Chernobyl (2019)

Writing this review before watching it again
21 February 2021
First of all, this is an exceptional series! What I like about a series? 1. Good content 2. Good presentation

This series has built on very unfortunate event - The Chernobyl Tragedy! I remember when I read about it in my school books. But after I saw this series, I felt what it really was. It has captured the event in entirety - the science behind it, the people behind it, the tragedy behind it, the horror behind it and the biggest of all the essense that make us human and how people can do unimaginable things beyond anything that people will do in normal times. It's a magnificent depiction of a very tragic event. And the crescendo continues to the end of the series and stitches to beginning!

Please watch it if you have only decided to decided 1 more series.

Revnege shown in a way worth watching
20 February 2015
After a long time I watched a good Bollywood movie. The movie revolves around the concept of revenge. But as you would have seen so many movies regarding that, so why watch this? This is why, this movie is more practical than many of the other movies. Here the protagonist is not ethically correct every time and that is true for any common man. In the end, the movie has a message for people who thinks revenge is the best way.

Extremely well chosen actors, from Nawaz to Divya, all have acted well. Nawazuddin has done a extremely stunning performance and shows the mettle to outshine any protagonists in the movie. Varun Dhawan for a change has done a very good work unlike his usual style of chocolate boy. Must watch for people who can handle a bit of gore.

Other reviewers have appreciated the movie but has under-rated it, but I must say, it is an 8 all the way.

Good one
16 December 2014
The movie's name is quite apt as you can see a variety of food in the first half of the movie. The movie has a motive to show how subtly and unexpectedly a relationship can start.

This movie starts quite calmly and flows very smoothly till the end. An ardent movie watcher can watch the movie with fervor, which may not be there for everyone but this movie shows something which everyone will cherish. The characters in the movie is quite firmly built and even those whose voice is present can be related to. I don't want to give any specifics of the movie as it generally kills the motive of movie watching, but I will state this that the movie takes you to a life of an ordinary man in his 40s which takes some out of ordinary turns and lands him into realizing the meaning of age. Dabbawalas are also kind of an important entity in the movie. Also, many of us was unable to get an appropriate ending in the movie, which was just left to the viewers to think about. But in my opinion, the timing of the Dabbawalas are clearly shown with respect to the timing of the school which is evident that the ending is happy.

All in all the acting of all the characters are extremely good and goes a long way to elevate the movie to a different level.

Dabangg 2 (2012)

Are we that dumb?
22 December 2012
Dabangg had a good storyline but not that good, you cannot clear 2 movies from that same story. Dabangg 2 has no story, only action. It seems like nowadays money has no meaning, it can be wasted like throwing it down the drain.

Actually, it has nothing so you cannot criticize anything out of it. It is so stupid that you'll feel like one when you try to judge it in terms of good or bad. The makers of this movie knew that this stew is overcooked, so they started making money by roping small brands and advertising in the movie itself.

Sometimes I feel like, "are we so dumb that we'll let this movie earn hundreds of crores?". Someone has written aptly that this movie makes dabangg look like a masterpiece.

What the paa???
6 December 2009
I know after reading this comment, u'll press no and my comment will be at the rock bottom. But I must say this is not a good movie. I agree with others that big b has tried his best, he has worked under heavy makeup throughout the movie. But except for the movie, I don't seem anything clicking in the right place. In the promo tag line, we see its a father-son relationship movie but in the 1st half of the movie we see nothing remotely related to that. In second half we see so much of that, that we get fed up. Some scenes are bizarre, like the one in which big b sits on tiny b's hand, I can't comprehend the stupidity of the scene. What was that?? The movie wants to show many aspects that it fails to show anything.Politics, Media, father-son relationship, progeria patient etc etc. What? He is a progeria patient, not a mentally retard, he should have been shown eccentric 12 yr old, not like this. I am very sorry to those who wanted to see this movie.

