Excellent film, Excellent acting, Excellent production.
8 October 2023
This is a great movie and a great story. Extremely action-packed, and entertaining. All the actors in this film really shine and their characters are very believable. Gary Oldman and Kevin Costner really put in a great performance. This movie does not deserve all the negativity or bad reviews. Some folks complain that the concept or the plot is not believable, but if that's what's stopping you then that's a very lame excuse to give it bad marks. There are films out there today that are so over the top and ridiculous, compared to this top notch thriller. There's a lot of horrible movies out there and this isn't one of them. If you gave it a bad review in the beginning, please give it a second viewing and another chance.

Completely Entertaining and Top Notch Acting.
21 September 2023
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, but I have to agree with several other reviewers, that I think we could have done without Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' during a great love scene. It just didn't fit where it was placed, nor the tone of the film whatsoever. It should have just been left out completely. There's enough songs in this movie, and it definitely didn't need that one.

Anyway, I'm really glad that Zack Snyder didn't hold back on some of the gore graphics or adult scenes. This movie could have been 4 hours long, maybe done in two parts, and I don't think anybody would have complained.

Especially as the years go by, the appreciation for films seems to get better with age, and that's what we're seeing here. Fleshed out characters, following a great storyline, and seeing some great acting only makes you wanting more. Zach really accomplished quite a bit to make this fantastic graphic novel into a fine movie. Not easy to do these days.

Excellent film, excellent story, superb acting.
18 August 2023
It amazes me how some people just don't understand this film or the storyline. I guess some folks just don't get it. I'm not going to explain it to you, either. If you can't figure this one out then you are truly lost. Because you are either brainwashed into 'over the top' action thrill rides, or totally immune and unappreciative of a science fiction drama. If it's too slow paced for you, then that's a real shame. Because I think it's a great movie, superbly acted, and well executed. The story is thought provoking, disturbing in the implications, and almost frightening to what is happening to the crew. I loved the interactions of how these characters are trying to cope. I always find myself drawn to this film and I have fallen in love with the music soundtrack by Cliff Martinez. If you've only seen this movie once, Please give it a second look.

The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Season 1, Episode 3
10/10
Simply incredible. The final song by Linda Ronstadt.
24 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to comment on the music. Hearing Linda Ronstadt's sweet voice, singing one of her most tender songs at the end of this episode was the icing on the cake. It couldn't have been more perfect and it couldn't have been more appropriate. (This episode encompassed so much humanity and so much hardship. Incredibly heartfelt and touching to say the least. It's a testament to the human spirit). I'm just glad that somebody finally remembered Linda's music and her beautiful voice. It's about time that a show used one of her songs. And for that I'm very grateful. Anyway, that's all I had to say.

EXPLOSIVE AND CAPTIVATING.
20 July 2023
First of all, this show just gets better and better. Superman, Lois, their boys, and everyone else is lives get intertwined, and the story line just gets better and better. The writing and the production of this program is top notch. It's not like any other CW series at all. This is in a class all by itself. The acting is great and believable. The special effects are nothing short of excellent. I think a lot of love and care went into the making of this show and it really shows. When Lois Lane fears for the life of one of her kids, and starts to choke up and cry, It really tugs at your heart. I give this episode a solid 10 because it's that darn good!! As things start to unravel, hang on to your seat!

Finally, somebody's doing it right.
16 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had my doubts, but after the first, second, and especially the third episode I was pretty much hooked. What really stands out about this show is the excellent writing of these episodes. Clark and Lois are raising their sons in Smallville, and it's a realistic, challenging effort but there is also a lot of caring and love that bonds them together. (In my eyes This is a value greatly lacking in television today). There are no stereotypes in this show. Each character is real and has their problems, weaknesses, as well as strengths. The Production on all levels of this series is fantastic and the special effects are top notch. I think they made the right choice in picking the actors and actresses for these characters. I'm sold.

That boy needs to quit singing!
6 June 2022
I wish someone would shoot Billy Tillerson or throw him into that 'giant hole' in the ground, so we don't have to listen to him sing anymore... Every time that boy opens his mouth, I want to shove his dad's precious rock (that Wayne has a death grip on) into that crooners pie hole.

The show does have some interesting moments though. Maybe we are all over anxious to see how all these little twists and turns are somehow connected.

I guess I will give it time to get better.

Superb acting and story!
18 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've really enjoyed every episode, especially this one! Toward the end, there is a funeral. You feel the loss and the pain of a fellow Warder who has committed suicide.

