Uneasy and uncomfortable the whole time.
23 April 2024
I suspect my title is the point. We weren't supposed to enjoy this movie. It made me uneasy and uncomfortable. The characters being blasé living next to such horrors was disturbing. I know the academy loves flashy performances but this should have been Sandra huller's nomination. 'Anatomy of a fall' didn't do it for me like this film did. Like the weirdo I am, I'd watch this multiple times. It's THAT good. I imagine the only next worse thing is visiting Auschwitz. The characters were so wonderful in their lack of caring except the husband who gains some humanity. Really heartbreaking when That happens. Definitely an important film to watch.

I'm gonna have nightmares about that prosecutor.
23 April 2024
I'm a video editor screenwriter but I always wanted to go into law. I always thought maybe I'd be a stenographer. If I have to hear prosecutor's like that though, IM GOOD. I'm gonna have nightmares about that dude and how far he was reaching. I'm convinced he's a flat earther. ANYWAY, I don't see the big deal about this movie, 'the zone of interest' was WAY better. If it was supposed to keep us guessing, it failed. Im on team 'husband did you know what' cause seriously what other explanation is there? The movie was way too long AND FELT that way. 'The zone of interest' flies right by. Anyway in my opinion this isn't an ambiguous movie. Smart kid though.

It was better when it was called 'the proposal'.
26 December 2023
I love Nina dobrev but I had never heard of this movie until my cousin told me about it because we're Costa Rican and so is the director. There's not a lot to say about this movie expect it's predictable AF and you've seen a funnier version before. It's called 'the proposal'. They're not a lot I can write about this movie because ira cliche. The only thing I can say is I wish the ending was different. It felt like 'my best friends wedding' where you feel like they ended up with the wrong person. And why is every protagonist a journalist? Get new ideas and get creative hollywood! We've seen these movies before!

My favorite of the 'Ferrari' movies.
30 November 2023
I know it's about Enzo but it's my favorite of the 'Ferrari' movies. 'Ford Vs Ferrari' didn't do it for me. It's not my favorite racing movie which is 'rush' but it's quite good. We don't know the personal side to the Ferrari's and as someone with a birth defect, I felt sympathy for them losing their son to muscular dystrophy and I know how hard that is on a marriage. Enzo had an affair because Lina didn't demand anything of him. The racing parts were confusing but shocking. I had to look up the events. I disagree with the viewer who insulted the racing though. It looked good to me. I recommend purely based on the story I don't think anyone knows!

I had to watch a rom com to wash my eyes.

Warning: Spoilers
The trope is a tired one. Poor friend jealous of rich friend and thus finds a way to force themselves into a disturbing level. You've seen 'talented mr. Ripley' so this film won't shock you with its plot, but getting there is all kinds of unnecessary. When you're at an industry screening and people are groaning in disgust, you've gone too far. I will give props for the twist at the end as this movie is being 'told' but it's not really worth the squirming to sit through to find out. Emerald fennel is just kind of sick honestly. 'Promising young woman' was disturbing and you won't find solace in this either.

Don't even watch on Netflix.
26 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film as a preview screening and was absolutely bored out of my skull. It's completely unrealistic that an apocalypse of sorts would be happening and you've got a 'guess who's coming to dinner' situation going on. I saw the film last night at the AFI premiere hoping it was better. It was not. I can't blame it if the book is just as bad but it just doesn't have its priorities in order. You wouldn't be arguing about race when the world is falling apart. The movie doesn't make any sense, there's no pay off. It's basically a waste of a really good cast. I don't even recommend watching when it comes out on Netflix.

Had to watch a second time just to understand what happened.
17 August 2023
I went to an early preview screening of this. Yeah it was cool watching on a big screen but didn't make it less of a mess. The only reason I'm watching it again is to understand it. That's how big of a mess it is. I don't know how you can go wrong with gal gadot, Alia bhatt and Jamie dornan but they did it. I don't know how I'm going to fill a character limit with how bad this movie is. It just is. It's convoluted, tries it be cool with its twists, filled with exposition. It's a mess. Literally written for the lowest common denominator.

