Moonfall (2022)
Fantastic fun.
Ignore all the hyper critical reviews. Yes, it's nonsense, but it's bloody good fun nonsense and is really surprising. Turn your brain off, grab some popcorn and enjoy on the biggest screen you have. It was just what I needed tonight, pure escapism. And sometimes nothing can do that like a big movie like this. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
The most unfairly rated movie on IMDb?
Whilst it doesn't have the same hi speed chases etc, this is a very enjoyable action/disaster movie in its own right. And as the title says it's gotta be one of the most unfairly rated on IMDb.
The Ice Road (2021)
The bad reviews have me baffled.
I don't tend to write many reviews, but the incredibly negative ones for this have made me write this. I found it to be exciting, thrilling and in parts touching. Some amazing stunt truck driving and incredible scenery, shot really well. Neesons is great as always, it was thoroughly enjoyable, and like many such films, daft in parts. But it's not trying to be an Oscar winner. Sit back and enjoy and don't overthink it.
Rose (2020)
Had me shouting what the ****?! Loads, but in a good way.
Absolute gem of a movie. Like I said had me shouting what the ****?! On several occasions. In parts tense, scary, and surprisingly tender with really good heart. Avoid spoilers, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Much better than it's score would suggest.
Jane Got a Gun (2015)
Much better than its rating suggests.
I simply can't get why its rating is so low. It's brilliantly done with a great, emotional and engaging story. Beautifully shot with a stellar cast. Portman is at once heartbreaking and inspiring, as is Edgerton.. One of the best westerns since Open Range, I loved it.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
The most epic superhero movie ever made.
Like him or loathe him, but this was beautiful. I'm a comic nerd from a kid, and I've loved Marvel since then, so I'm not just a Snyder fanboy. But the journey from man of steel (I never thought Superman's theme from Williams could be bettered) but my word is it awesome. The extended BvS was butchered and then joss whedon made a terrible movie. And by the sounds of things was not exactly a top guy. But this movie, was beyond expectations. The greatest cast that I think will be difficult to beat, in the most beautiful, epic, emotional and wonderful superhero movie I've ever seen. People complain about the slow mo, but when you've gods and hero's moving faster than we could see, it makes sense and creates quite brilliant on screen art. Give yourself the time and space to watch it in its entirety. Each hero is incredible, and Cyborg's story becomes so important it's easy to see why he was so hurt it was all cut out.
Perfect. (Screen ratio aside). And if they don't finish the story and finish an arc with Cavill, it would be such a waste. They are the Justice League, and as a man in his 40's watching this, I've never been happier watching a superhero movie.
The Prince (2014)
Certain set of skills.
Yeah it's a bit of a taken clone and a bit of a by the numbers actioner. But lots of people like simple action movies like that and I'm one of them. Bruce is doing his usual dial in, but Patrick is really good in the lead. I can't believe speed 2 did his career so much harm, because I think he's an excellent actor and a very good leading man. Turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is. (Also speed 2 is nowhere near as bad as its rating).
Robin Hood (2010)
Watch the director's cut.
The director's cut is a far superior movie and one of my all time favourites. It's much more cohesive as well as having more 'Robin Hood' stuff. It's just a shame we never got a sequel as the theatrical cut was butchered (as so many under performing movies are) by execs wanting a quicker movie to get more showings in cinemas. Russell Crowe also makes a fantastic battle hardened and weary Robin, Cate Blanchett is a wonderful Marian and the rest of the cast are fantastic, especially his Merry men. Peppered throughout with phrases like 'the more the merrier' this is a more realistic take on the legend, and if you watch the proper version, one of its finest. It's a shame there wasn't a sequel.
American Ninja 4: The Annihilation (1990)
An old favourite
No one else watched these movies and expects them to be good. They're awful, but brilliant and I adore them. Travelling as a kid from London to Ireland every summer, brought fresh marvels as the video store, with a mere note from my sister, would allow me any 18 movie (apart from the real naughty stuff). The year I walked down to the store and saw that there was a part 4, with BOTH ninjas in it blew my mind. Currently watching it on Blu ray. Not for everyone, in fact not more most, but I love it.