The sadness was cruciating, and I couldn't help but tear up, along with Moraine, who's watching her Warder in a moment of painful grief.

My gosh - the acting in the show is fantastic.

It's better than what you think.

This is something new and different, with an excellent story. Most people have Avengers stuck in their head and you have to throw that memory aside. This film is so much better than what people give a credit for. Watch it a second time if you have to but give it the credit it deserves.

Dune (2021)

Loud, Obnoxious soundtrack
17 November 2021
Okay, I enjoyed the film a lot. And I have listened to many many soundtracks over the past 40 years. But this soundtrack was so loud and so intrusive during certain scenes that it completely ruined the experience.

I expected more (or should I say 'less') from Hans Zimmer, but this auditory 'in your face' approach of loud noise got to be very obnoxious. In fact there were times when I wish there was NO music at all because there was just too much of it.

It's unfortunate because we've heard better from Hans (Interstellar, Bladerunner 2049, etc.) and of course other composers as well. I really wish a different composer had been picked.

Yes, there were areas where the music was perfect but it didn't have to be so overbearing that it made cringe and want to cover your ears, especially during the fantastic battle scenes.

Graeme Revell's musical masterpiece from 'Frank Herbert's Dune' (2000) was stunning and beautiful. And the music from the original Dune 1984 movie, performed by the band Toto (and a classic short piece by Brian Eno) is perhaps quite possibly the BEST Dune soundtrack ever produced.

Perhaps these 'new' composers now have too many minions doing their work for them, and have gotten too big for their britches.

This Dune 2021 soundtrack was a disgrace to an otherwise excellent film. What a disappointment.

Horror in the EC tradition!
5 May 2021
I absolutely agree with the review from bourenst in 2004. Zane's performance is not to be missed along with Sadler. Horror that's entertaining and fun, in the EC tradition! I wouldn't change one thing about this film. Make some popcorn and enjoy!

Classic film from my childhood!

I totally agree with Martin Hafer's review from 2011. I remember watching this on TV when I was a kid. This movie really freaked me out!

One Step Beyond (1959–1961)
10/10
The first and the best paranormal / supernatural television dramas.
19 July 2020
From 1959 to 1961 John Newland brought you the show "One Step Beyond". This program came nine months before the Twilight Zone (the two shows cannot be compared) and no doubt inspired all the shows that have transpired since. This program dealt with paranormal / supernatural stories that were based on actual occurrences that can neither be explained nor disproven. On a limited budget, host and director John Newland would present to you (with skill and finesse) fine dramas that were expertly acted out and wonderfully written. This is a program that is not to be missed. Put aside your criticisms of the video quality of what was produced 60 years ago, and turn off the lights and get yourself some popcorn. Some episodes will make you think, while other episodes might make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. The music alone is eerie and haunting.

Watch Nick Adams and Mary Ann Mobley
16 July 2020
Ok, not a masterpiece, not perfect, and the music sucks. BUT if you are a fan of Nick Adams and Mary Mobley then this is interesting. I've taken a liking to Nick Adams a lot because he is a very good actor and was very well respected in Japan for doing a few Godzilla movies. (Seeing him and Kumi Mizuno together is wonderful in 'Invasion of Astro Monster'). So, set aside your criticisms and just enjoy the movie.

Compelling and Suspenseful. IMO.
29 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Most are critical of this film but I think it deserves better. This isn't the best film but it's not the worst either. I think the story is very good and it gets more suspenseful. Good acting and great direction. What stands out are the 'fade-outs to black' of certain scenes. Very few films use this, and it's done very well here. Enjoy this movie and watch what happens to Lance Henrickson!

The soundtrack gives me a headache.
11 February 2020
The music or soundtrack in the flick will give you a headache. Especially during the action scenes. It's like you're listening to an arcade game that is digitally messed up. It's so much better if you mute the sound completely. Ahh.. that's better... now if I could just gouge my eyes out.

Best adaptation yet.
23 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Remember - this was made in 1984, and they really did their homework on this one. I've seen worse movies, so I am grateful we have, at least, this version to make up for the garbage that preceded it. I think attention to detail and characters was a main concern. (You can't help but feel pain when an ape is killed, and you will rejoice when a British hunter gets that arrow through the neck). Rick Baker's work really shines in this film. Excellent acting by everyone. It has heart and compassion and a wonderful story. As a whole, I love this film.