If you want background noise, go ahead but don't expect a cohesive story and that's a shame with this cast.

Convoluted retelling of same old corruption story.
13 August 2023
I understand the irony of me giving this review in 2023 when so many movies like This have come out since 2006 and so of course I'm going to feel like I've seen this before, but it's especially sad considering it's a remake. It should have been left alone. It had nothing fresh and new to add and was confusing as hell. I also never realized how much DiCaprio and Damon look alike until my mom kept confusing their storylines. 🤣 definitely glad DiCaprio got the oscar push for 'blood diamond' instead. Way better film. Although I will say part of what was putting me off to seeing this film for so long was 'the violence' and there wasn't a lot really. I mean maybe I define violence differently and what I think is violence is actually torturing someone but everyone just getting shot? I was good.

Warning: Spoilers
There's a reason this movie has been kept super under wraps-it's a biography most of all and not even an interesting one. I don't want to spoil but it centers on an event where they don't leave the room. Yes flashbacks and other things happen but this is not epic Christopher Nolan. Extremely disappointing. It's hard to Go on about a movie that really wasn't good but what was most disappointing was the waste of talent. There's a certain oscar winner that is basically a glorified extra until his big moment at the end. It almost felt like Nolan asked his friends to be in a movie and came up with a script after. Don't rush to a theater. Do not recommend.

Worth it for Keaton and affleck alone.
16 June 2023
I saw a preview screening of this film and mostly enjoyed it. Call it nostalgia but I saw it for affleck and Keaton. If you think about the controversy surrounding Miller, he IS a good actor because he acts totally normal in this film. The movie ventures off course in the middle of the second act and early third act. It's like they forgot their original point/purpose. The movie did feel long that way. I hate to say it but one of the characters felt unnecessary. It's a good enough film but you feel its length for sure. It's too long. But it was funny. For someone not really into superhero movies it wasn't bad.

The Batman (2022)

Didn't even finish.
13 June 2023
I'm admittedly not a batman fan. I've seen all the movies up to the Nolan trilogy. Keaton is the GOAT batman. Still, I watched this with my sister and brother in law and ALL OF US turned it off. What a bore and SO LONG! I don't even think I can make a long enough review to satisfy requirements because I just don't have enough to say except Pattinson is an awful Batman and the movie was forgettable. I just mentioned to a friend Barry Keogh should replace Ezra miller in 'the flash' and she said he was the new joker. If that was mentioned in this movie, I didn't catch it. That's how boring it was. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

People are being way too harsh.
19 May 2023
If this movie had been made when Rodriguez first thought of it, Nobody would be crapping on it. It is a very good movie, it's just not wholly original. Despite that, I thought it was executed very well. I didn't see the ending coming and was very shocked/impressed. I liked that it's an amalgamation of movies that have come before it. I also think affleck and Braga played their roles well of playing innocent before the twist comes. I have a learning disorder so I appreciated the exposition but I can see how others felt dumbed down. I think people under appreciate affleck's subtle acting but I'm also one that prefers scarecrow as a Batman villain to joker.

Not sure what people's problem is.
13 May 2023
I love j-lo's rom com but I was lucky enough to attend The premiere of this film. It was so so amazing. It looked like a big screen movie and I'm so glad I got to see it that way. Watching it with an audience, we laughed, we cried, We cheered. Did the film need two baddies? No probably not but that's really the worst I can say about the film. I can't go Into detail or I'll spoil but I loved the tough love j-lo's character gave her daughter to survive. It was really touching in the end. I will say there was some incompetence at the beginning of the film which is why the mother even has to step in, but you know, c'est la vie. I also wanna give props to Lucy paez. She was incredible! Teenagers in these films can be whiny and bratty. I actually felt for her. She didn't ask for the price on her head. Anyway really great film! Please check it out!

