Laxmii (2020)
It is NOT anti hindu
The movie is not anti hindu. The allegations are incorrect and unfounded.
But the problem lies in the direction. The director is perplexed as to which approach he wishes to take. Every 10 seconds the movie changes its tone. One second it is trying to be horror or thriller, the next second it tries to be funny. This doesn't work. The comedy is cringe and unfunny. The music is incongruous with the scene going on.
The story is not bad. The message is also good. Any other director could have done justice to the script. Also, what's up with the songs? Absolutely unnecessary and distracting.
A serious, tense and thrilling take to this film could have been 10 times better.
The only two highlights of this film are Akshay Kumar's acting when he acts as a transgender and Sharad Kelkar.
The Big Short (2015)
Great
Even though I did not understand 50% of the financial things explained in the film, I still enjoyed it.
The film tries a lot to explain what is going on by some entertaining bits. Even after all that, it is still difficult to understand.
What I loved about the film was the performances of all the actors, especially Steve Carell and Christian Bale. They are just amazing. Ryan Reynolds does a great job as well.
Overall, it is a good watch. I would have given 10/10 if I had understood the film more.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Worst.
This is one of the worst things... Sorry, the worst thing I have seen in my life. Worst of tv, movies, books comics! Wasted my whole sunday on this.
Just Mercy (2019)
Absolutely brilliant
One of the best movies I have ever seen. Period.
Every scene is immensely powerful and moving. It does not feel that any scene in the film was inconsequential. A stellar performance by every actor. Delivers a powerful message of equality and justice.
I have no idea why this title is rated at only 7.6.
Klaus (2019)
Decent
This is a story of an alternate version of the origins of Santa Clause and his gifts. The best part of this movie is its visuals. I don't know how they did it, but they are just breathtaking, even better than some of the Pixar movies.
Even though the screen time is around 80 minutes, it still feels a drag sometimes. The dialogues were not that catchy, funny or interesting for me to be engaged thoroughly in the film.
The film reaches its zenith with its emotional points and its visuals. Overall a decent watch.
The Old Guard (2020)
Enjoyable
It appears from the trailers that this movie is an outright action flick. But it is not so. The main protagonist of the film and the others in the 'army' of immortals have lived for hundreds of years. They have seen plenty, they have known a lot. The film also explores this part, which is enjoyable.
It also deals with the moral grey area between individual freedom and the greater good of humanity. It deals with subjects like forced human experimentation, the immorality of humans, etc.
About the plot, it is decent and enjoyable. It is not akin to Nolan's thrillers.
The action sequences are well shot and reasonably enjoyable.
Music is incongruous with the film. It does not fit with the scenes. It could have been better.
I will wait eagerly for the sequel.
Cloverfield (2008)
The worst movie I have ever seen.
Pathetic camera work. (It was deliberate) It will surely give you a migraine even if you do not have the disease.
Poor dialogues. Nothing of interest in what the characters say. The main character who holds the camera is cringe. Extremely irritating. I don't know whether he was supposed to be funny or crazy. He is only interested in "documenting" everything.
Wafer-thin plot. No palpable tension.
The movie is less than 70 minutes, but it feels like 3 hours.
Avoid it at all costs.
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Enjoyable sequel
Jumanji is a delectable sequel. In its 1 hour 55 minute runtime, it never runs of out steam. There are some laugh out loud moments in the movie, but in general, the movie is amusing and will definitely bring a smile to your face.
All the actors have done a incredible job in the movie, especially in the body shifting scenes. The players in the game have actually done a pretty good job at embodying the teenagers and the elders. This must have required a great deal of skill. Kevin Hart and Jack Black steal the show in this regard.
The special effects in the movie are also pretty decent as well. The ostrich chase scene is the example of that.
The story is also coherent. It is simple and ties all parts of the story. It is not like Nolan's movies and it should not even be. The story is befitting to the movie.
Overall, it can be watched as a wholesome family entertainer.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
Brilliant
The best sitcom that I have ever seen. Very underrated.
Most people complain that the show lost its course after season 7. It lost its nerd factor. But I think as in normal life, people change over years, so did the characters of the show. The characters matured, their relationships changed. You cannot expect that Howard to be a horny and crass person all his life. After marriage obviously he would change. Same with all the characters. You cannot expect Leonard still trying to woo Penny and Penny still dating other losers. They all had to change and mature.
The only character arc they did not give justice to was Raj. I would have liked to see him get settled over the final season. They should have married him to Ruchi. It would have been a good end.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Disappointed.
Let me first tell you that I am a big fan of the marvel movie franchise. Never read any comic book. I generally enjoy superhero movies.
This review would be disliked but I have to say this, this was the worst marvel movie after iron Man 2 for me. Some movies have loopholes in their script but this movie has some script in the loopholes.
I guess this movie is getting such high reviews(near fight club and Lord of the rings) as people are emotional about the characters and they would think with their heart and not their brain. But if you actually think about the movie, that is , take your brain with you to the theatre, you would start observing the huge loopholes.
