One Shot (2021)
Full on and entertaining
This is a full on action movie which never really takes its foot off the gas.
Some good use of single camera shooting to keep your attention and create some good fight sequences.
Not too sure about the ending, seemed like a bit of an after thought
But seriously how many terrorists must have been in that truck??? Was it owned by zippo the clown? There must have been at least 40-50 killed during the course of the film.
Pathfinder (2007)
Enough of the dark filters
Infuriatingly this film was spoiled by a director who felt the need to make the cinematography so dark in almost all the scenes that it was often hard to see what was going on.
The concept of the film is great and.it could have been really enjoyable. It is the telling of a legend supposedy set when the vikings landed on the shores of America and ransacked the native American Indians.
Unfortunately the director obviously felt this was some sort of vanity project and decided to focus on style over substance at the expense of the viewer. This is also apparent in the costumes of the vikings who would have looked much suited to a Conan the Barbarian film than what they really would have looked like in that era.
Some good action (if you can see it) but don't go out of your way to watch this movie.
Lucy Shimmers and the Prince of Peace (2020)
Good story, terrible supporting cast
I watched this film with my 8 year old daughter and we really enjoyed it. The main cast are very good, especially Scarlett who is just adorable and really carries the film. However the supporting cast in the prison, hospital, etc are terrible. It's like they have never acted before, I don't understand how there could be such a contrast and it's a shame because it let's down a wonderful film.
Ender's Game (2013)
Such a disappointment
I went into this film with high hopes. I have read most of the books in the Ender series and found them fascinating with numerous sub-plots taking place and really rich and well developed characters. Unfortunately in this film you get none of that. I understand that you can't always include everything that is in a book in a film due to time constraints but it basically misses out everything that was important in the story. You find yourself watching it and thinking again and again "how could they miss that bit out". It's basically a few action sequences pegged together. I think it either needed to be a longer film or maybe made into two films. I can't imagine Orson Scott Card would have been happy with what was turned out. I suppose if I had seen the film without reading the book that I might have a different opinion, but as it stands I got to the end and felt massively deflated. The anticipation of watching the film far exceeded the actual film itself!
