Better than I expected
10 March 2019
I can now say I have seen EVERY Doris Day movie she ever made. I was in no rush to see THE BALLAD OF JOSIE because of the generally bad reviews. (And the snide Women's Lib jabs here are very unfair and wrong-headed!) So on a VERY rainy evening when it appeared on cable, I thought I'd give it a go.

It started off slow with a seemingly endless eulogy of Doris's no-good husband by Andy Devine, but it took off after that.

Certainly not one of her better films, but absolutely not her worst (CAPRICE and STARLIFT are tied for that "honor"). but she is really very good -- as usual. I rooted for her/Josie every step of the way.

I recommend it -- especially since the tide has changed in the past 50+ years and viewers will see some fresh topicality in it in 2019.

"The Room" is now closer to "Gone with the Wind"

I couldn't believe the reviews so I went to YouTube and watched this film -- or as much as I could stomach. Wow, what a waste of $500! The acting..... I don't have another word for it... was amateur hour, the story was LUDICROUS, the Special Effects were HILARIOUSLY BAD DIME STORE QUALITY, and the dialogue atrocious.

Captain to daughter: "Karen, are the controls working?" (No, Captain, the whole movie is not working.)

Nerdy guy to Captain: "Dr. Taylor, this is madness!" (Yes, it is!!)

Girl at Tsunami Center, Honolulu: "May God have mercy on us all!" (Honey, may God have mercy on the Producers, Director, Writers, Cast and Crew.)

I've seen "The Room" AND "The Disaster Artist," but now I have new respect for what used to be called the "worst film ever made."

SPY is Hilarious!

This is one of the funniest/silliest yet cleverest spoofs on all things James Bond.

Some of the gags strained credulity but overall just about everything works: From the opening featuring action and danger to the theme song to the gadgets and far-flung locations -- everything was spot-on.

All the actors delivered with tongue firmly in cheek. And Jude Law was surprisingly James Bondish.

True, as someone said, the language is pretty salty and a few might find it offensive. But there's a solution for that. Don't go to the movies.

Problem solved.

You're welcome.
