Gaslit (2022)
Well done parody loosely based on history; laughably lauded as accurate by 60s retreads
I had hoped for something like All the President's Men, but ten minutes into the first episode it was obvious this was a parody. It was well written and features some very good performances. The numerous reviews here lauding the series' accuracy are clearly from deluded 60s loony leftists. While the competence of the Watergate crew can certainly be questioned, anyone that thinks the caricatures presented here accurately portray the players (except maybe Liddy, who by many accounts was bats$*t crazy lol) is delusional.
If you lived through this period, Gaslit is an entertaining fictional portrayal of the Watergate fiasco. It is well done enoug h to overcome the obvious agenda of the producers and some of the actors, who must have relished the opportunity to make people they despise look like morons.
Crossing Jordan (2001)
Great stories, but...
I am a big Jill Hennessy fan. I didn't watch this during its original run. I recently decided to give it a try.
As expected, very well written stories, along with interesting characters played by some of my favorite actors. However there is a huge flaw in each and every show that, being born and raised just outside Boston, I am compelled to point out.
How so many great actors can do the absolute worst Boston accents ever slays me. It's distracting. No one has ever talked like Jordan's father.
Sorry this isn't a "review" per se, but it's so bad it had to be said. I am trying to really like the show, but the jury is still out.
Edit: the jury's in. If you're from Boston, this is unwatchable based on the horrid accents alone.
Cooper's Bar (2022)
Funny & entertaining...
...which is the point, right?
It's amazing the self-absorbed drivel that results from letting anyone with a keyboard type stuff online. (See other reviews above.)
This is an excellent, witty short form distraction, well worth watching.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Examples (2021)
Wow. I'm tryin' Ringo...I'm tryin' real hard...
...but it isn't helping. The good news, I hope for my sake, is that of many horrid episodes, this was the worst so it has to better from here, right? RIGHT??
I said, "for my sake" because I am a ST fan, and will watch this crap until it's cancelled. But it's difficult.
The series as a whole has been horribly written and acted. Can the captain go ONE scene without dramatically whispering her oh so important lines?
All in all, a disgrace to the franchise.
The Other Side of the Wind (2018)
Welles Would Be Ashamed
The only people not calling this the dumpster fire it is are pretentious artsy wanna be-s that want to impress the rest of us with their appreciation for the 'art' of this movie.
This is so bad that actors doing cameos as themselves even suck.
This is a total waste of time, unless you dedicate the 2 hours to the memory of Orson Welles
I am going to give the documentary about the making of this a shot though.
Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011)
Ayn Rand must be rolling over in her grave
This is the first review I've ever submitted, and I will be posting this to all three parts of the Atlas Shrugged movie trilogy.
What a sad travesty. These are three of the worst movies I've ever struggled to watch. I kept hoping, both within each movie and through the three as.a whole, that it would get better. It didn't. It got worse. Much much worse.
It's almost as if someone set.out to purposely reduce Ayn Rand's outstanding epic to a painful pathetic parody of itself. I cannot for the life of me understand how people in the business of producing entertainment started with Rand's inspirational and philosophically brilliant novel and ended up with three pieces of absolute horrid trash.
Horrible amatuerishly written. Quality of direction a first year high school drama teacher would be ashamed of. Acting? Oh my God. It was like watching a Saturday Night Live skit making fun of horrible acting. Actors I know to be good turned in the worst performances of their lives.
I can't think of a bigger waste of 6 hours than watching these...things. Atlas Shrugged is one of my top 5 favorite books of all time. It accurately describes the hellish vision of 21st century liberalism. These films took an inspiring and thought provoking book and turned into a horrid putrid shell of itself.
Writing this during John Galt's speech in Part III. Wow, it sucks. If your a fan of Ayn Rand, these movies will leave you disappointed and sad. I'm glad the guy who put up the money to make these movies lost his shirt. He should lose his freedom.
