Safe Room (2012)
Great short film
I saw Safe Room at the LA Underground Film festival. It was my favorite short.
I've watched so many shorts of all different budgets, some are entertaining some not so much. What works about Safe Room is that it has a great premise and story for a short, the acting is good and it's beautifully shot. I especially though Corryn Cummins gave a subtle but intense performance. This film keeps you on your toes the entire time. Most shorts tend to either not make much sense or they just seem to off-the-wall. This was a very accessible movie. From the very beginning it sets a great tone. The music and editing worked very well to create the suspense and drama as the film moved along. It's a little over ten minutes and it never slowed down for a second. I did notice a couple sound issues here and there with the dialogue near the end but I guess that is to be expected with lower budget films. I'd recommend Safe Room if you love this genre.
Safe Room is a great suspense-thriller!
The System (2009)
Loved it!
I saw THE SYSTEM at the Beverly Hills film festival. This film has a great concept. It's very gritty and suspenseful in a SEVEN kind of way. Great performances. I thought Marcos Zavitsanos did a great job directing. I recognize a few of the actors from TV and film like the guy who plays the psycho in the beginning and the thug, Jack Conley, he's in everything. I also really liked the way they used LA without shooting typical Los Angeles locations. That gets old. The lead actor was intense and subtle. I live in LA and attend many film festivals and unfortunately most of the movies I check out are very sub par. This was clearly an independent project but looked like a first-class production. The concept is a lot like the 70's film "The Star Chamber" as well as a bit of a "Dexter" feel - but I saw this before "Dexter" came out so who knows which came first. I wish more films were of this caliber.
