Beulah (1950)
I'm confused
I've picked up a few of these episodes from the internet archive of public domain shows. These episodes star Louise Beavers, and I believe they are from 1952. I can't find a good episode list but according to IMDb there were 3 more Beulahs besides Louise Beavers, including Hattie McDaniel from "Gone with the Wind", Ethel Waters, and Amanda Rudolph all in a 3 year period. Why so many changes? I know Hattie McDaniel died in 52, but I still can't believe a show with so many main character changes, let alone the fact she was black in the 50's would stay on TV. Stranger still I have a spattering of early TV listings from 1952 and 1953, this show is not in any evening lineup. Was this some kind of show syndicated to different markets? Any experts out there can educate me?
Thelma & Louise (1991)
The worst thing about this movie
I really don't know if this movie set out to be a male bashing film, but I didn't see any man in the movie who was nothing less than a creep. Every man in the movie was made out to be an a-hole or a pussy like the cop who cried. The movie wanted to make a statement, but I was more interested in the storyline which was actually pretty good. As far as why they felt it necessary to commit, suicide, I didn't find that move convincing at all, but it was entertaining. Now if you're a guy, and you want to know worst atrocity of this film, it was the ending when they committed suicide. For Christ sake, did you see that car they were driving?? It was a beautiful classic 65 Ford Thunderbird convertible, and those 2 bitches trashed it. They should have parked it and jumped off the cliff.
Child Bride (1938)
Nudity not shocking
I saw this movie at a film festival about a month ago. Everyone seems shocked by the nudity, but I thought it was very tasteful. I totally agree it was not necessary to the storyline, and I'm trying to think of reasons why it was there. Although the actress was only 12, I think they were trying to personify her innocence. One comment I read said the girl was developed, and that is totally not true. I also think that a pubescent girl in 1938 was not considered "arousing". A full grown woman skinny dipping would have been out of the question. This movie is supposedly made (in the likeness of "Reefer Madness") to shock the public (as a public service). I found the movie very period and interesting (did you catch the "nigger in the woodpile" reference?), I have to admit being a softy and liking the happy ending.
Crowhaven Farm (1970)
I know why you'll never see this movie again
To begin with, I'm just like everyone else who has posted a comment here. I remember seeing this movie as a kid (In 1970 I was 12), and it did scare the crap out of me too. Fast forward 20 years and I took a film class while in college (career change). A young girl in my class did this whole presentation for an assignment on inappropriate relationship in films. She was a flake, and went on about inappropriate scenes involving adult males and underage females. Perfectly innocent scenes to most people, but offensive to her. One other example I remember was the scene in "Little Miss Marker" where the kid invites him (Walter Matthau) to sleep with her. But one of the film clips she presented was from Crowhaven Farm. God knows how or where she got it, but it's the scene with Cindy Elibacher and Paul Burke in bed together. As I remember, Cindy Elibacher was being seductive in a childish way. I don't remember enough of the movie as to why they were in bed together, but it did appear that Cindy Elibacher's character was behaving seductively for some reason in the story line. At this point in time we are in the midst of a hysteria, whereby a scene like this on prime time TV would be construed as veiled child porn. I know you'll never see this movie on DVD. Comments?
Screaming Mimi (1958)
Scared me as a child
I remember this movie only because my sister and I were the original latch key kids. My older sister and I used to watch TV from the old channel 5 ( pre- Fox network ) TV out of Washington DC. They ran great late afternoon movies and reruns I watched for years before cable. Anyone who grew up in the channel 5 area during the late 60's knows hows what I mean. The Untouchables, Highway Patrol, The Big Valley, Dear Lord where are these great reruns today?? But I digress.. This movie scared the living crap out of me, and I remember my sister teasing me for months. I remember so little about this movie, but it scared me bad enough I've never forgotten the title. Netflix doesn't have this..anyone know where to get a copy of it? I want to face my fear!!
