A fan's perspective
I started watching this show on DVD 2 years ago, just after the 2nd season had come to an end on television. A friend of mine gave me the dvdsets to watch and I loved it. I watched the first 2 seasons in less than 2 weeks. I was going through a rough time in my life and this show made me somewhat forget about my own sorrows and escape real life.
Besides that I simply loved it's story lines.
Offcourse the first season is a master piece. And yes, some things could never happen in real life, but who cares, it's a TV show!? I mean, I know Michael could never know Sara would fall for him, but like I said, it's a TV show. As if James Bond movies are realistic.
I know I'm not in the majority of the fans, but I loved the 2nd season even more than the first one. Probably because of the fact that our guys were on the run. We also learned more about most of them, about the relationships they had with their families, etc. In my opinion, S2 had one major flaw. I expected president Reynolds to be exposed big time at the end, but... sadly enough this storyline was messed up big time. Still, this was a great season with a very, very (at least to me) unexpected ending.
Then it was up to the 3rd season to keep us glued to our TV-screens. And I have to admit that at first I hated this season. I watched the first 2 eps of S3 and threw in the towel. To me the whole Sona thing was too much, also Sara's killing, these new people like Whistler and Gretchen... No, I just didn't buy it. Or at least I thought so... Last summer I started watching the other 2 seasons again and just had to know what would happen in S3 and since it was about to be released on DVD, I ordered my copy immediately. And guess what? I watched the whole season... TWO TIMES IN A ROW!!! This time around, almost a year after I tried watching it the first time, I loved it. I fell in love with Gretchen right away and all of sudden the whole Sona thing appealed to me very much. I guess I just wasn't ready for it the year before. I also wish the writer's strike never happened so the producers could have done with this season what they wanted to do with it in the first place. We can only dream can't we? But Gretchen... Man!! I think all you fans understand my obsession with her, right? And I'm a gay man, so it's not like she got me turned on, but... she's one of the best characters in the history of this show. I for one loved to hate her.
Then it was time for the 4th season. This season started very messy. The first episode dealt with too many things. But off course that was all because of the writers strike from the previous season. TPTB had too handle all the things they couldn't handle in the second half of the 3rd season, since there was no second half of that season! But if you ask me, after a weak first episode, the rest of the 4th season was phenomenal. Again there was a lot of character development, especially on Gretchen's character, a character I really loved by now and somehow began to understand. Also, I'm one of the few (I guess) who liked the development of Mike and Sara's relationship. And did this season had some surprises for us!! Mike's mom? The fact about the 'brothers'? Need I say more???
I for one was very satisfied. Okay I have to admit I didn't like the fact that Michael died in the end, but... to me this fact is as realistic as can be. We don't always get the happy endings were hoping for. And in true PB style, Michael now IS a real hero!
Maybe some of you think I'm an obsessed fan who likes everything about his favorite show. But no I'm not. I know some moments/episodes/story lines were way over the top and unrealistic, but come on... it's a TV show. Most movies are unrealistic as well, but that's why their called TV shows and movies, they're made for entertainment, to take us out of our daily lives and into some fantasy world where we can escape real life! And PB did just that!
I got hooked on this show later than most of you did and almost banned it after I didn't like the 3rd season at first. But thank god I stayed loyal to the show!
But now it's over! Well... almost. I really can't wait for 'The Final Break' DVD, but after that, it wíll be over.
Ouch... saying that gives me some strange feeling. But thank god for dvds and the fact that this show is available on them so we can rewatch it again and again and again. I for one definitely will!! I already have the first 3 seasons on DVD and can't wait to buy the final season and the movie length episodes when they will be released here in Holland (probably somewhere September/October).
After that... May they all rest in peace! :-)
A Mother's Prayer (1995)
Oscar worthy TV-movie!
This is a great movie. Next to Linda's Terminator performances and her role in TV's Beauty and the Beast, this is her best performance to date. Which is a big thing to say, given the fact that Linda, in my opinion, is one of the best and most underestimated actresses Hollywood has ever had. She plays Rosemary with all she has to offer. You really feel what she feels. I also love the fact that she cut her (then) beautiful long hair short, and choose not to wear a wig. She really wanted to BE Rosemary Holmstrom. But all the other actors are great in this movie, especially Noah Fleiss, Kate Nelligan and RuPaul. Lately I hear someone say that when they watch certain actors/actresses, they always have the feeling they're watching the most famous character they've played. I never have that feeling when I watch Linda Hamilton. I never feel like I'm watching Sarah Conner or Catherine Chandler, or Linda Hamilton herself. Give Linda and this movie a chance!!!
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
T2 Special edition
Any Terminator fans who agree with me that it was a shame that some of the deleted scenes (which were shown in the special edition) were some of the best scenes as well? I mean, Sarah's dream, in which Kyle visits her... Linda Hamilton is simply gorgeous, but more important, the whole scene is just fabulous. The scene in which the T1000 is on the phone with Jonh (who thinks he's talking to his foster parents) and then finds out the dog's name is Max instead of Wolfie). Then there's the scene where she wants to destroy the terminator's chip. And the scene at the end where we see an adult John with his daughter and mother at the playground. Linda looks great as a grandmother, and IF James Cameron would have kept it at the end, probably no one would have made that horrible T3 movie... For those who don't have a clue 'bout what I'm talking about, buy the special edition DVD and find out. It's so much worth the money!!!
