Princess Nikki (2006– )

shocking

i hate this girl she's so stupid and this is the worst programme ever to have been made. i looked at what else the director had done and it said 'chantelle's dream dates' which if i remember rightly was the other stupid big brother contestant. after a nice polite hotel owner showed her to her room and being so nice and helpful and her saying ' this is the worst hotel in the world' 'do you charge £2.50' and 'is this minus 10 stars?' then having a fit of tears!!! and refusing to stay in a 'dog kennel'. least to say it was a normal bedroom, no perks but clean and livable.

OK so this troll girl who lives in a standard working class estate seems to think she's better than anyone else, refusing to ever have a proper job or accept the fact she's a commoner (i'm a commoner and i know it, i get on with life!!!)

Paris hilton and her ugly friend had to do all those crappy jobs in farms an fast food and all that sort of stuff. they are daughters of multi millionaires, they aren't grasping for cash and are used to a far higher standard of living, at least they had a go and had a laugh.

but the working class British girl strops and squeals her way through everything. even moaning because she was stood outside when it was spitting. might wash away your ugly face girl!!!

so when she squeals her refusal to do every single thing and in cancelling the show through the fear of being humiliated we are incessantly screaming LET HER LEAVE, PLEASE!!!! and slap her while you're at it!!

Ninety-Nine Nights (2006 Video Game)
8/10
visually pleasing and quite addictive

i'm writing this after being only 10 missions along so if the game drastically changes after this then i'm unaware! Despite not really know what sort of game i was buying i as hoping for an RPG, it turned out to be a battle game. normally i don't enjoy this sort of game but i find it very entertaining from the start with the conflict between characters already present. The graphics are awesome and the orb spark attacks are so gratifying seeing a tide of about 80 people flying into the air. the variety of moves is quite good and very entertaining because of the long swoop lines!

the difficulty varies between missions and you are definitely challenged before too long having to use your mind slightly to control your flank units.

i would recommend this game to anyone, i normally don't play any battle games and thoroughly enjoy it so just give it a try!! WARNING!!!!! when you use a different character you have to start a new save file.... i lost hours of play by mistaking this!

not for everyone. i'm not everyone.

What a film, its so pleasing to see nicolas cage back in his suited role as a desperate middle aged man. Reminiscent of his earlier works i.e adaptation and bringing out the dead. If you don't like subtle humour, general comments on the poorness of life and deliberated voice-overs then you'll probably run to the kitchen to make a sandwich after ten minutes of watching.

Micheal Cane put in a great performance as Dave Spritz' father with a real reason to be thinking bleakly about life. While Spritz himself has a great career his lacking family life and incessant pelting from fast food makes him express himself in such ways as taking up archery. The ironically used product placement shows us the throwaway fast food lifestyle we lead without really caring about anything.

it's quite a slow film with some funny moments and you'll either find it poetic or boring, if you like action and high paced movies it's probably not worth your time.

fun for all ages
13 August 2006
After many years of avoiding the harry potter films my mum invited me to sit down with her and watch a few. after watching the first movie i wasn't particularly surprised or looking forward to the next films. i read the first 3 books when they were first out and was looking forward to this film remembering that i enjoyed the story. I think the choice of getting in the new director was a masterstroke, although the first two films were aimed towards the younger audience this one was less predictable and far more entertaining. Without initially realising it director Cuarón was involved with both Y tu mama tambien and Great expectations(or which i enjoy both), i was still keen to look up what he had done previously.

i thought this movie was well worth watching and was entertaining for those of all ages, and i don't mean that in the same way as monsters inc. which people say its suitable for all but is only really suitable for kids and simple adults. Its got unpredictable twists and luckily the numerous deus ex machina's take on believable explanations due to a twist!

in a fantasy world of werewolves, wizards and witchcraft the main characters take on more adult attributes and work together to protect Harry from the ghosts of his past.

Strings (2004)
9/10
unique
28 October 2005
The whole concept of strings interested me from the start, I'll admit i have a strange fascination with puppets anyway from somewhere unknown, i think probably Fraggle rock and that sort of thing which was re-established when i saw 'being john Malkovich' with the beautifully worked string puppets.

but anyway the whole concept of the strings being part of the puppet i found really enthralling, like they weren't quite in control of their own movements as we feel we aren't. the mystical scenes of the sky with strings in looked awesome.

the opening scene really captures your attention and you feel so much empathy towards the king that you forget he is a piece of wood and treat him as human from the start.

i was really intrigued with the explanations of birth and death and think they really added to make the universe seem believable.

on the whole the story was kind of predictable but in a classical fantasy way really worked in the new context. the design of all the surroundings was breathtaking, i think this would be great for kids also, despite the lack of happiness within the story

Pollock (2000)
7/10
portrayal of life, lack of meaning
14 May 2005
a good film, though perhaps i was expecting a little more. The psyche of a troubled artist is somewhat predestined these days and maybe it is just that our assumptions are correct as they are all portrayed in a predictable way. If this is how the artist truly was then then Harris could have done nothing different, it just seems a little distant. I didn't feel at one with the artist, i couldn't sympathise with him or feel his pain. The 'intellectual' artistic debates and gendredising continuously used by his wive left me with no sympathy for her. She appears desperate from the first scene pretentiously trying to be involved with the next big thing. The most depressing part of this film is that two people can be stupid enough to waste their lives on each other without searching for the happiness which they truly seek. The emphasis is on Pollock as a man whereas i would like to see more of him as an artist, did his individual paintings have meaning or did he just do them out of hate for the world.... i guess i didn't feel you see his mind and its true agony's, maybe he was just generally mad at the world.

Really not a bad film for what it is, just to me it lacked true emotion.

See life for what it is
12 May 2005
Absolutely love this film, saw it on the shelf at the age of 16 and couldn't resist the reality oozing through its cover. I thought, i have no idea what this is but i know i really want to see it. So i got it and it really opened my eyes to the real world of film and since then i haven't looked back.

The refreshingly real storyline and camera angles make you feel as you are on the street with these kids, you feel their pain and hardships through the 24 hour journey. Seeing different sides of arguments and quite likely a different lifestyle to your own. Not the film for you if you like things to be glossy, made up and fun. For anyone who believes in life and living this naturalistic script will no doubt remind you of people and situations you have known. By highlighting a few of the pressures of being a teenager this film should be universally recognised. Alternatively show it to kids to promote safe sex.

Not disturbing, just truthful.