Ghajini (2008)

Too much of a "mood jump"
27 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
k lets see what can be said about the movie.......First of all don't compare it with Memento as Ghajini is not its remake or sumthin'. Only the concept of short term memory loss has been taken from that movie. Actually I was reading someone's comment where I came to know that they are taking it as its remake......but it is not.....Of course its a remake of that Tamil muvi by the same name and same director............The acting of the major actors is OK but of that police inspector is very bad...very very bad The screenplay is okay...cinematography, I don't know but I was not as such atttracted by it anywhere in the movie ..... Action is nice let it be that fight scene of that inspector and Sanjay or the last he-man scene (South Indian movie touch)........I want to say that the scene in which Kalpana is hiding behind that door is too good and I think the director has maintained the thrill for about 5 minutes..........All in all this muvi has got a really cute love story and a character, Kalpana, who is pampered all through the movie and u'll generate a kind of attachment to that character and at the end she is killed brutally which is very annoying as it breaches the extent of "mood jump" in a movie...........For the end of the movie, I want to say that the viewer is expecting that kind of action as they are also feeling a kind of revenge against that brutal killing.....Must watch but only once as for me, I cant handle that "mood jump"(cute love story to extreme violence).

"When's day"
15 September 2008
So when's that day??? When we will rise like phoenix from the ashes.......

So cutting it out to the movie........

First lets talk about the movie...... Movie per se is too good and I was moved by the very idea of the movie. As i am not checking the spoiler box, I must be brief......Though the movie is incomparable and nothing can be said without exposing the plot. Now I can easily say that Bollywood is showing some of its traits that can be compared to a Hollywood movie. The idea of the movie is among the best I have ever seen. This movie should go for Oscars not involving any kind of politics this time.

Lets see what can be said about the components of the movie, to start with we have 2 of the greatest Bollywood actor in the movie and chosen aptly for the roles. The four terrorists are chosen correctly for the role and also their getup is quite nice and appropriate. In the acting department only Deepal Shaw has shown some weakness, otherwise all the actors for big and small roles have shown their skills. Screenplay is good with too many story running simultaneously at the start of the movie. Cinematography is also fine with the scenes on the road, from the streets and all, also appreciable amount of money has been spent on it too. Background score is a bit too loud but some may find it appropriate but its not.....Editing is nice enough as the coherence is evident in the movie. Now what ..... the king of all ...... Mr Niraj, the director of the movie, he has done a great job by managing all the accoutrement on his back and using the right card at the right time.........This movie has an effect and is generally followed by a deep thinking........ "When there's a match between India and Pakistan.....and when India loses ... ESPN & STAR SPORTS are not blamed" It simply says that stop blaming the accessory, take the responsibility of failure, then only you deserve the accolades.

Rock on
1 September 2008
OK fine .......lets see as a movie not good......... for me, as a college guy, okies movie... for those who r involved in some kind of band , too good.....

Farhan as an actor----bad All the rock songs in the 1st half ------ bad very bad(they don't have any meaning...."zehrilay saanp" n all... too bad) last song is OK .. In the story u see that it is a mixture of few of the past movies ... dil chahta hai(aamir shown as a rich guy gets into a fight with akshay khanna, similarities can easily be seen) Direction...k what can I say about Abhishek.....k fine I think with this budget he has done a good job..... screenplay...sometimes nice but looks like a copy of DCH.... cinematography no good... editing k .....jumping from all the Rock music to sudden silence...ya makes u remember DCH.... I have given it 6 because of the last sequence, song, situation and ending....alls well that ends well.. Also 1 thing I missed to mention here that girl Debbie has done a good job ...nice acting...nice change from a girl to a wife & a mother... Nothing else ...

not "cocky" enough
20 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I know I watched this movie only because of Will Smmith........But I must say Will SMith is not enough to make this movie a good one..... I hope many of hose who liked this movie will be a teenager, cuz its very peppy movie. Music and background score is not impressive...Peter Berg, I don't know what he was thinking to show in 1 hr 27 mins...but OK he has shown lot of action though.......k lets see some good points ..... that scene where Hancock is fighting with his "wife" the scenes are mixed nicely. Also that head into the ass thing is sumthin' to laugh about ..... The stubble looks good on Will Smith but later he shaves it off. All in all if u wanna see a Will Smith movie... see it ........otherwise there are many movies to watch before this......