Unexpectedly good
19 April 2023
I'm a little biased to this film because I met Matt Damon and Jennifer Lopez on the set when it was filming last year. That being said, I went to the film's premiere (nothing scares you like walking out of the bathroom and j-lo just chilling on a stool) it's a really great film. It makes you feel good and it was REALLY FUNNY. I wasn't expecting that. I'm not a sports person so I thought it'd be bored out of my skull but the film is more about family, as michael's mother was a big defender of everything that happened. Matt Damon's character has this incredible speech at the end that was so moving I cried. I really hope come awards time this film isn't forgot about. I have always wondered why Damon hasn't received an acting oscar. He definitely deserves it for this one. The movie itself? 8/10. My bias? 10/10.

Very low standards
25 February 2023
To be honest I think this movie is getting so hyped because people didn't think Brendan Fraser could act. Is it a career best performance? Maybe but that's not saying much. You do feel empathy for charlie, especially because the characters that surround him are pretty horrendous. No one feels any empathy or sympathy that lead to his condition. I suffer depression and I recognized the depression that lead to the condition charlie is in. Despite whatever mistakes he may have made. He didn't deserve the treatment he got. There's a specific line in the film I related to and burst into tears. That being said, otherwise I'm Not seeing the hype of this movie. Sure, it's not the worst of the year (that honor belongs to banshees) but I'm really honestly not seeing these amazing performances everyone is talking about, unless the purpose was to hate them so much, you wish they were the ones dying.

It tried!
13 February 2023
I grew up with boy meets world and am lucky to call Michael jacobs an acquaintance so I had to support this film, but it was very odd. Like someone else said, it was almost like it was meant to be a play. The plot is basic enough. A couple try to decide if they're meant to be together forever and marry so they bring in their parents. Problem is the parents have been cheating on each other. With each other. It was hilarious at first, especially when everyone all arrived at dinner together, but it slowly unravels. Emma roberts character and her boyfriend basically just disappear from the film at one point. The movie just becomes everyone having inner dialogues, with each other. The movie goes in so many circles and Michael can't seem to decide what he wants to say ultimately. Sadly I can't recommend it. Such a waste of a talented cast too.

Hilarious bonkers fun!
29 January 2023
I knew this movie looked bananas from the trailers a few months ago and it absolutely was! I had the pleasure of attending the premiere so seeing it on the big screen was even better! It is hilarious and quotable! The chemistry between everyone is great, the plot was different from Jennifer Lopez's normal rom-com's (this is action comedy) Ryan Reynolds was originally supposed to play Josh duhamel's part and is still a producer so when you consider that, you know it's gonna be a good time! The best part is it's got a great twist about 3/4 of the way in! It was just hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing. Cannot recommend enough!

Benefits from its dilemma.
4 December 2022
There's two movies about sexual assault this year-this and the Harvey Weinstein based 'she said'. I found 'she Said' To be like watching 'spotlight' all over again. It didn't add anything new to the conversation. This does because of its nuances. It's easy to make a 'sexual assault bad' movie but this movie grapples within a religious faith based community where things aren't so black and white. I loved how all the characters represented all points of view-doing something about it, say nothing, etc. I love all the main cast-Claire foy, Jessie Buckley, Rooney Mara. Really great film done subtly on an important subject.

A great film with Great payoff!
25 November 2022
I'm seeing complaints this film was slow. After seeing 'the banshees of irisherin' And 'the son' where there was no pay off, this film was a breath of fresh air. It didn't feel slow to me at all. It kept me intrigued and I wasn't let down. I knew there had to be a reason the child was behaving like this, and they gave it, unlike 'banshees' and 'the son' that just have characters throwing fits for no reason for two hours. Suspenseful film that brings up a lot of interesting questions, especially at the time when faith/religion and medicine were fighting. (Still are, i suppose) Super recommend! Also funny story, I'm so used to Florence playing an American, her British accent confused me! And I just met her last week! 🤣