And I do want to clear it out that I am not a person who is very picky about the story. I accept some flaws in a movie. But in this movie there are so many flaws that it becomes hardly acceptable.
It was so bad that it killed all my interest in future superhero movies.
Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)
Spectacular achievement!
One of the best patriotic movies ever made. The perspicuity by which the director presented the military tactics is an achievement in itself. The movie excels in capturing the emotions in the right quantity so not to make it mawkish.
The only drawback of the film that I felt was the excessive and deliberate movement of the camera during fist fights to make it more effective and dramatic. The camera shaking was too much.
Aquaman (2018)
Fantastic!
The best dceu movie yet !
Jason Momoa was born to play this role.
Great action scenes and visual effects !
Thugs of Hindostan (2018)
Not as bad as the reviews say!
I generally don't write reviews. But I will write for this one. TOH is not half as bad as what the reviews say. Acting is really good. The general story is good as well. It could have been much better if some loopholes could have been covered. I cannot go in the details as it would result in revealing of some spoilers .
Overall an entertaining movie. The actions scenes could have been more realistic. The vfx was good for Bollywood standards, I don't know why people are complaining about it.
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
One of the worst movies I have ever watched.
I usually don't write reviews. But for this one, I had to write. It makes no sense at all.Two people shooting at each other in the train station and no body even bats an eye? There is so much fighting on the street but there is no police? This movie even questions whether John Wick is even a human? Hit by a car, stabbed, shot, punched etc but nothing seems to be happening to him.
These are only some of nonsensical things of the movie. There are many more of these things. Do not watch this one.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
The best from Marvel !
This is the best Marvel movie yet, undoubtedly. It clearly surpasses The Avengers, Age of Ulton , all the Iron man movies , ant man , hulk , Winter soldier etc. Lets start with the story. The story is really well made. All the action in the movie seems to have a purpose , it does not look superfluous. Captain America and Iron man have a proper reason to fight. They are not fighting for some stupid logic and reason , unlike in Batman and superman. In BVS , Batman has flawed notions regarding superman and has no proper logic. The fight seems a waste. But this does not happen here. Secondly, kudos to the dialogue writers. All the dialogues are well written. Comic relief is provided in almost all the scenes. Action is flawless and is in huge quantities. In the entire movie i was wondering what the end would be. It does not disappoint. The end is great. There are so many superheros in the movie but it does not feel that a particular superhero has received less time. Its all perfectly made. No other superhero movies hold a candle to this one(except Nolan's batman trilogy).
Fast & Furious 7 (2015)
One of the worst movie I have ever watched!
I am not a great fan of fast and furious series.I have actually watched only 2 movies of the series, and I find it completely non- sense. The movie has so,so,so many flaws! Either the director deliberately ignored them, or he is a complete idiot( or he thinks that the audience has no common sense at all) I will leave the technical mistakes for the time being. Focusing on the loopholes of the story.
1) Wherever you go Deckard Shaw follows,Why need God's eye?
2)Dominic and Co. enter the secured terrorist area by jumping from a plane by using their cars(okay I will broaden my mind and assume that this is even possible),but then, an idea crops in your mind,How did Deckard shaw get in there?
3) A drone is called in to kill some random people! This is unbearable!! IF you want to kill some random people on American soil, you do not use a drone! You do it by sending an assassin .Use a sniper rifle and kill them all! Kill them in their sleep! Why use a goddamn drone? And first of all you cannot enter a drone inside USA without the drone being destroyed by the US patrols.
4)There are many such flaws. But these 3 are enough to make the movie dumb.
And one more thing, the genre of the movie should be changed,it should be science fiction.Yes! science fiction, Dominic and his crew are invincible, whatever they do,not a single scratch on them.
The movie is downright stupid and dumb. And one more thing! they are cashing on Paul walkers death! They have announced fast 8 .Its horrible so horrible .
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Below expectations, but still good.
I was expecting a lot. The trailers were really exciting and I indeed did enjoy The Avengers part 1 .
Well the clear difference why this movie cannot be compared with movies like The dark knight Trilogy,it lacks proper story and content. And last but not the least , a good villain.IN all the movies of Batman, the villain is strong and cunning, which makes the movie exciting and gives additional respect to the Protagonist of the movie. But this movie lacks it all.IN 'The Avenger' Loki was a complete idiot, making pun of himself.I expected Ultron to be stronger and more serious. But what is he like? Completely opposite of what is shown in the trailer. He cracks jokes and is over confident of himself. And above all, he is weak. Iron man alone defeats him, Captain America beats him black and blue! This was not expected at all. But this the movie does not fail to deliver, the action sequences and entertaining and equally enjoyable; especially Hulk vs HulkBuster. The 3D effects are indeed special. But again, the movie entirely relies on special effects, no proper content. The movie had potential to be great, just by making Ultron stronger, fortifying the army of Ultron( the robots were very weak and feeble) and making the movie a bit darker. On the concluding note, Its a highly entertaining popcorn flick!
