enjoy. no popcorn present.
White Chicks (2004)
some hard laughs
i rented this movie because i wanted some mindless entertainment. this movie surprised me for being rather hilarious. i have to admit some jokes were so cliché that it became a bit painful to look at. the sister thinking that there cloned and almost making an entire x files theory was just funny to look at. the öhw you want to talk about mothers"part was just annoying. and the girl freaking out bout how she looked was also much to long to be any fun . the first scene was in my opinion the worst the two singing Spanish guys was crap. the ice cream man saved the scene a bit.
didn't ate popcorn but i think i would have ate an entire box through the entire movie.
Ghost Lake (2004)
worked batter as a mini series
great movie.but they want to tell the story in to short a time. would this movie be made a miniseries it would have got better. 4 part mini series or even a two part miniseries with the combined length of 6 hours would have made the story much more like able. also i think that they did not enough with the sunken city. i for one would have loved a a diving scene within in the sunken city. this does not mean it is a bad movie. the things they did with the Lil twin girls was sublime and very surprising. the end was also a thing i could smile about because i did not expect it to be that way.
movie is bad for popcorn only ate half a microwave bag during the movie.
House of Wax (2005)
to much blah blah and to fast kill kill
i did like some of the killings in house of wax. but why did they have to go so fast? there is to much in front of the actual story that it annoyed me. in my opinion die the teenagers a bit to fast and is the end a bit to fast also. furthermore i have to say this movie Had a lot of potential but made only up a bit of it.
to bad. the lip gluing that was a great find that gave me the shivers. and when his foot got cut damn that was whack. i did like th part with him sitting all wax behind the piano and his friend peeling it of and the masked guy running with the knife slicing it open to the jaw.
the movie is a popcorn killer i ate threw a big basket in just one half. not many horror movies do that.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
dawn of the dead 2004
well i just loved this remake , how ever the original is better.
the thing i like the most is the short movie clips at the end of the movie. BIG SPOILER Coming ON. did they all die or did i just saw Kenneth run off? but he was lying on he pier right. what happened to the rest. was that guy who liked Lindy booth(hey who couldn't) still filming went htose zombies attacked him? but the fact is i saw someone running of. in my opinion there are 2 options 1: the one is still alive and run of OR 2:the one running of is dead and is following another survivor(please let it be Lindy booth)
so this could mean one thing Sequel or just TEASER which i don't hope . if there would be a sequel; it would have to be day of the dead(not the best part in the original trilogy but the most gored one)
I'm wondering what the remake would look like from that one. than weed have the original trilogy and the remake trilogy(because night of the living dead got a remake as well )
but for dawn of the dead 2 thumbs (one in my mouth but who is paying attention to that ?) and I'm still striping the DVD to get all the info on the end ass possible
Disappearance (2002)
OK rewind look again and still missing it
i watched this movie. the back of the DVD didn't gave much info and the picture on the front was bit deluding. the movie shows a whole lot of potential .
the end however lacks this. the movie throws up a whole lot off hits but doesn't hit the ball. I'm starting to hope on a kinda remake where they make it all over again (made all over again not like remake) or a sequel (wich i am making right now in my mind.)
so if anybody has some good ideas or some one gets the ending feel free to email me and have a nice discussion. because i love to know how other people think about the ending and if they had the same ideas i had when looking this potential good movie.
