American Graffiti (1973)
50 years later
I'm watching American Graffiti for the very first time since it originally came out in the 1970s. I remember why I like this; it was because of the music and because of Wolfman Jack. I also liked this movie because of the hope that it gave me as I was turning 18 and getting ready to leave home.
I delayed watching this movie for so many years, because it reminds me of a lot of the trade-offs that I made in my life. I read the reviews, and someone mentioned the epilogues, and the epilogues probably are the most important part that I remember. The epilogues demonstrated the amount of hope and success that all of the characters had in the end. I wanted those successes for myself.
It turns out, that my road to success was very unique as I graduated in 1976 joining the final cohort of the Women's Army Corps.
In the end, this movie will always stay in my head. It's a great movie for the music, the cars, and the All-Star cast who were young like me. The yellow roadster will always be my favorite forever and ever.
Father Brown (2013)
Not familiar with these GK Chesterton stories
I've begun watching during a grim time. I'm aware of GK Chesterton's weightier works. I did not realized he'd authored fiction, but I know he was a contemporary of CS Lewis.
The programs are a good diversion at the end of the day when the news becomes stifling. Light, easy, viewing.
The Outlaw (1943)
Awful silly
As awful a plot as many state here, it's a staple. Boobs or no, watch at least once in B&W and again in color.it was a renowned film for its time. Jane Russell still had a captive audience as my parents always remember her as being "racy!"
Frankie Drake Mysteries (2017)
I enjoyed the show right up to season three.
It's not about the plot. It's not about the actors. It's about the costumes and the set.
In the first two seasons the sets were lovely the actors were dressed very well, the colors were amazing
With the advent of a show, now Frankie is in boring blonde, with the dill colors. Trudy's wardrobe declined too.
I got excited about this show as a binge watch because of the luxurious and thoughtful use of color. Ugh.
Downton Abbey (2019)
Feel good movie
In 1927, the story wraps up. The ending may be a bit sugary based on what would happen in 1929, nevertheless the future looks hopeful.
Maggie Smith shines as well as the rest of the cast. My nostalgia overcomes me. See it, envelope yourself in the grand British opulence one more time.
The high note is that Clermont castle survives still within the original family. Well done everyone!!
Men of the North (1930)
Oddly Strange
I'm not going to write much because I'm keeping an eye on the TV while I work.
I'm pretty sure that the snow is fake as are the set backdrops.
The dogs are real...they bark.
Interesting quote: "Do you know what time you went to the post and bought that cheese and stuff?" Reminds me of a gangster movie a la Canada. Then Gilbert Roland bursts out into a 'south of the border'-like tune.
Good Omens (2019)
All of the above
Irreverent, funny, human, and the music from Queen, makes this wonderfully hopeful. Language warning and the ability to suspend reality are VITAL
The Romanoffs (2018)
How many helicopters fly in LA?
Check episode 5. I had hoped the plodding would end.
Ordeal by Innocence (2018)
Great Art Deco curtains
Great Art Deco curtains in the dining room.
Hate seeing Matthew Goode being bad. I enjoyed his character in Downton Abbey.
A little slow.
Kremen (2012)
Very Walking Tall-like
This resembles Walking Tall in that a soldier returns to a small town where the police are corrupt. This small town is far from Moscow. Flint, a Russian Army Major, want to visit his friend and not cause trouble, but it appears trouble finds him.
Sprinkled into the corrupt police is a seemingly ethical young man who could go either way. Accept the bribes or not?
The Deputy Chief might be a good ally who could go either way too. Proteting people from bandits, putting up with shootings, insuring people will settle in the town...po-po may need more money.
Everyone speaks Russian and the sub-titles are in English. Don't look away, you'll miss the best lines.
Game of Silence (2016)
I watched the Premier twice and found the plot line has some potential | Texas Twang
I guess I'm a bit of an odd ball. I kind of like predictability. I read on Renew / Cancel that this show will most likely be canceled in this month. The question is, do I add it to my watch list? Probably. I never watched Sleeper so if the is a retread of another show, I don't know it. I spend my nights mostly reading and watching TV the next day on my Fire TV.
I like this bit of predictability. I could be homesick for Texas too. About Texas Twang. Y'all be all crazy. Fixin' to have a fit over drawls. It's supposed to be a leap out of reality and so, the Texas Twang went out! :)
