The Marksman (2005)
As teacher said "Could do better!"
There were so many bad points in this film it's hard to know where to start. I completely agree with Krywolff. When it comes down to acting the part and appearing as a special forces soldier only Snipes even came near to it. There is no way a highly trained soldier is going to run through a dark building with great big windows merrily shining a high power flash light around, not only lighting up the windows but blinding his own troops with the glare when he shines it straight into their faces. In all branches of special forces, team work is central to the success of any mission and while all troops are expected to be able to operate independently they would not just go off in the way that they did in the film. The other thing that I found very annoying is the habit of the film makers to make the music unnecessarily loud. While the music plays a vital part in every film when it drowns out the actors words it tends to make it a nonsense. Also the sudden increase in the volume in dramatic music just makes me cringe and wonder why I'm watching this trash anyway. I rented this film to see if it was worth buying - I've decided I wasted my money renting it.
Almost an Angel (1990)
Requires a sequel
An entertaining story of a convict who goes straight, well almost. The opening scenes set the pace and style. And throughout the film it just gets better and better. Rated at PG this film gives me no doubts about my kids seeing it. They did, they laughed and they cried and then laughed some more. This has to one of the most under-rated films starring Paul Hogan. It is certainly one of the best he has written. The film is a good mixture of story and humour and any fan of Paul Hogan should enjoy this film. I had to get my copy from ebay because they have stopped producing it. As somebody else says 'come on do it on DVD'. And after you have seen it, I think you will agree it is worthy of a sequel.
