Malignant (I) (2021)

Uninspired

Warning: Spoilers
The storyline definitely had potential but was really let down by everything else. I found the whole thing quite dull and not scary. The acting wasn't great either. The "shocking revelation" that she was adopted with the best friends horrified reaction being hilarious (I'm adopted). And I thought when they first mention that she try a psychic her friend almost laughed? Often the scary sound effects didn't line up with the actual "scare" so another swing and a miss. Hard pass.

The Northman (2022)

Looks great but lacking depth

I was expecting big things from The Northman as the trailer looked epic. Found it kinda boring actually. The film was wonderfully shot and looked great. But it seemed to be missing a heart. I didn't really connect with any of the characters and ended up feeling quite disappointed with the whole thing. Better off watching Vikings or The Last Kingdom in my opinion.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Sure there are faults here and there, but overall it was a different sci-fi/horror thats well worth your time. I had no idea where it was headed which made it way more engaging. If you're into sci-fi horror you'll find this is for you. Fans of The Thing etc.

Could've been . .

I'm not really sure what to say. Interesting concept, it's all just very slow and not much happens. Definitely could've been great but a swing and a miss.

Don't waste your time

Easily the worst movie I've seen in a long time. This is not a Guy Ritchie film. If you loved Lock Stock and Snatch you won't like this. There are zero similarities. What you do get is a hodge podge heist/revenge action movie that is so boring we almost walked out.

The opening scene was pretty much lifted straight from Heat but from the security guards side. It even looked like the same bridge. One dimensional stereotyped characters who are completely unrelatable and unbelievable. Very corny dialogue and a lot of wasted talent from the actors available. Apart from Scott Eastwood who looks like he's never held a weapon before and is completely lost. Easily Guy Ritchies worst film.

Rubbish film.

Too long, too slow. Quite uninteresting. An absolute ton of plot holes. DC destroy another movie. Did Gal Gadot forget how to act? Don't waste your time.

Us (II) (2019)

Close . . well not really, and definitely no cigar

Warning: Spoilers
Wow what a disappointing film. I spent most of the time sitting there bored. Apart from the first 20minutes I wasn't scared at all. And no I'm not tough talking, I usually scare easily! There are plenty of movies I won't watch. Ok so it's classed as Horror/Thriller but I laughed way more than I was scared. I mean as soon as there was a debate over kill count how could you not laugh? I certainly wasn't the only one in the cinema laughing. The voices of the Us people weren't scary they just made me laugh. So corny it was funny.

I wanted to walk out by the half way point, but decided I needed to see the end and maybe get some answers. Although some broad brush questions were answered, the whole thing is so out there and so so many plot holes. I won't go into them as many already have and said it better than I can.

If you haven't seen Us at the movies yet don't bother. Wait for streaming service's/tv etc. It's well acted and nicely shot. There was potential to be a pretty great movie in there but Us well and truly missed the mark. It's certainly no Get Out.
