Retour à Séoul (2022)
On belonging, home, and life
Return to Seoul is a poetic expression, a melancholic journey into the soul that uncovers the longing for home, what it means to belong, and our purpose in this world. Slipping into the gaps of our human condition, uncovering things left unsaid, things untold, yearning that still holds. I liked this movie because it helped me to introspect on my relationship with home, belonging and purpose, and develop empathy with a renewed awareness of the cruelty of life, which is always in plain sight. The protagonist seems to be at the verge of breaking down or having an emotional outburst, and yet she never does, but it is the heart of the audience that does again and again. It is our hearts that open through the journey of this film: who are we, where do we belong, and who do we ultimately want to be.
