Doctor Who: Love & Monsters (2006)
Can't make up my mind
OK- this episode was funny, had a great cast, some very funny moments, but does anyone else feel it was a complete waste of an episode. If there were 20 episodes a season then - fair enough but when there are only 13 then.....
And the other thing is- Rose Tyler has only got 3 episodes left before she spectacularly (hopefully) bites the dust in "Doomsday" so surely to spend one of the episodes concentrating on a character we'll never see again a bit pointless. I wanted more Rose!!
I think self indulgent would be the best way to describe this ep. Just hope Russell pulls it outta the bag for the finale or there are going to be a lot of disappointed fans!
Doctor Who: Rise of the Cybermen (2006)
Monkey on an iMac
Oh my god! What an awful awful episode and this season was doing so well! We've had cool Cat People, Were-Wolves, Sarah-Jane and 17th Century France. BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!
But now we learn that Russell has given the series' defining moment to a monkey on an iMac. The writer this week has never written before for Doctor Who and has had brief spells on the crappy No Angels, so why why why give him the task of bringing back the Cybermen???
There was very little set up in the episode- it really didn't need to be 2 episodes. The dialogue was hammy, the storyline boring and a complete waste of a Doctor Who episode! Stephen Moffet should have written this one- then at least there would have been some jokes in it! Waste of time if you ask me- they really need to pull out all the stops next week because otherwise this season is going to go downhill! I'm not even looking forward to the season finale now because they're cyberiffic as well! Just as long as they're not written by this chimp then they might be savable!
Shame on you Russell T. Davies- shame on you!
Suburban Shootout (2006)
Oooo I like it! - EDIT: Nope I take it back!
Nope- now I take back all my other comments. Suburban Shootout was a one trick pony- the pilot very funny but after that it all just goes downhill. Well done Channel 5, take a good idea and ruin it.
DISREGARD ANYTHING BELOW!
Finally some great original comedy from Channel 5!!!!! It seems great from the pilot. Desperate Housewives meets The Godfather! A woman and her policeman husband move to Little Steppington- a typical little village in the south of England. However before the first box is unpacked Joyce is taken on a tour round the town by a group of housewives only to be become involved in the destruction of the Wicker Barn. Very clever dialogue, and a great performance from Chancellor!
Give it a go! Thursday nights 11pm Channel 5. Give it the ratings it deserves so they can make more shows like this! Also Channel 5 move it to a better time slot! It's about time us Brits took back the king of comedy title from the Americans, we've been laking it for AGES!!!!
Lucky Number Slevin (2006)
Not so brilliant
It looked good (brilliant set design), the cast was fantastic, but at the end of the day Slevin really doesn't add up to much. It was badly written, predictably plotted and the editing was all over the place- especially the first big scene with Ben Kingsly- thought I was getting sea sick with all the intercutting. You can see why this is out in Europe before it opens in the US- the film company obviously has no confidence in the film. Don't waste your time- rent Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels if you actually want to see a clever gangster film with a "twist".
Hats off to Lucy Lui though- she was fantastic! I'd like to see her in more roles like this!
