The Gentlemen (2024)
Can't hear 90% of the dialogue
I would love to say this is a great show. Guy Ritchie is one of my favorites, but the audio mixing is so bad that 10 minutes into episode one, I think there were 3 sentences that I could make out from the background sounds.
The only clear dialogue is unfortunately the screaming. I'm not going to watch an entire series with the subtitles on.
Great lighting though, even in the "dark" scenes... so there's that. The composition of every scene, actually, is beautifully thought out.
But yeah, the audio is crap. So if you're willing to just watch a bunch of arms flailing, smoking, and drinking, then this is for you. Unfortunately, it's just a hot mess of audio mush.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Why try to have a story
This would have been a fun 90 minute movie, but by trying to have a story like it was a drama instead of a zombie movie, it was horrible as both.
A zombie movie, I can deal with plot holes, but this movie had very irritating ones. One guy, you know is going to screw everyone over when he's introduced. And when one character is killed by him, she doesn't yell to everyone "Hey, that a-hole locked me in with the zombies". Instead, she takes the final 20 seconds of her life to tell everyone to run and then stare longingly at them.
The Unicorn (2019)
All but the lead character are well done
It's a fun show, but there is just nothing likeable about the lead character. At one point, a woman is "really into him", as he's flirting, and it was just painful to watch. Bravo for her for acting like he was being charming.
I've seen the lead actor in other parts, and he's good. This is not the role for him.
The pediatrician character is so well written, acted, and developed. Love her! Everyone else is really good, too... except the friends' oldest son. But he's given the dumbest lines, so hard to fault him (and I don't want to say negative things about a child).
All that said. I do like most of the episodes.
The Lovebirds (2020)
Love the leads, but this had me cringing for the wrong reasons
Both the leads are fantastic actors, and did a great job throughout. Hope to see them in more.
The movie actually started to lose me in the first moments though, because she is just so out of his league. Maybe a romance could start between them if the worked together and she fell for his goofy charm, but not a "I saw him across the room..." as they describe.
It certainly had its moments, but too many of the jokes fell flat. Also, the choices made were not those of these supposedly intelligent individuals. And to me, that just became too frustrating.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Couldn't stand the bad 70's synth soundtrack
This might have been a good movie. It was going pretty good so far, but I had to stop watching at about 40 minutes in. The 70's synth soundtrack that was constant was like fingernails on chalkboard for me.
I tried, I really tried to muscle through it, but it was killing my nerves.
Medical Police (2020)
They're trying for an Airplane feel... They missed
It has the feel like they are going for a Leslie Nielsen movie, vibe... They are way off the mark.
Horrible dialogue, delivery, and story. Just horrible all around. Which I really hate to say about anything that has Henry Winkler in it.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Did Stalone write the dialogue? It was horrible
Spoilers:
Why, when she was found with all those needle marks, would he not immediately take her to a hospital???
The whole thing was just horrible, but that, above all else, was the most remarkably "what the..." moment of the whole movie for me
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Every moment was perfect, but didn't add up to anything
Amazing cinematography, top notch acting, music, sets, costume... Everything was top notch.
Every moment was perfect, they just didn't add up to anything entertaining
A Quiet Place (2018)
Few things really bothered me
Well told, and well acted. A bit slow moving, but doesn't seem to waste any time.
Couple things that really bothered me....
Spoilers!
Who lets a four yr old take the rear??? Seriously, when my kids were little, we always... always! walked with the kids in front. As does anyone and everyone. And that's just everyday life, never mind a world with scary monsters waiting for any sound.
Why the hell didn't they just live next to the waterfall???
Lastly, but least ridiculous. It bothered me that she figures out that it was the hearing aid, just minutes after dad sacrifices himself.
