Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
Unforgettable
Not the best movie, not the best plot, but for a strange reason this movie keeps lingering in my memory like an old lover. The music is superb, Ennio Morricone at his best.
Mully (2015)
If I had to guess...
If I had to guess I would say that Mully is happier than all the billionaires in the world combined. My toes started curling when God's name was brought up again and again (I am an atheist), but I am glad I got to finish this inspirational documentary.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
It could've been much better!
I liked:
1. The plot premise
2. The costumes
3. The setup
4. The plot
I disliked:
1. The acting is over exaggerated
2. Very minimal character development, the majority are unidimensional
3. Laughable reactions from most characters
4. Many scenes with screaming characters, can't they talk normally?
50/50 (2011)
Boring
I can't spend much time on this review, the movie was bad enough.
Fauda (2015)
It degrades over time
Season 1 was a refreshing outlook of the Middle East conflict. The plot seemed honest, raw, and real. As an spectator I felt emotionally involved with both sides.
Season 2 was a little predictable, it looks like the writer wanted to repeat the same formula, perhaps to keep milking the cash cow. I felt a little manipulated, but I kept watching just to see how the plot was going to be resolved.
Season 3? I couldn't get past the first episode. I just couldn't buy the plot twist, and I was not willing to spend any additional emotional energy in this show. Sorry producers, you lost me.
La casa de papel (2017)
Highly Addictive!
Let's make a cocktail, ingredients: action, romance, politics, police, camaraderie, friendship, betrayal, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, a smart plot, memorable music, superb acting, amazing writing, people's resistance, dreams, remorse, happiness, money, thrill, love, emotion, passion, stupidity, brilliance.. let's call it La Casa de Papel. The best cocktail you might ever have, utterly delicious... but be careful, it's addictive, highly addictive!!
Gisaengchung (2019)
Overrated
From the first scene this movie reminded me of Almodovar, but without the required intelligent effort to make it a credible story. Metaphorical? Yes and no, that's where they lost me. The pace seems fast, but then I found myself wanting to fast forward a number of times, since the overly simplistic plot turn into absurd rather too quickly. If this is the best movie of the year then Hollywood has a very serious problem.
The Sopranos (1999)
Very disappointing!
I thought that I should give it a try to a show that is 9.2 rated. I regret the day that I made that decision. The producers found a successful formula to feed the masses: gangsters, profanity, sex, gluttony, loyalty, betrayal... From the first episode this show reminded me of a soap opera. There's no plot, there's no story development, the uni-dimensional characters don't evolve, nothing happens.
I demand more from my entertainment time, this show does not deliver for me in any way.
Otchiy bereg (2017)
Superb!
From the first scene you feel attracted to this charming, moving, dramatic story. The plot flows smoothly, the acting is magnificent, the scenery is breathtaking... I am on Ch 10 and loving every minute of it.
Stranger Things (2016)
1, 2, 3...good bye!
I couldn't finish S1E1, I am not going to waste one more minute with this lame third season. Adios!!!
Good Omens (2019)
Awful
Can't keep watching episode 2, I tried really hard to like it but... I can't connect in anyway with the plot, the humor is so witty that is not even funny. Sorry, but I am not going to waste my time on this series.
Manifest (2018)
Quickly degrading
Great start, promising plot, but the writers ran dry of fresh ideas, too bad! 9 out of 10 characters are unwatchable, it's just too soapy! The calling, the calling,.... I will soon put them on the no-call list if they don't dramatically improve!
The Man in the High Castle (2015)
Unwatchable
The subject itself is a turn off, still, I gave it a go hoping to find some redeeming values. The characters, all of them, are too cliche, undeveloped. All characters are unidimensional, the bad are bad and the good are dark and sinister. The plot is full of holes, in an age when communications are poor the Nazis and the Japanese have immediate knowledge of every that happens anywhere. The acting is below par, the dialogs are overly simplistic, etc, etc, etc. I don't think that I will be able to finish episode 5.
Strokes of Genius (2018)
Extraordinary.
We are lucky to witness one of the best rivalries in sports history, any sport. The documentary is not just Nadal vs Federer, but about unforgettable tennis rivalries, it is about what mental strength is required to achieve greatness, it is about respect for your opponent, it s about the motivation that each player exerts on the other player.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Adios TWD!
They've lost me, the producers have lost me. How many times can they recycle the same plot? This is no longer humanity vs zombies, this is humans vs humans with a unnecessary dose of violence and twisted psyche, all for the sake of maintaining ratings and milking the cash cow. The writers creativity have been depleted for a few seasons now, there has been no direction, no gradual learning, no story development. All the physical moving around is just the illusion of story to mask the fact that there isn't a story being told at all. The show isn't going anywhere. I have stopped watching, and I feel liberated from this burden of a show. TWD has slowly decomposed into a gross, unintelligent TV show. Who keeps making gas, electricity... but then there's no radio communication... What happened to the military, the government, smart people, common sense... I understand the appeal for certain demographics, but I, for once, demand more from entertainment than this garbage, good bye!!!
Falling Skies (2011)
Very weak effort
Promising premise, poor plot development.
If an alien civilization decides to invade planet Earth, I would expect them to be immensely more advanced in many aspects: intelligence, biology, technology, socially, militarily, etc. Instead they throw at us dumb creatures resembling giant spiders, who can't deal with our primitive guns. There are no redeeming qualities in this TV show: the acting is below par, the plot is unrealistic and plagued with holes, the special effects are average, the characters are too stiff, and on and on. Now, in season 4, they are turning humans against humans to spice up the boring plot, well, i don't buy it anymore, I am out.
Orange Is the New Black (2013)
Quickly Degrading
Season 1 was a refreshing experience. An innocent educated woman sentenced to jail makes up for a great story to tell. The plot is centered around Piper's troubles and tribulations in dealing with her new life as an inmate, it made me curious enough to watch the whole season, and I liked it. Season 1 turned out to be very successful, the dramatic/comic entertainment value was undeniable.
Season 2.
Eager to cash in in their success, the producers must have felt the need to extend the life of the series. Their approach is to develop circumstantial characters as part of the main plot. Risky business!
So, we are no longer following Piper, but a bunch of other uninteresting characters that completely change the entertaining tempo of season 1. The intent is to slow down the show in order to cash in their success. The problem is that they have transformed an interesting story into an inmates soap opera. They attempt to provide continuity by maintaining a similar comical approach to rough situations, and by the already established sexual tensions, mainly on the lesbian side.
I watched season 1 in 2 days, but I can't watch back to back season 2 episodes, I have lost a lot of interest as I feel manipulated by a degrading plot that no longer appeals to me at any level. I am half way into season 2, and I doubt that I will finish it.