P2 is "2 P"oor
27 April 2008
I watched this movie on the Christmas night to get the feel of the theme but I was somewhat deceived The movie has that same old screenplay.....

The cinematography is sometimes good .... one where she is trapped in the trunk of the car etc The sound editing and mixing is not good as was expected for a thriller... I was only once caught off guard when she first enters the security cabin and the dog just growls at her.... .. Nothing much.. ..Direction is nothing special.... Acting I must say is fair enough.....

All in all not a movie that is worth watching...

The Matrix (1999)
10/10
"there is a spoon!!!!!!!!!"
19 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
From the first time I watched the movie....I wanted to write something, albeit I wanted that piece of writing to be phenomenal. First time I watched the movie when I passed high school, though at that time it should've gone bouncer over me if my brothers wouldn't have been there. I was simply bowled over, but I didn't know it will keep coming back in different shades. Then I watched it again and again, I understood a bit more, then came all the other parts, I came to my Insti, then in 2nd yr of my B.Tech. I watched it about 10 times more, then I started experiencing another level of the matrix i.e. the one related to Bhagwat Gita. Your life(life in the matrix), enlightenment(free your mind), spiritual life(life in real world) and on and on. This movie my friend is more than what you can imagine, watch it if you are a movie lover, sci fi addict, spiritual, human and above all if you are "plugged". I like all the dialogs of the matrix and I think I remember 50% of the script. This movie is made to rock your life. The dialogs are the best part of the matrix......so script/screenplay is nice, cinematography is good but amateur, direction and all is good, acting I think is not required here. But above all the visual effect. And ya that is also the cinematography when the scene freezes and revolves, they used I think 12 cameras for that. My personal favorite.

The X-Files: Bad Blood (1998)

Do vampires have fangs?????
12 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is the best screenplay I have ever seen in X-Files. Though its common in movies, different views are shown as different part of the script, but for the X-Files this was the first. Now the next thing the humour lot in X-Files, this episode surpasses all others and its good. Mulder is good, Scully is good, Sheriff is good but the end is not good. But......My God..... what was the ending, a brilliant episode ending in such an open way. I think this episode at least meant a little more than others and we were expecting a more obvious but conclusive end. I didn't wanted to demean this episode in any way and I think for 1st time watch it will keep you glued until the last moment.

A masterpiece from the beginning........
9 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
All I want to say is that a lot of toil is there behind this movie that many of us have overlooked......The cinematography is I think the best thing one can get.....the shots are long and sometimes camera is so beautifully moved that you get the effect but you don't know what struck you....The scene when Papa leplese dies there's a ecstatic long shot where the camera follows Edith, to the dead body and comes out of the room with her......Again there is a shot where blind baby Edith accidentally enters Titine's room and then her grandma comes and takes her out, the movement of Camera is very nice in this scene....And this scene about which I am going to write is articulately built and shot...baby Edith is standing outside a doll shop and shutters are being brought down his father is calling for her from outside but the sound is feeble, its like she's inside the shop with the doll and slowly the shutters comes down completely and the screen is black for a few moments. Screenplay is non linear and in a way nice, though some find difficult to comprehend the purpose of this but it is good, actually the movie La Mome is being narrated by Edith and she is remembering the past experience, the screenplay is purely intensional and justified .....Direction is nice, it is based on the real life of Edith Piaf, so script is not original but of course it is good......Music and movie score is also fine but as the movie deals with a singer it is an quintessential feature. Now last but not the least the acting, Everybody has done a good job...naaa....great job. Everybody from Titine to Marcel.....Oh we have forgotten somebody ......yaaa...MARION COTILLARD........she has done a great piece of acting, she has shown every shade and every realm of life of Edith Piaf and that too with a razor fine quality, she looks like Edith Piaf more on the screen....It is supplemented by very good makeup...her eyes look like a bit too inside the socket showing that she is sick and all......There's dialog in the movie by Marion Cotillard "Edith Piaf can do whatever she pleases" I don't know about her but Marion Cotillard has done likewise..... A masterpiece all the way......

