Levkas Man (1981)

A Lost series that needs re-visiting
9 May 2008
What has happened to this series which I saw when it was first aired? From a novel by Hammond Innes and a fine script by Peter Yeldham it seems to have disappeared without trace. Hammond Innes' novels may not currently be fashionable but this a good story and a good production led by the incomparable Marius Goring. Interestingly this was an Australian/German co-production and does seem to have been shot on location - presumably in Greece where the book's action is set. It is interesting that another Innes novel - Golden Soak - was also jointly produced by Australian and German backers - presumably there was an interest in his books in Germany at that time. Surely Levkas Man is worth a DVD publication but in the meantime does anyone out there have a copy? I have been searching for this for many years.

Golden Soak (1979)

A First class adaptation of one of Hammond Innes' best novels
9 January 2005
Probably the best and most faithful adaptation of a Hammond Innes novel. I first saw this TV mini-series many years ago on British TV but to my knowledge it has never been repeated. It is one of Peter Yeldham's many excellent TV adaptations which also include another Innes novel - Levkas Man. It's a pity that, to my knowledge, this first class series has never been made commercially available on either video or DVD.

Is it still being shown anywhere in the world - possibly Australia where most of the action is set - has anyone seen it more recently? It's a pity a lot more of Peter Yeldham's work is not commercially available.
