Imitation of Life (1934)
Superb movie
What a great movie! The story line was really good, the drama was REAL, the acting terrific, the emotions were real in the film, and not acted. The Cinematography was out of this world! A real "Silver Screen" It is really a great film.
The Sun Comes Up (1949)
what a great movie
What a great movie! I cried at the end of it. Great acting , good plot ,Lassie was terrific, the singing was superb, Jeanette MacDonald was so very good etc. Etc.
Bob le flambeur (1956)
film noir
This is a very good film with a sympathetic main character. Very good acting, realism, as many of the scenes are shot in the streets of Paris, lush cinematography excellent acting, drama and a surprise, and a very well done ending.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939)
This is a terrific film
This film is terrific. The sets, the acting, the plot, the pathos of the Hunchback, the goodness of Esmeralda, etc. The final scenes are joy and sorrow. Wow what a film.
Safety Last! (1923)
climbing the building
Climbing the building in this film is worth the price of admission alone! I think I held my breath for a good part of this scene. The scene in the boss's office was also classic. Wow. My heart is still beating fast after watching Harold Lloyd on the building's side. The acting was excellent all around, the plot had a few unexpected twists and this film is extremely enjoyable.
Ben-Hur A Tale of the Christ (1925)
unbelievably good
This film is extraordinary! The acting ,the sets, the action scenes, the story in and of itself etc. Etc. In my opinion this film is better than the Charlton Heston version of this story. The chariot race is absolutely stupendous. I think I may have held my breath during that entire scene. They couldn't equal the effects in this movie even with modern technology. This movie should be watched,
Stagecoach (1939)
GREAT film!
This is one of the three best westerns ever. Shane, High Noon and Stagecoach rise above movie characterizations, but all are all time CLASSICS. The story line of Stagecoach, the cinematography, the drama. The excitement, the dialogue, the acting rise above almost any other film of any type! Watch it!
The Dawn Patrol (1930)
Flight Commander
This is a terrific movie about friendship. Loyalty, bravery and doing the right thing even if you know what the results may be. This is from the era of realistic portrayals of brave men making tough choices, in a well acted film with an a unexpected ending.
Das indische Grabmal (1959)
Outstanding!
These may be the finest films I've ever seen (parts 1 and 2). The cinematography, the "sets", the action, story, acting were out of this world. The ending was fantastic! These movies had it all. They had love, suspense, thrilling heart stopping scenes etc. Etc. I loved Metropolis and these were it's equals. WOW.
Border Incident (1949)
turned it off
OK acting, poor script that is muddled and hard to follow. I turned if off about 1/2 way through. I expected more as the premise of "illegal" immigrants is so relevant today. I had no idea it was an issue in 1949.
Edge of the City (1957)
Edge of the City
This is a terrific film. Good story and script.
The acting is superb. It just about rates up there with On The Waterfront. I had no idea how it would end until the end! Seriously recommended.
The Law West of Tombstone (1938)
Old school western
This is a nice old school western. Made back in the day like I used to watch as a child. Thanks for showing it TCM. No super heroes, no special effects, no in your face sex, just a darn good western. Thanks again!
Side Street (1949)
Great street scenes
NYC in the 50's. This film is exciting and has terrific scenes in the neighborhoods of Manhattan. The cast was top rate as well as the direction and the feel of NYC's Lower East Side.