Ratatouille (2007)

Not just the best animation.....
6 March 2008
Ratatouille, I think is much more than just an animated movie. It has that synergic effect that a complete movie needs to have. In my view all the visual effect crew has worked in tandem to serve this terrific "dish" in front of the viewers....But thats not it the Storywriter, the screenplay writer, the director and the co-director, every one has done a great job. Its very difficult to put into words that comprehensive thing that they have presented in front of us. There is every essence a movie requires, emotion, drama, comedy, direction, screenplay, music, background score and above all a "happies endings". The movie is just ecstatic.....

Surf's Up (2007)

Simply a very nice movie....
6 March 2008
I think this movie is quite beautifully built and is a must watch for an animated movie lover. In spite of the fact that it lost to Ratatouille in the Oscars, I can easily say that this movie is worth watching. If it wouldn't have been Ratatouille, the situation would have been different. Now, first of all the screenplay of the movie is very good for instance the characters conversing with the camera every now and then is a nice idea. Then some brilliant scenes are there with the surfing in the envelope of water (waves). The depiction of the "banana leaf ride" is also very good. The character of "Z" and Cody is very well displayed......All in all the whole story is good and entertains you for one hour and fifteen minutes.

Waste of time
6 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Actually Rajat Kapoor should act in far too many movies before coming to direction and script writing. He is not sure what he wants to show, a comedy, an art movie, a drama, a love story or I don't know what......... I wasted my time seeing this movie and so I am writing this comment so that others may not waste it like me.........Acting is fine and why not the pros of acting are in there, but the story is too bad and pointless......the screenplay is too bad and rather I should say is not given proper consideration....some fine cinematography is depicted but that too is not good enough....the scene where VK is shot and the scenes are shown like glimpses, that is good......Rest is what you'll never expect and do not want to see.....I have given 5/10 bcoz of the acting of Ranveer Shourie.....in spite of the bad role and dialogs he has done a good job.....once again Rajat Kapoor is a good actor not a good director ;)

A nice movie with an age old core....
29 February 2008
The movie is basically that same old mafia thing.......but here its not Italian...its an American ... an American GAngster......... The movie starts up with a very violent scene which is not it is all about .......The movie mainly hovers around Denzel Washington..........and to be specific his part in the movie is the best out of the lot...background score is nice and screenplay n cinematography is also fine......Screenplay could have been better........One thing that is to be said everywhere this movie is discussed is that the movie is based on a real life story and that alone casts a huge impact on the viewers.....Also I forgot to mention Russell Crowe, He also has his part but one can see him being overshadowed by Denzel.......

All in all I can say that the movie is okies...

Al P all the way......
29 February 2008
I liked this movie a lot because of the terrific piece of acting put forward by Al Pacino.

The story is good, all other things are quite average........but hoooaaa Al Pacino, he is a one man army here, he walks like a blind, talks like a blind and lives like a blind, through the whole movie. The dialogs are good, but it has been made better by his ultimately beautiful dialog delivery. Also he has portrayed a very nice side of a colonel in the movie....... The movie starts with a beautiful music....and ends up motivating the viewer that do not snitch on your friend.....that is not what good leaders do.......

If you want to see acting watch Al P in this movie......

No music but "rhythm" all the way
25 February 2008
First of all the movie is superb......though no background score anywhere but I think that suits the scenes.....The best thing about the movie is its rhythmic flow.....sometimes quite fast sometimes slow.....matching with the situation being displayed..... Acting wise Javier Bardem has done appreciably well...Tomy Lee Jones can be seen mostly in the 2nd half....the last monologue by him very well written and equally well expressed...

Cinematography is good, screenplay is linear....Direction is too good....

About the scenes.....I think the collision of Chigurh's car at the end is very well depicted and I just moved from my position while watching that...every other scene is directed quite well.....

A must watch for year 2007.