I found myself on the stepmothers side.
6 November 2022
I'm officially old enough that I found myself on the stepmothers side. When an almost adult is behaving like such a child, you've just got to get on with life and ignore his whims. I suffer depression myself but I should add a disclaimer that I have a birth defect and disabled. I realized this film makes me have a hard time with empathy. I have actual problems, this kid was behaving like a brat. At some point, his father should have given up and focused on the new family he was neglecting. I kept waiting for this film to give me a reason to care about this kid and it just didn't. Wonderful performances by the adults concerned about their kid, it just wasn't warranted after a while. Add to that the very colossal mistake they made that turns this film into a real tragedy, you've got a mess on your hands. Hugh Hackman deserves the oscar for this film. He really did the best he could with the material as a father fighting for his son really hard, but I'm just not sure the whole picture is worth seeing.

Eddie Redmayne is coming for that second oscar!
27 October 2022
I saw this film two weeks ago at a screening with Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne. I'm disabled and have been a fan of Redmayne's Since his deserved oscar winning performance in 'the theory of everything'. I've had the pleasure of meeting him and he's one of the kindest gentlest souls. In this movie, he scared me half to death! His performance was phenomenal! I have always preferred subtle villains to over the top performances like Heath ledger in 'the dark knight'. Redmayne delivers here. He's absolutely chilling in this performance! I met him again after a screening and he was so kind and sweet and I told him he scared me half to death and he apologized. 2nd best film of the year, after 'thirteen lives' but I sadly don't think that film will get acting oscars. Redmayne would be well deserved for his second one here.

What did I just watch?
23 October 2022
I can't for the life of me understand the praise of this movie. Saw it at a film festival to see what the fuss was about and glad I didn't pay for it because what utter trash. The main character acted like a spoiled, petulant child who wouldn't talk to or communicate with his 'best friend'. What does it say about a person that can change their mind about you one day to the next? I understood the message of a mid life crisis and suddenly feeling like you've done nothing with your life but this was just insanity. Can't say I'm surprised. It's by the same writer/director of 'three billboards' and that was just awful. Colin Ferrell Is a great actor but not here. He just acted confused for two hours. I really hope they're not Serious with this oscar talk. If they are, I'm Going to pretend Colin's is for 'phone booth', still to date his best work.

Glad I saw it in a theater.
20 October 2022
I went to the premiere of this film last night. First off I'm so glad I saw it in a theater because it's visually STUNNING. That being said, once you have time to sit and marinate on the story, the mythology IS confusing. There's a twist at the end but I couldn't begin to explain it to you, they lost me so much. Usually star studded casts like this spell disaster and while I wouldn't go quite that far, I can't imagine what compelled the cast to take this movie except for it was something their kids can see (which is also wrong. I don't recommend for anyone under 10) sweet cute movie but not a lot there sadly.

Good, could have been great.
26 August 2022
When I found out this was a book, I wasn't surprised. It has a story, just not a plot. Nothing really happens except a genie tells the story of the three times he was trapped in a bottle. The stories themselves are great and visually stunning but tying them back to elba and Swinton's characters is where the movie goes wrong. It just can't do it. Any present time scenes were just boring. Worth seeing because it's a beautiful movie, just don't try to understand why swinton's character was necessary.

Absolutely incredible!
31 July 2022
I saw The film at a preview screening with cast today. I implore you, if you can see this movie at a theater, please do so. The experience isn't the same. Really phenomenal film. It's from the perspective of the rescue mission, so be prepared about that. It was so intense and stressful to watch! You know the story but actually watching what happened is much worse. It's really heartbreaking at times. I thought I would cry more but I burst into tears at the end. I think they were tears of relief honestly. Lol I had been holding in so much stress. Everyone in the film did a phenomenal job and the character Viggo played, Rick, was at our screening. So much respect for This man and all the others who stayed calm under pressure! I only took a point away because the movie gets started practically right away And I would have liked a little more connection to the boys first. Maybe that was the point though.