Nobody wants to die alone......
19 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
the movie starts with a depressing note... absolutely no music in the 1st half. The movie is a bit slow in the beginning but the tenderness of feeling can be demonstrated slow only. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are 2 cancer patients...Jack Nicholson is a billionaire and Morgan Freeman is a middle class man. Doctor tell them that they have months left. Then the movie gains some pace and also some background score, they make a list of things that they wanna do before they die (go into the bucket) and that is the "bucket list". In the remaining movie they try to do stuffs written in the list and one by one they do things and strike off from the list. The acting cant be criticized as they are the big guns. The screenplay may get the points in innovative script but rest is not out of ordinary...one particular thing about the movie is that Morgan Freeman narrates the story and in the end he dies...... Cinematography is good as the shots taken are very good and from the round the globe...for instance the image of Taj Mahal in the water in the backdrop as they are walking past it. Altogether a good movie.

Toooo slow.........
14 January 2008
Acting : 4.0/4 No doubt about, it all the marks given, Not only Aamir Khan n Darsheel Safary but all other have done a great job Direction : 0.6/1 Cinematography : .9/1.0 Some scenes are very good like the one with the drawing competition where many people are sitting in the amphitheatre etc. Screenplay : .5/1.0 No, it is not good, the movie is not placed rightly thats why scenes are not merged together or knitted together, flow is altered in some manner.Screenplay is not that good as sometimes the movie goes on slow then again it turns into a senti scene, film editing also can be blamed here. Sound, Music, Sound : 2.0/2.0 I like the music, the title track, jame raho n Ma Make up: .2/1.0Makeup is not upto the mark, the scene where Ishaan fights with that boy, the wounds are looking fake.

total : 8.2/10

After writing this I can easily say watch the movie cause it has something out of the general. Also this is the first time for Aamir Khan in direction he will improve in days to come.

An ecstatic musical all the way
13 January 2008
My categorized comment about the whole movie is like this

Acting : 3.0/4 Direction : 0.5/1 Screenplay : 0.7/1 Cinematography : 0.9/1 Sound : 0.8/1 Music, Dance n Song : 2.0/2

in all 7.9/10

All in all it is a very good musical movie, actually its songs are very good and also the choreography is exceptionally good. Salim, Sulaiman should be given the credit for the wonderful music. Also, one particular thing about the movie is its song is shown in parts that gives a kinda different touch to the movie.

At last the play portrayed at the end of the movie is wisely knitted. Must watch for a music lover, for choreography and ya for Madhuri fans.

Bloody display
5 January 2008
The movie is full of drama and drama and some more drama, In the later part of the movie he starts acting like a superhuman and drama reaches to a pinnacle. Kevin Bacon has done a good job no doubt about that, his heavy breathing on the car is a very good expression. On the acting part everyone is fair enough. Direction is OK. Screenplay is not so good and kinda stereotyped. One thing that ought to be accentuated here is the cinematography, all through the movie you'll find a great work in that field, Its culmination can be seen in the parking lot. A lot of toil has been undertaken in order to show such a good sequence.

All in all a nice movie but kinda dramatic in the end.....

Ultimate storyline n direction
12 December 2007
I think this movie is a gift to Hollywood ... not many movies cross the line to a new horizon ... this one does ...

A very good storyline, screenplay, script Good direction and a very good acting by Edward Norton in particular and all in general...

Though I am not very much impressed with the dialogs, thats why I have voted it 9/10 ... Only a few very good dialogs are there and that too in the end of the movie Cinematography is also not remarkable...

Sound editing is good and there is not much scope for costumes and sets...

Watch this movie if you wanna see a good story and acting....

The inside picture of a common man ... entangled in war
23 November 2007
My comment about this movie is not different from others..

It is a very good movie with quite a good direction and cinematography...

Now for the folks who were in front of camera... It is inevitable that Adrien Brody will come on the top of the list... excellent face expression, unmatchable body language..the staggered way of walking' is I think the best part of it... Evrybody in the movie has done a great job... for every small role...

I think this movie worth a watch and most of all a thinking... this is a movie that will of course leave an imprint in your mind that will remain forever..

to sum up...a masterpiece by Roman Polanski...
